PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

No. Vita will live on for at least a few more years regardless. Indies aren't going to stop supporting it anytime soon and the hardware isn't going to be discontinued for years either. It'll continue to be a niche system but the system and the games will continue.
I really wanna believe this. I mean. I have more than 35 retail games and over 150 vita games between PSM and psn( not counting PSP.psone)this is my favorite console so far. I love big consoles but since the game boy pocket I'm a real handheld lover. In my opinion most of the good games nowadays are on 3ds or PS vita. And I can see more content for this handhelds than any console can have. The only wish for me is to solve the gravity rush mistery on the vita with a secuel that hopefully will improve everything that was already awesome and different in the first game.

I hope you're right. I did buy the Vita because of Dragon's Crown and Soul Sacrifice, not because of Killzone or Uncharted, so the current games output actually satisfies me. I do know it won't save the Vita, though, but it is still alive.

My problem is how Sony actively trying to sideline the Vita as much as possible from all of their future, like they hope the thing didn't exist. I'm fine with it living the life without glory, but it need to be alive first.

We will see soon.

Want to say thank you to Azula :D. Even though I didn't win the raffle, it was really nice of you to even have it. Congrats to all the winners :D. Hope you find some great stuff on PSN when the store up dates in a day or so (.....maybe you will get Mega Man X4? I know that game is awesome :D).

As for the Sony Event thing in JP tonight....I have very, very low expectations :l. I mean, I'm still excited about it :D; by this point JP should have something for the PS4 and I'm sure many 3rd parties will have lots of cross-platform PS3/PS4/Vita stuff to show off (not to mention a exclusive or two for Vita; PS: Nova for example).

But...after being burned with there Vita 'support' twice with E3 and Gamescom, I expect nothing at all from both PS4 and Vita at this show.

Would it be nice to see more news on Persona 5? Seeing Atlus announcing a Persona 3 Remaster for Vita? Seeing Sony doing SOMETHING with the Vita? Them showing off that long rumored Studio Japan JRPG? ....Anything on FFXV and/or KH3? Hell yeah it would :D. But.....will any of that happen? I don't think so :(. So I will expect nothing and if cool stuff does happen, that will be nice :).

I don't expect there to be a successor to Vita. But I also think the Vita will ride out most of the PS4's lifespan. Well, at the very least it will be around for the next 3 years. I can understand games becoming less frequent, which sucks. But despite all that, the Vita is still my most played platform. I guess it's because I fall into the niche crowd, and love the kind of titles it has. And I'm okay with it being a Japan import platform (especially localized content).

I don't know. If you think the PSP is alive because it's getting one to three games per year, I think the Vita can last another three years, but otherwise, IMO, last year should be the last significant year.

Are you seriously saying Vita is only going to get a tiny amount of games like that each year from now on? Maybe if you only look at retail games. The indie support will keep the Vita more than alive for several years at least.

I can already mention indie games that are skipping the Vita for a PS4-only release, I wouldn't be surprised if indie support drop not a long time after retail games.

I have to agree; after Sony's ....'support' for the Vita, I find it hard to believe they will make another handheld. I honeslty think they made the Vita well before they said "Guys, guys.....why are we making another handheld? I mean, we lost to both iOS and DS, so why are we even trying? Lets just ride this out one year and see where this goes. If it does well, we will support it and if it doesn't do well, we will do the beare minium to keep the people who bought them happy."

I say the latter happened and that is what is going on on today; Sony funding Collection and PSN ports to fill out first party stuff until all the intenrally developed Vita-only 1st party games are out. After Freedom Wars and Oshoka come out....that is it from Sony on 'big' Vita games from them :(.

Honestly, it really doesn't bother me that the Vita is 'dead' in both the publics and Sony's eye. I have 150+ games for the thing, get games for it every month thanks to sales and PS+ and have a backlog way to huge for the device XD!

The indie support, the JP 3rd party support, PSP/PS1 BC (limited but still nice) and the support Sony did bring to it (Tearaway, Killzone, Soul Sacrifice and Gravity Rush are great games :D) all make it an awesome system in my eyes :').

If they drop support this year....I will still have tons of games to play though, so I'm happy with the Vita now.

I'm pissed they aren't doing much with the system even though it is painfully easy to do so (just show off your Indie and JP 3rd party line up for crying out loud X() but still, we should be used to that by now.

This is a general PSN question. Do PS4 games you buy digitally have any sort of online DRM? I know disc games don't, but I'm considering getting Diablo and/or Destiny off the PSN store but I don't want any sort of 'always online' DRM

The indie wave I don't see ending on Vita anytime soon. Firstly, it is easy for them to port PS4 indies to Vita (as both are easy to work with); note how many future indie games are PS4/Vita but no PS3? Secondly, they see how the Vita versions of the games sell, so they must know there is an audience for that. Lastly, many of them love the Vita too (as that is one of the reasons some developers make Vita versions of Indie games).

The New 3DS will propel the Vita into its golden era. Japan will figure out multiplatform development. The people of the land will notice that no Nintendo handheld ever will surpass the Vita in specs and as a platform and will flock to their true destiny, like flocks.

I love how they say "Vita will get games trough PSNow and PS4"

And i sit here and think : "Yeah i like to replay games 10 times on every fucking console ever made. Or wanna experience that glorious HD graphics that the new PS4 can on an Handheld."

Jesus... Sony gets arrogant as fuck lately.

It's not arrogance, it's reality. The Vita is a dead platform for AAA. How is it arrogance to realize that the Vita market is not big enough to support a full-fledged AAA release?

Well, the important thing to take note of is that this is response to SONY game support, not third parties. We still have JP developers making games on Vita (and for a long while too; Vita is doing okay in JP :D) and the indie games are getting bigger and bigger, so they easily fill the void Sony is leaving wide open....to me at least :l.

I feel bad to people who got a Vita expecting Call of Duty, AC, and other big games coming every year.....they really got cheated X(. Not only are they getting 'nothing' that appeals to them but when they DID get those games, the former was a shitty game with almost no content while the latter was an only okay but badly running mess :(.

.....Either way, I'm just glad the Vita is still getting some kind of support.

so i have to play indies now since that's the only thing left....i totally saw this coming when i bought this at launch
So? Be grateful that there are so many good games coming. Don't play them because they're what's left. Play them because they're good. When PSP had so much third party support I still don't think it had a lineup of games that matches what Vita has with all the great indie titles.

It is hard to see it as arrogance. More like admitting defeat.

The reality is that the market for vita is tiny.

While I never owned a PSP, I have to agree with you :D. Most of the PSP third party support was either JRPG's/Monster Hunter-esc games or ports from Western games (Madden and the like).

With the indie support on Vita, we got lots of verity from the indie scene :D. Sure a good number of them are 2D but they fill all kinds of game types.

Guacamelee is a Metroidvanna with fun combat, Fez is a 2D platformer with tons of exploration, Steamworld Dig is a 2D game but largely focused on reaching to the bottom of the games world, TxK is modern Tempests, Spunky and Rouge Legacy fill that Rouge-like itch, Hotline Miami fills the arcade blood lust, ect.

They fill many, many game types, so that plus the large back catalog of the PSP and PS1 libraries really give the Vita all kinds of games :').

Edit: I don't mean the PSP doesn't have a verity of game types (as it did have many) but I think the indie verity fills that verity stronger I think :D.

Mine was janky too until I found out that I had it in WiFi battery savings mode. Switching that off definitely improved things.

Oh shit, I had mine in power save mode!

Wow... they word it so strangely.. 'Use Wi-Fi in Power Save Mode', I thought that meant that if my Vita is 'sleeping', it can receive incoming messages/friend requests and other updates.

Then they shouldn't have released the handheld. To become viable, someone has to invest. Sony is not investing...

So to everyone who say Sony isnt arrogant and the Vita is dead.

The vita is dead because they didnt even tried from the start. Look at Assassins Creed and CoD. Look at how shitty those are.

Look at our Vita games being ported to PS4.

Look at #Thisis4theplayers is now a symbol for ports, remastered, delayed games.

Of course they are not arrogant. How can they? With that millions of $ they got from promises.

Not as long as the account you buy them on is primary.

Not that I know of, on the otherhand Destiny is always-online either way, dunno about Diablo.

That's the part that sucks. I don't think anyone in good conscious could blame Sony for dropping Vita if they gave it their all and sales were still horrendous. Many people feel short changed because Sony hasn't done that. It's become clear that after 2012 they gave up on it internally.

Just think about this: Vita will become the first PlayStation platform without an entry from SCE's most successful IP. That would be like Nintendo releasing a platform without Mario or Microsoft releasing an Xbox without Halo.

Almost all of my PS4 has been indies. Child of Light is probably my favorite PS4 game atm. Rogue Legacy,Transistor, Fez, TowerFall, ect. I don't have a gaming PC though, if you do then the indies lose their appeal.

Not as long as the account you buy them on is primary.

Not that I know of, on the otherhand Destiny is always-online either way, dunno about Diablo.

Ah there's no online only DRM by default but it can be applies by publishers, I see. Thanks!
