Delfino Plaza. I rest my case.

Seriously though I think it has the best balance between great straight stages and great gimmick stages. Fantastic inventiveness in stuff like Warioware and great designs with stuff like Yoshi's Island. Chuck in most of the best Melee stages and you got a winner.

Also I grew up in the Gamecube era so I have a bias towards games rep'd in Brawl.

Alright, I never count retro-stages when qualifying a roster's quality.
I think if you include Melee's stages Brawl's got a fairly solid lineup.

Without it ... my big issue is that Brawl's the first smash game where I didn't just
outright hate stages ... it was a whole bunch of them.

I think a lot of my complaints also come from a visual/cosmetic standpoint on some stages though, I think I'm more concerned about that than most.

I should also say I like Spear Pillar so maybe my opinion is too crazy.

Also Lylat Cruise is really underrated. The scenery is awesome.
Am I the only one content with the 3DS stages?

I really like Reset Bomb Forest, Spirit Train etc. etc.
Depends what you consider "content" to be :P
I'm ok with it.

I'm quite puzzled at the bolded, frankly. Why would Japanese people think Xenoblade is much more loved overseas? To me it seems more in line with Japanese tastes in general, and I don't remember it selling all that spectacularly in the west. Did it bomb horribly in Japan or something?

I think it's because it confirmed the leak. Quite a few people were talking about foreign reactions and mentioning the leaks together.

Brawl has some pretty good stages, but I think that Melee's stages were much better. A lot of Brawl's stages try to get too gimmicky for their own good or are just badly designed in general. Melee's stages were more consistent, I think.

The only thing that pops to mind is that they heard about Operation Rainfall and assume the good sentiments towards the game is more prevalent than it actually is.

Am I the only one that fails to understand Sakurai's idea of balance?

Link: He said that Down Air Spiking is almost too good and makes him overpowered. This might not be in final game.

Little Mac : Decided that he needs really poor recovery and little to no air ability to be ground only character.

Third party : Decided they all needed springs that shoot them high in air , nothing else works for them.

Newcomers beside Little Mac : Power+Good Recoveries+Counter+Shields and for characters like Shulk Modes.Rosalina is pretty strong character and people haven't even tapped into using Luma.

Seeing all these things make anything that some of veteran characters have look outdated.

Being more complicated isn't always going to mean you're actually better

I hate how they put the real stage as background decoration, and they make you fight on floating platforms. Better then call the stage "Large platforms of New Pork City"

In brawl the only Melee stages we played on were Corneria and Hyrule Castle (whatever that big one was).

We played a bunch of the brawl stages though. Aside from Pictochat, Elektroplankton, NSMB, and DK the one that moves. Might have been a few more but all in all we played and enjoyed a lot of the brawl stages.

I agree with you. The new movesets seems all vert unique compared to the old N64 ones. If Samus was a newcomer in Smash4 for example I wonder what kind of abilities should would get. I would be in for a redesign in some of the older characters. I would love if the zair would give Mario a bit more of air momentum, like in the New 2D series.

Brawl has a great selection of Melee stages, but a lot of original stages are really uninteresting. Most of gimmicky stages are disposable. I far prefer Rainbow Cruise or PokeFloats to the likes of 75m or Hanenbow. Flat Zone 2 is worse than Flat Zone. New Pork City is dreadful while Hyrule Temple was one of my Melee favs. Too many stages were simply platforms floating in front of the background, while I felt Melee's stages were more incorporated into the background (the aforementioned Temple, StarFox stages, Peach Castle, Big Blue).

And where is DreamLand 64 for that Gourmet Race goodness :(

Nailed my thoughts to a tee. Several times in Brawl I'm fighting on some bland platforms imposed atop a radical background...that amounts to little more than a wallpaper.

To better explain myself, folks, imagine if Delfino Plaza stayed on the main set of platforms all the time, while the game teased you with awesome locales you can only see from a distance, and not actually step on. That's what I felt with many Brawl stages.

Down-B: Counter

I hope people stop putting this fucking move in their character wishlists for Smash 6.

Yeah there's a lot of them. That said, I think Counter fits on Shulk better than any other character. Lucario really didn't need a counter though, and I feel like Palutena didn't either. Little mac I gets a bit, and it'd probably be hard to give him a moveset in the first place. Marth and Ike I get and they were there first. Lucina is just a marth clone so yeah

Some of the worst Smash stages ever, bar none. I'd nominate Spear Pillar, but that one is both awful and the greatest stages ever. But overall, Smash did have some really good stages as well. Luigi's Mansion, Delphino Isle, Halberd, and Lylat Cruise (really hoping it comes back in Smash U (minus the tilting, but I doubt it)) were some of my favorites.

I like Pokemon stadium 2 though

This post is bad because 75m is awesome

I dismiss scrolling stages not because of their concept but because every single scrolling stage they've introduced simply have not been good or fun. Every single one of them has had annoying flaws that keep them from being enjoyable. They have not proven to me they are capable of making scrolling stages actually fun. Plus, they have the same inherent problem walk-offs have: camp the blastzones and get lame KOs by throwing people towards the blastzone. I don't know how that's fun for anyone and having a "rule" for it to stop it from happening only proves that the stage is bad.

The only scrolling stage I've ever disliked was Icicle Mountain. Mimicking the source game's progression (to an extent) was clever but by itself I just never found it interesting aside from the kickass music.

I love scrolling stages because I find the combination of both fighting and running/jumping to be both really involved and interesting. You're always in constant danger of getting KO'd and with the number of stage hazards they usually emply, there's a plentiful amount of ways to play and get creative with.

The only real flaw I've encountered is how in the 1-2 Mushroomy Kingdom you can just get easy KOs by upthrowing at the top portion, and even then the hilarity of how characters get smacked around in the confined space at high percentages far outweights that particular negative for me. That stage is Smash Pinball at its finest (that, and I find the idea of the stage's time reflection aesthetic insanely clever and appealing to me, regardless of the whole "ARGH NINTENDO SHOULDNT BE GRITTY!!!" thing).

I guess it just depends on the crowd you hang out with (and personal taste, obviously)? I've never encountered anyone who just camps the blast zones; my friends and I just go with the flow.

I agree. Misses Dreamland for true perfection, but is
above Melee and SSB64 by far.

I'm a massive Kirby fan and yet I've always found that one to be the least interesting Kirby stage in the series....yet everyone else loves it. Go figure!

I think most of the new 3DS stages look great, if they play as well as they look I'm content.

I don't just stage selection by number but mostly by how many stages range from good to great.

Xenoblade sold significantly better in NA and Europe than it did in Japan

Agree with this. I do find it a shame to see some series ignored completely, but I still have enough to have fun with. Hopefully the Wii U one goes all out, though.

I'm actually forward to the Super Mario 3D Land stage because it seems to fix all the problems with scrolling stages (we'll see about the speed when it releases). The level is really varied in the environments and the stage itself seems to have a lot of space to move around in and fight properly.
