Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Ah, so THAT's why it's $100 on amazon. I was looking at the roster today and looking at games I missed out on. I have one for every character except Xenoblade (waiting for 3DS), WiiFit (almost bought U until I realized it was crazy expensive), and I guess a recent Pacman game. Uprising and Awakening were both excellent picks, so I was thinking of maybe trying one of the Kirby's I missed.

You need to play some Kirby games. Canvas Curse. Mass Attack. Triple Deluxe. All are superb!

Honest question:

I see a lot of people REALLY lamenting the possible loss of the Ice Climbers (more than Wolf and even Lucas). While I agree with that and are also lamenting their loss should that actually happen, how many of you are sad about it because you actually main them and not sad just because it doesn't "feel" like Smash without them, even if you never play them? Just curious.

For me, I fully admit to not playing them all THAT often; I'm decent with them in Brawl, but they're definitely not anywhere close to my main or secondaries, and they're probably a distant third-stringer for me. As for Melee, I wasn't very good with them at all there. So for me, it's more about the overall feeling that it just doesn't feel like a proper Smash without them, after having had them in Melee and Brawl.

What say you all?

Wolf I'm fairly neutral on, but I mained theIce-Climbers when I first got Brawl and now that I'm playing it some more in the lead up to Smash, I'm playing with them some again and I'm actually a little sad, as dumb as it is, to know I probably won't get to fight with them in HD.

SmashGAF come the Japanese release.

I can't say I even remember the last time I've played Ice Climbers. They're a Smash staple and it'll be weird seeing them gone.

Now if you want to see me sad over a lost main, let me tell you about a certain Space-faring lupine...

I actually enjoyed playing as them over the years since melee introduced them. I even had them as my main pick when I was a kid whether it would be against family or friends. Being that this franchise is 15 years old now and Ice climbers have been with us since '01, it seems odd to take out such a pair.

I can understand the circumstances with the 3DS limitations however, but the one main reason that irks me about the cuts is the decision Sakurai made with cutting interesting characters like Snake, Lucas, Wolf, and the Ice Climbers. Yeah you can argue Lucas was a clone of Ness but he was still an interesting clone in my opinion and could've easily been tweaked to further differentiate himself from Ness. Snake was a great character that totally fit within the universe of smash (Thanks to that Sakurai magic), and for those who disagree either a. suck at smash period or b. didn't care to play as him.

Definitely see why they cut PKMN trainer, squirtle, and ivysaur though since Charizard is riding solo this iteration. Let's not try to justify what would be a silly decision from Sakurai and Bandai Namco though. That's why I hope DLC will rectify these cuts because I know Sakurai wants his fans to be happy, and i'd rather have some great characters back than care about the game's speed.

They're my girlfriend's favorite character and she plays them exclusively. Literally will not pick anyone else. As a result, i've grown fond of them and enjoy using them but do not main them because they're really tough to use.

Impa seems like such an obvious and also fan pleasing alt/clone that I'll be a bit surprised if she is indeed missing from the game.
Like not to knock the Doc that much but if there was only time to lob in the few clones we've seen I just feel that throwing another Zelda character in who represents a line of recurring characters within the series should've taken priority over Mario moonlighting as a shady doctor especially when Rosalina and Bowser Jr are in.

It is weird, right? I still feel like there are several Mario characters more exciting than Dr. Mario. I wonder if we'll see a Dr. Luigi alt for Dr. Mario with his same moveset.

If Sakurai really liked, he could make a ton of clone DLC. Dr. Luigi and Dr. Wario should definitely be clones.

Dr. Wario's Down B would be to cause pills to explode from his arse

Kirby: Canvas Curse should be required gaming homework for everyone. EVERYONE.

I was horrified when someone said that Canvas Curse sucked.

playing it every night like the kirby fanboy I am 8)

You guys! Awesome. It's so good. Man, I love when I see people talking about how it and Mass Attack serve as these perfect bookends for the DS's library. They really do. Both are massively under-appreciated.

Your GF is the one who refuses to play the new ones if they lack ICs, right? Not sure if I'm thinking of someone else. Hopefully Chorus Kids are in and will be a reasonable substitute to her if so!

Honestly, i'd rather take Chorus Kids that's from a similar universe over another Wario of all things to be honest...
Oh I definitely want a Rhythm Heaven rep more than anything, it's just that as a Wario Land fan (it's my favorite series) I'm not exactly liking how much it's getting the shaft.

I'd love if there's a moveset based on Wario Land, but not at the expense of Brawl Wario who I think is one of the best designed characters in the series. That and it's actually really annoying for seeing criticism against Brawl Wario just because he lacks the Wario Land flair when he has a perfectly realized moveset with a lot of little subtle and neat nods to his games. It's kinda telling when the double jump animation can show that there was a lot of thought put into his moveset. Anyway, point is that it keeps Wario Land fans happy, so it's a winning option. Doesn't have to be Wario again though, could be Captain Syrup with a moveset where she can spawn enemies/goons and use them to her advantage which is a big element in the series. (Basically a perfect realization of Dedede's side B)

I'd still take a Rhythm Heaven character first though.

Impa as a Sheik clone would mean half of Zelda's reps would be clones. Impa, and the Zelda series, deserves better than the amount of clones they have. They should be treated like Pokemon and Mario

I usually see people mourning the possible loss Lucas, not so much Ice Climbers or Wolf.
While I have nothing but anecdotal experience, I honestly don't know anyone who mains ice climbers and in most groups of players I've played with they don't really get played at all.
While I'm sorry for those few who do play the frosty pair, I'm skeptical that even half the people who say they want the ice climbers around when we hear they might be cut, have even played them at all beyond an exploratory round or two to see what they're like in the first place :/

I don't really have any negative feelings at all towards the characters and I know there are people out there who genuinely play them (some of which will no doubt mention it on this page) but I can't shake the feeling they're an incredibly small crowd :o
i could easily be super wrong though, but that's my gut feeling :3

Making Dorf not a crappy clone should've probably been a priority over some clones... But maybe he has good custom moves, idk.

If characters with unique movesets can be cut, I don't think getting rid of Craptain Falclone would cause much distress.

I completely loathe to play with Ice Climbers because I can't really play them very well or able to de-sync them. For Wolf, Snake and Lucas, I really enjoy playing as them. I will keep it simple here since I don't really want to ongoing with how important they are to my friends, etc. Blah Blah.

The real reason why I'm responding to your post is that I felt that Ice Climbers is important character that truly belong to be in Smash series. I could says that Ice Climbers is one of the mascot that still living on through Smash series, along with Cap Falcon at the moment. So for me, it was completely weird to see Ice Climbers not being in the game. Yes, people said Rosalina and Luma is in the game but they are completely different character, and their gameplay is the opposite of Ice Climbers.

While i'm one of those open minded gamers that's always excited (and happy when I finally get to play it) for the next smash, I really hope Sakurai and Nintendo bring back the cut characters AT LEAST with the eventual DLC. Character balance and maybe a couple stages would make it even better and make the roster feel more complete.

Needless to say i'm very grateful for the hard work that was put in this game by Sakurai and the development team (and I understand why some might've cut) but I really hope they rectify these cuts and complete the roster with these extra missing icons.

I mostly want Snake back but i'll miss them all!

The thing with Impa, is Impa as a character has appeared in more games than Ganondorf, was created well before Ganondorf, and could just as easily have her own move set. I think she may have even been in more games than Ganon in general, although I'm not sure.

Also Ganondorf as a clone is almost a joke at this point. He's the second most important villain Nintendo has, and the third piece of a Triforce, the very lore the Zelda series is based on, and he's a clone.

It must be some kind of "thing" now, and Ganondorf can't really not be a clone, which is lame. Like you said, if folks like Mewtwo, Wolf and Ice Climbers can be cut... why can't Ganonclone be cut and replaced with a proper Ganondorf. He can keep his side special, though, it's neat and fits him.

Smash needs

Great Tiger (Punch-Out!!)
Isabelle (Animal Crossing)
Kamek (Yoshi)
Jody Summer (F-Zero)
Captain Syrup (Wario)
Polar Bear (Ice Climber)

In addition to every veteran ever

Brawlerdorf is too fun to get rid of though.

Make him more then a Falcon clone though most of his standards go through the same animations. He can be a fun brawler but he can always be better.

And 3 of his special moves are basically the same as Falcon's.

All 4 of them kinda are with the exception Flame Choke is a dash grab. Instead of a dash punch.

And his final Smash is a more reliable version of the Blue Falcon. Playing as Beast Ganon seems a more apt thing to have.

If they made Ganondorf into Rugal/God Rugal from KoF I wouldn't complain.

If Ridley was ever revealed at anything even closed off to press, EVERYONE would be blah blahing about it. A reveal like that is TOO BIG to not talk about.

Yup, that's my girlfriend. She has basically already accepted that they're not in and has told me she has no interest in the new smash bros. Looks like I'll be playing with you guys :p

What the heck is up with that first image. Looks like the unholy spawn of Ridley and Pyramid Head.

Also, I don't trust any Ridley "leaks" that don't have Other M Ridley since (if he were in) that's unfortunately the model Sakurai would probably use.

I've also unfortunately learned to never trust any leak that involves Ridley.
That's such a sad way to live. You need to be hyped up about his definite inclusion
, so the disappointment will be more intense
... like me!

Oh wow, I didn't know Sonic had a Light Speed Dash Crystal ring alt-color. That's really cool, finally Sonic gets an actual costume that makes sense and doesn't look really stupid.

Are there ANY 3D videos anywhere to watch on my 3DS of Smash bros? Just curious to see what it'll look like. I'm one of those weirdoes that plays in 3D
