Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Anyone have any links to good trailer reactions to Shulk? And by that I mean, reactions that seem genuine and not staged after the fact for attention?

On another note:

If Sakurai can't get Ice Climbers or Chorus Men to work, and if Snake isn't an option, I'd be happy with the following DLC characters, enough to fill out the Character Select Screen:

- Lucas
- Wolf
- Squirtle
- Ivysaur
- Mewtwo

Yeah, Pokémon-heavy, but Pokémon had six reps in Brawl, and given how huge the series continues to be, I don't think eight would be inappropriate here.

I've watched several where the person watching kept calling his sword the "Monando" and then I stopped.

I just finished another playthrough of Uprising, and Dark Pit is more prominent than I remembered. He's a boss in one of the early chapters, he's a mid-boss in another, he shows up to assist you a few times, you play as him towards the end of the game, and he flies around with Pit during the end credits. He's also the Dark Team's playable angel in Light Versus Dark mode. I'm perfectly okay with him being a separate character in Smash Bros.
Isn't Kid Icarus Uprising amazing? I'm thinking about starting my umpteenth playthrough myself.

And yeah, I'm also cool with Dark Pit being his own character. I really liked him in Uprising. :-)

My predictions for Wii U retro levels

- Lylat Cruise
- Temple
- Pokemon Stadium 1
- Delfino Plaza
- Port Town
- Skyworld
- Halberd
- Norfair

It seems like a lot, but it's not really more than Brawl and it's a nice variety of favorites and odd ball choices. Maybe a little Brawl heavy, but the 3DS took most of the Melee levels from Brawl.

But as long as Temple is there, I'm happy.

warioware is actually the best smash bros stage and the only thing keeping it from being perfect is the invincibility effect

Yeap. Stage is too small to stall in FFA, has all kinds of platforms at juuust the right height to allow a lot of Up-Smashes to pierce through them, nice potential to show off offstage since it goes down to the blast zone....

Matches on WarioWare are short and vicious *-*

Yoshi stage seems unrealistic, been a while since a substantial new yoshi game came out.
When did we start ignoring the world of games older than five years old?

Also how does this logic apply to the F-Zero stage which is apparently new?

To be honest, I'm surprised they didn't bring back Luigi's Mansion for 3DS.
I Mean, Dark Moon was a huge seller so theoretically, it made sense.
Wonder if they'll bring it back for Wii U

Skyworld would feel kind of bland and dated in a post-Uprising world. But the one I really don't expect is Lylat Cruise. I suspect there'll be just one Star Fox stage in the WiiU version, and it'll be the new stage atop the Great Fox. I'm thinking the WiiU version will be the inverse of the 3DS version when it comes to stages for "smaller" franchises, I.E. if it got a new stage in the 3DS version, it'll get a retro stage in the WiiU version, and vice-versa.

So for example, I could see Port Town being the F-Zero stage for WiiU since the 3DS version is getting an all-new F-Zero stage. And I could see Onett returning as the EarthBound stage for WiiU since the 3DS version is getting the all-new Magicant.

Conversely, since the 3DS version didn't get a new Donkey Kong or Yoshi stage, the WiiU version probably will. But both versions will have new stages for the huge franchises like Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, etc.

I'm hoping for Pirate Ship on Wii U with WWHD effects.

Temple is basically required to be in a Smash Bros game by law, so Pirate Ship will sadly have to sit this one out.

I'm not convinced the WiiU will have the same issues with stage selection as the 3DS does. I think they'll add way more retro levels and not have those levels be the main home stage of the character.

In general, the stage list on the 3DS sucks because the 10 returning stages are all from Brawl. Jungle Japes, Corneria, and Brinstar all make me very frustrated at their third appearance in a Smash Bros. game as well as this being their second time reappearing as past stages. It just screams that the reality is, no matter how many times Sakurai says things were started from scratch, they did start from Brawl (either that or these stages were significantly easier to port to Smash 4 because they're more recent than a stage like Fountain of Dreams).

Then, on top of that, they choose probably the worst selection of Brawl stages to bring back (in my opinion). Warioware Inc., Distant Planet, Mushroomy Kingdom, Pictochat (we assume it's the Brawl one -- could be a Pictochat II), Flat Zone II, Yoshi's Island (okay this one isn't bad, it's okay, but that's only because it's the only Brawl stage on the 3DS that has no hazards or terrible gimmicks) and Green Hill Zone.

They couldn't have possibly chosen a worse selection -- other than maybe bringing back 75m (the stage I'm sure no one played after the first time looking at it).

Now you just watch, the rest of Brawl's Melee past stages will be in the Wii U version. We'll get Big Blue, Green Greens, Rainbow Cruise, Hyrule Temple, Pokemon Stadium, Onett, and Yoshi's Island. We won't get FoD, we won't get Great Bay, we won't get Kongo Jungle (the Melee one), we won't get Yoshi's Story (the other Yoshi stage in Melee), we won't get Poke Floats (I MEAN COME ON, THROW US A BONE AND GIVE US THIS STAGE), we won't get Mute City, and we definitely won't get any of the 64 stages.

It's just so incredibly frustrating that they would choose the same stages to bring back again and they're not even fan favorites. The only stage that you can say is a fan favorite out of the lot of the past stages in the 3DS version is Corneria and even that has its negatives (it's too small because the characters have gotten bigger and/or the camera is zoomed out too far to give the impression it's a smaller stage).

Just give us the good stages Sakurai, please! Halberd gives a good sign of that but that's a Brawl stage. If he reveals one of the past stages in the Wii U version to be Green Greens or Big Blue, it's pretty much a guarantee they are taking the easy way out and just reusing Brawl past stages because of how pressed for time they are -- it's just really, really sad.

There is such potential in bringing back past stages, whyyyyyyyy waste it on stages that almost nobody likes! It's just so frustrating to watch something that was awesome in Melee turn so sour two sequels later (as in, they actually brought three good N64 stages to Melee and ever since then they've somehow chosen past stages no one really likes).

Ughhhh. I needed to vent, sorry.

Yeah. Not really inspired by any of the stages on show so far.

I've watched several where the person watching kept calling his sword the "Monando" and then I stopped.

B-but...it had voice acting...and the word Monado was said in literally every battle....and the game is 100 hours long....and if you're deaf there were subtitles....

I wouldn't say it's the worst selection of Brawl stages. I mean, if they're not bringing back New Pork City then they're doing something right. Also, I quite like Distant Planet and Green Hill Zone. Also there were plenty of good Smash 64 stages that weren't in Melee, like Hyrule Castle and Saffron City. Honestly I quite like all of the Smash 64 stages aside from Planet Zebes (though I didn't care for Peach's Castle either but I didn't dislike it).

I understand your point overall though

Since we know the stages in the 3DS version, what past stages would everyone like to see in the Wii U version? Personally I'd like to see these:

64:
Saffron City

Melee:
Brinstar Depths
Flat Zone
Fountain of Dreams
Fourside
Mushroom Kingdom II
Onett
Temple

Brawl:
Bridge of Eldin
Luigi's Mansion
Mario Circuit
Pirate Ship
Port Town Aero Dive

Not sure if this counts, but the 3DS version appears to have an all-new F-Zero stage based on the Super NES or GBA games. I'm super-excited to see it in action. Mode 7! <3

I'm glad it doesn't look to be another "fly along the track on a platform" stage, but I was hoping for a brand new look at a F-Zero location.

I'll try to be open minded about it, though. It could be neat!

I really hope F-Zero gets a new stage on Wii U :(

I just want ONE F-Zero stage that's not a direct asset rip! ONE!!
Mute City just to match Mario Kart 8's DLC that will release almost at the same time :D

I'm more surprised we didn't get a Dark Moon stage in the 3DS version.

This is true as well.
I mean, WTF? They have tons of new games to work with and yet they're doing the bare minimum.

When did we start ignoring the world of games older than five years old?

Plenty of untapped material regarding handheld F-Zero games.

I really don't think we're getting a new F-Zero stage on Wii U though.

Not having any 64 stages at all is kind of sad too. Even if it was just one, and looked totally out of place, it would still be cool. You obviously couldn't use it as the primary stage for a character though, since it would look so out of place.

Kongo Jungle 64 would be a pretty easy port over. It doesn't really have any major quirks or stage hazards that would need to be ported, and the overall darkness of the level would mask some of the bad textures.

Isn't Kid Icarus Uprising amazing? I'm thinking about starting my umpteenth playthrough myself.
It's one of the few games I've beaten several times. I usually get bored or don't want to diminish the experience of playing through a game for the first time, but something about Uprising is different.

I mean, if I could pick any place to set an F-Zero stage, it'd be Casino Palace from GX. That being said, I love the aesthetic of the SNES/GBA games (and Mode 7 in general), so I think this will be a great throwback stage. :-)

I like those choices. The Wii U needs more tourney legal stages even though it already has more than the 3DS version.

Since when is Distant planet, Green hill zone and Flat zone II worse then New pork city, 75m and Rumble falls?

Plenty of untapped material regarding handheld F-Zero games.

I really don't think we're getting a new F-Zero stage on Wii U though.
So why can't they tap into the older untapped Yoshi games? I mean there's one game (in NA) literally called Yoshi.

I hope we get a big Wii U information dump after 3DS version releases. Exclusive modes (single player ones especially), stages, connectivity between the two versions, Miiverse communities a la MK8...

I would LOVE for Delfino Plaza to be back in the WiiU version. That's my most-wanted Brawl stage. Although thankfully, either way I'll still have the Pilotwings stage, which scratches a similar itch with its sun-soaked charm. :-)

Speaking of Pilotwings, don't forget to include lots of music from PW64, Sakurai. :-)

I would be totally okay with that because Mario Kart's Mute City looks hot.

But the 3DS F-Zero course is SNES Mute City and I can only handle so much Mute City!

Let's hope they don't screw this up D;

btw, is it safe to assume we're getting a MK8 rep stage for Wii U the same way there's Rainbow Road from MK7 for 3DS?
