Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Monster Hunter is a skilled hunter who hunts large beast, dragons, wyverns and more through various methods, such as swordplay, bow gunning, bows, lances and more. This particular hunter is based off the generic Rathalos armour fighter and fights with a bow and great sword!

Neutral B: Bow Shot - Hunter will fire a Lv1 pierce shot ahead of him, and can charge it to a Lv2 and Lv3 spread shot, however powerful this becomes, the hunter is left open as he charges the attack.

Down B: Whetstone - Hunter will pull out a whetstone and begin to sharpen his blade. This will temporarily increase the amount of % inflicted when using the great sword against opponents, however like the game, the whetstone will take a short few seconds to sharpen the blade, similar to the Sun Salutation

Customisable variants of the Down B can involved planting a small barrel bomb which will explode in seconds or upon force, as well as planting a shock trap, pitfall trap, or dropping tainted food, which can appear as regular food and will damage any player who collects it. Also, another variant will be whetstone which will temporarily increase

Side B: Insect Rush - Hunter will release the insect bug which will flutter in a straight line and will hit the opponent a few times with good knock back. The longer it travels is the faster it will become.

Customisable variants of this will include the ability to move the bug in a given direction, weapons such as bomb casings (dung bombs etc.)

Up B: Ballistic Shot - Hunter will fire an upwards ballistic shot which will attach to a ledge and allow for recovery, in battle, the ballistic shot will latch onto an opponent and cause brief damage as well as slow their movements for a few seconds. (Probably a bad idea, but hey)

Customisable variant will be the farcaster which will allow the hunter to drop a bomb mid-air to return back to the stage as recovery, similar to the function in-game which sends hunters back to the camp

Neutral A: Swing - Hunter will swing forward with the great sword dealing normal damage.

Customisable variants of this involve switching out the GS for the smaller, lighter, but weaker longsword. All customisable A's will switch out in favour for this.

Side A: Side Swipe - As in the game, the Hunter will perform a side sweep with his GS, covering great range due to its sheer size.

Up A: Overhead Slash - The overhead slash will swing the GS from the front to the back of the Hunter overhead and will cover good distance.

Down A: Stab - Basic stab in the ground when the Hunter is in the air, or a forward poke on the ground when crouched.

Up Air: Sky Poke - Hunter will thrust the GS high into the air to hit opponents, but will take severe landing lag to recover his strength. (GS are heavy!)

Forward Smash - Hunter will draw back the GS, charge it and release. This has two charge cycles akin to the game.

Up Smash - Similar to his up A, but will also charge twice akin to the game

Down Smash - Hunter will sweep the ground around his radius with the GS, his weakest smash

Final Smash: Rathian strike! - Hunter will draw a Wyvern Egg which will call upon a Rathian which will douse the stage in three fireballs before it flies off.


This is my first ever move set I thought of, I could flesh it out, I know, but it's basic and gets the job done, really.
 
I think the fundamental problem with the casual/tournament divide is that many seem to forget just how vast a varied the casual side is. Honestly better terms would be serious vs non-serious since that at least avoids any association of skill behind the two halves.

Who is more "hardcore" when it comes to Smash - the one who can whittle off all the mechanics of the game but doesn't know a thing about Nintendo history or the one who can list off every little bit of trivia, secret and easter egg in the game? You honestly can't say, because what they look for in Smash is vastly different but they take that aspect very seriously. However since the latter is less likely to be a tournament player (because you're not going to win matches because you know that Captain Falcon's black suit is based off of a Japanese F-Zero advert) they'd be lumped in with the casual side and thus seen as less important.

I think that's the key here; Importancy. A lot of vocal tournament seem to give off an air of importancy, insisting that Sakurai should listen to them as they know more (in the worst case, more than Sakurai himself) than the "casuals" and thus their opinion and needs are more important. This of course comes off as extremely bigheaded and thus a very easy catalyst for arguments to begin. Literally, the 4chan vs SmashBoards arguments that have lasted years, started because one SmashBoards member would use terms like "scrub" and 4chan (or specifically /v/) used that to paint the whole Tournament scene.

Just enjoy the games your own way.

A cool idea! Maybe if Monster Hunter remains on Nintendo systems next generation, it'll be featured in smash 5.

To be fair, he does say some really dumb shit sometimes that reads like he's going out of his way to be ignorant of certain things.

Like the "If tournament popularity was the most important consideration, then I think we would create a Smash Bros. game ... with complicated controls." comment, I can't think of anything else he's said recently that's more bullshit than this, most people who want a more competitive smash don't want to lose the low entry barrier.



This type of stuff isn't ever going to stop anyway, when smash 4 releases it's going to get worse for a month or two when we find out the degree in which it's worse than Melee/Project M (unless it exceeds [everyone in the competitive community's] expectations, which is unlikely, given that it's Sakurai), then it will die down again for a bit but you're still going to hear a lot of "Melee is still the best smash" and "Smash 4 is the best".


Atleast you won't have to hear anyone bringing Brawl into the mix anymore because Brawl fans are generally more interested in the new content than the specific mechanics of their game, though I guess there's probably a few people that will lament the lack of tripping and planking.
 
I agree with BGBW in that core/casual names are pretty lame.

I mean, I don't play the game that seriously but I play Smash all the time! That's not exactly casual.
 
The best smash game will be the one with new character model / asset for all characters not only newcomers, playing with tweaked NGC model (or engine) is unfortunate in 2014. Maybe in smash 5 somewhere in 202X.
 
The EDGE article thread is disgusting. It's Sakurai's game. He can do whatever he wants as he sees fit, considering he is director. Those posters bashing him couldn't even design half the game Brawl was.

Nintendo's entire mantra is to make games anyone can pick up and play. Smash isn't excluded from this.

New Pork City > Hyrule Temple anyday.
Its the best big level in my eyes. Especially because of the chimera helping move players around.
Biggest issue is it can be a bit too zoomed out.
 
I thought the chimera did a good job. Everyone I played with never bothered with the area he was in. Just because of the possible slip up when avoiding him.

You can make a simple pick up and play game and not sacrifice depth. For example, the Gundam vs Gundam games (I'm using this since Namco-Bandai develops them and Smash 4 has developers from it) are way easier to pick up than Virtual On despite being in the same mech fighting genre, yet GvG doesn't sacrifice depth despite having an infinitely easier control scheme than VO.
 
New Pork City also suffers from being an awful course to play against the CPU. Having to beat Classic and All-Star mode against Ness and Lucas was never fun.

What an awful thread. I get that you want the game to play a certain way, but to be so intransigent that you trash the developer because the game isn't exactly the way you want it is just ridiculous.

You're right about the DS Lite - as far as I know, there was no practical reason to get a Lite if you already had a DS - but I'm not so sure about the N3DS. We already know it's capable of playing the new Xenoblade, which the current 3DSs aren't. If more games come out that require the N3DS, then I think it'll be more like the GBC than the Lite - a new console rather than a remodeled version of a current console.

I know nothing about Monster Hunter, but this has me interested. I like that characters in this game are getting buff moves.

Nearly anything would have been better. Tanetane Island, the sunflower field, Osohe Castle, the depths of the earth beneath New Pork City, Saturn Valley...

At least we'll get to use the stage's Omega version when it inevitably returns.
 
What I find funniest about the Sakurai thread are the people who go, "B-b-but my friends and Tamagotchi all loved Melee, no one has ever said that Melee is too fast/complicated!" ignoring the very people in the thread who admitted they did not like Melee's pacing.

I honestly don't understand why it's so hard to believe that Melee's speed and feeling might have been a bit of a turn off.

Just thinking in terms of "endgame places that the Ultimate Chimera appears in," but yeah. A tour of the Nowhere Islands on top of King P's limo would've worked just fine too.

Ech, all this just makes me disappointed that we'll probably never see anything from Mother 3 again in Smash, outside of trophies.
