I kinda feel like the protag's subdued understated design is very much intentional due to the game's supposed themes of restraint and emancipation. I imagine that breaking free from the shackles of modern society and finding one's identity will play a major role in the story.
That said I'm still hoping for some light cosmetic customization options for the characters.

I've never really been into jrpgs but persona is just amazing.

Doubtful. It looks like they're in Shibuya with a lot of shots showing stuff like cellphones. The emancipation theme seems like its going to be more based in the tech around people than anything (based on that trailer).
I suspect its just a school emblem with some similarities (maybe purposeful for the emancipation theme).

He is a pretty boy but at the same time, he is also more normal looking than Yu. It's kinda hard to explain but I like the fact that his look stands out less than Yu did.
