yeah, well I'm outta here til I can watch ep 2 tomorrow morning, US time.

I rewatched Deep Breath again the other night. It works for me. If the rest of the season is around this level of quality (which will be hard) I will be a happy fan.

Just gonna say I like how they've returned to static title cards for the end credits. I thought the crawl looked messy with the vortex backgrounds.

Still hate this version of the theme tune. Delaware MkII.

This episode has benefited from being in colour way more than Deep Breath. Some wonderful lighting in this. It's weird, the leaks are giving me a whole new appreciation on a different level.

The Daleks were totally incompetent in this episode. Going down the corridor they had everyone in their sights and didn't kill enough, then got done by one dalek.

Ruins the episode for me really.

They also removed a scene. The leak had an ending for Rusty.

Well the difference between this week and last was night and day. Much better episode this week, despite the ridiculous premise. Which really only makes the quality of the last episode all the more confusing.

I feel like I want to watch the beginnings of Dr Who episodes and the ends, but not so much the middle bits.

I think I would have loved this episode if I just read a summary of it. There were lots of things that happened in it that were good, exciting things, but I honestly lost interest in the episode halfway through. The key plot points were good - but everything around them was just a bit meh, lots of running through tubes or slow motion low budget shoot-bang sections.

This sounds much more negative than I mean it to be as there were bits that I thought were great. The only thing I didn't really like was what felt like slightly hamfisted THIS IS IMPORTANT writing with the whole thing about soldiers.

Pretty decent episode and the Doctor made some pretty grim decisions in this.
hmm Robin Hood for the next episode looks interesting.

Strange they cut Rusty's end from the broadcast version. In the leak he actually uses
the same self destruct mechanism the Dalek in 'Dalek' does, where the balls fly off him, encircle him and then explode.

I enjoyed that episode. Starting to warm more to Peter Capaldi, but he still lacks the awesomeness that made Matt Smith my favourite Doctor.

That said
"He's the top layer, if you want to say a few words"
was just a dark and hilarious line. Beautifully executed.

I really enjoyed that. Wasted fine actors like Ashton and Smiley, but Capaldi was brilliant. I like his muted, calmer, darker take. It's notably different to the three that have come before so far.

You thankfully can't compare Capaldi to any previous Doctors; he's fresh

The miniaturised-inside-a-machine-with-robot-antibodies thing was a bit of a rehash of the Teselecta though.
Intrigued where the whole 'afterlife' thing is going.

Interesting episode. The question of whether this Doctor is good or bad makes the series (so far) feel more cohesive, but maybe we'll get a simpler adventure next week.
