Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Wow, I didn't notice the page had an update on Assistant Trophies last week.

Dr. Kawashima is a great addition. I hope he becomes a playable character next time. I mean, we have a Yoga teacher, why not a neuroscientist?

Apart from it being exclusive for New 3DS... which will sadly be my excuse and many others for a while.

Which of course falls under the "did not want it enough" motif. So eh. I guess you will get your Xeno exposure with Shulk in Smash though.

I'll be happy with anyone from Rhythm Paradise, but it's still weird to me how a series that starts off with bloody Karate Joe might get the Chorus Kids as a rep. Even the wrestler would make more sense. Or red dress girl since a permutation of her has been in every game.

Well, I don't see karate Joe being as interesting, nor as good looking in the game. 3 singers is new, Karate Joe moveset... isn't, unless he took things from the others.

Man, a new console only to play Xenoblade while every other game could be played in your already owned 3DS is not a "not want it enough", it's a "not enough money for that".

Majora's Mask for the New 3DS will bring much more buyers than Xenoblade.

That'd feel incredibly slimy. Xenoblade was a fairly large game the Wii could barely handle, so it doesn't sting too much that the port is only for the N3DS. It'd be difficult to justify doing the same for an up-port of a N64 game.

If they made OoT for 3DS I wager they could do the same for MM without needing to use the New 3DS.

Morning guys! I'll be buying a new 3ds just because of Xenoblade... Can't find it for Wii anywhere and tbh don't feel like playing it on the WiiU cause it will be ugly as fuck!

Can someone do a tl;dr of today's trophy in the game?

Honestly, I've never know why people think the Wrestler is appropriate. Yeah, he's an Internet meme, but from the series point of view he's just another one of the characters. He's less important than the onions for example but no one is pushing them forward to be a rep.

Also, and I'm about to commit the cardinal sin which always results in someone screaming BUT CAPTAIN FALCON, he doesn't really do much that lends to a fight movement which incorporates the gimmick of rhythm. Sure he can wrestle, but that would seem like a wasted opportunity.

Karate Joe can summon buckets, footballs, boulders and lightbulbs.

Due to the one move nature of the games I think everyone expects a RT rep to basically make use of other character's moves or summing others. It's basically just a case of who people see as the face of the series. KJ having been a star in all the games and having significant placement in the them i.e. first in the RT, final game in DS and Wii, made him a popular choice.

Also I didn't realise characters had to be good looking to get in. He'd look unique. The difficulty is that his look slightly differs depending on the angle. His normal sideways look shows his nose almost taking up the entire lower half of his face. From the front however his nose is smaller and we can see a mouth:

Easy to pull off in separate 2D illustrations, less easy with a seamless 3D model.

Been playing it on my Wii U. Looks perfectly fine.

What about Sakurai's privacy huh? Revealing he had another obscure NES character in the game was practically a dick pic.

Obviously I agree with you

Personally I don't really like that smash stuff got leaked, but mostly cause it kinda messed with the usual hype train.

Violating a person's privacy as has been done with the celebrity leak is essentially a life long compromise. It pisses me off.

Looks great on my Gamepad as well. Even if playing it like that is kinda awkward.

Inversely I like all the leaked legit info. It tells me what I am getting and lets me get any bitching out of the way.

Pic of the day. The legendary hero Riki appears as an Assist Trophy and in Shulk's Final Smash!! As an Assist Trophy, he uses many arts like Happy Happy, Freezinate, and Yoink! He sounds a bit like Tingle…but don't worry, Tingle will make an appearance too.
By the way, a cursor will appear above Assist Trophies and Pokémon to indicate which fighter is its ally. Now you can tell right off the bat who it belongs to!!

Riki sounds nothing like Tingle, his voice is closer to Kirby's.

Was wrong about Riki thought he'd be a taunt, oh well love him as an assist too just glad he's in as he's my favorite Xenoblade character followed by Dunban

Celebrity leaks happen like every second week and while an invasion of privacy is still mostly banal shit like nudes only perverts and tabloid rags obsess over.

Legit Smash leaks come once in a full moon and either give us promises of a character-filled utopia or forewarning of a future doomed with millions of Mario and Pit clones.

Even with the Wii U's decent upscaling, I couldn't stand playing it blown up on a large screen - unlike Skyward Sword and the Prime trilogy, Xenoblade's just too rough around the edges, visually. Thankfully, it looks great on the Gamepad.

Man, this all feels so surreal. It seems like just yesterday when I was playing through Xenoblade, it was an amazing game but it felt like a niche JRPG that'd just be forgotten in years to come (by Nintendo at least, the fans would always love it), and now here we are, a Smash Bros picture of Shulk and Riki.

Riki is a member of the Nopon race in Xenoblade. He is the Legendary Heropon whom joins the party.

Only disappointing aspect of Xenoblade for me is no playable character that uses an Axe. And no those Long Swords Dunban uses dun count.

What i tried to say is that I don't think he is well designed at all, he is just one of the Rythm series characters that were drawn with a pencil and not much thought was put into it. I don't see him iconic. The singing girl (I'm horrible with names), for example, would be more iconic, but don't really see her as a fighter.

The chorus kids, or those other 3 kids with actual names, would actually be an interesting addition because of them being 3, using singing as a weapon and involving the expected fighting style of pressing buttons in sync like DK's final smash.

Just my opinions.

So what's going on with Wario? If the CSS from the Japanese eShop is final that would suggest he's been made unlockable, which would be the first time that's ever happened, right? Why the change?

P.S First ever post, woo, glad to finally be part of the hype train!

Well he was a Newcomer in MBrawl, so he didn't have many chances to be unlockable :)
They usually switch the unlockable vets a bit for every new entry.
Also: Welcome to SmashGAF :D

You may not see him as iconic but that doesn't stop him from being so otherwise they wouldn't keep brining him back.

I won't go in depth about it, but one could easily make a rhythm based move set for KJ. For exmaple. press a button once to summon bucket, press button again at the right time to punch it across the screen. Sure singing is an easy connection because singing leads to music leads to rhythm, but it's rather short sighted not to consider that any move set can be rhythm based, especially for a series that is all about adding rhythm to all sorts of situations.

Another iconic character that no one mentions is the Wondering Samurai... actually the enemies in his game make more sense for Smash Run than a sneaky spirit since they are actual enemies...

That might possibly not be the final initial roster. It's just the only roster we have to believe is the initial roster.

It wouldn't be the first time for a default character to become an unlockable since Ness went from unlockable in 64 to default in Melee and back to unlockable in Brawl. If he is unlockable I doubt there is any real reason behind it. He's just unlockable now for some reason.

Also congrats on first post! Someone will be along to post that Simpsons "Don't forget you're here forever" pic for you soon.

The implication is that he would take moves from his series, yes. Chorus Kids would have to do the same thing to be interesting.
Here's what I imagine his some of his moves would be:
(It would be cool if most of his moves took the sound effect of their origin, although that might get a touch annoying)

Jab - The punch from his first game
Jab combo - Pah Pah Punch!

Down smash - The farmer's stomp from Crop Stomp
Up smash - An upward clap matching the Clappy Trio
Side smash - Does the Wrestler's side flex

Up aerial - An uppercut that matches the pose from Night Walk
Neutral aerial - Does a 'Don don pan pan' clap
Side aerial - Whips out the Samurai's katana

Neutral Special - Break out a guitar. The shock waves hurts nearby players and diffuses projectiles when timed correctly. It could play quick soundbites from random minigames similar to that guitar game from the DS version
Up Special - A spinning roundhouse kick, maybe it could reference the spinning dogs from Board Meeting?
Side special - A charge move. The length of charge determines the type of projectile (starting with a plant pot and going up to a barrel) and how far it travels. Tapping B keeps you in place, but any amount of charge causes Joe to quickly snap to the projectile. Good for horizontal recovery.
Down special - Start speed eating like Munchy Monk. Heals you for few seconds, after which you get "Three chow chow chow!" which makes your next smash attack to loads of damage. Do you just grab a bit of healing or go for the buff? Timing is key.

Forward Throw - High, Kick, Toe!

Up Taunt - Rolls a cheer board like in Cheer Readers
Neutral taunt - does that stupid face from the end of Karate man 2
Down Taunt - Taps his foot to the ground like the Tap Dancing game in the GBA version

Final Smash - Not quite sure. Either you play a minigame and your aptitude decides the damage you do to your opponents or onions just rain down the stage,

Wow, this was way more in-depth than I was expecting.

Does Riki mean no Reyn?
I just wanted Reyn Time.

Maybe someone bought him a real watch and made him notice there were numbers and not pictures of himself on it. So he realised it never really was Reyn Time and figured he has to turn down the offer to be in Smash.
I want him as an AT, too though :(

What is that thing Riki holds in his (?) hand? I always thought that was actually Riki's face and never noticed his body (I thought it was the base of a plant) as I'd only really seen Riki in avatar form as Riki's avatar on this forum.

It's nevah Reyn Time, baybee.

I just see him walking away all sad from the Smash Bros office.
"Sorry Reyn we decided Riki is better than you in every conceivable way for this game".

It's one of his "Biter" weapons - essentially, a staff with various pieces of flora and fauna attached to the head.

It's a Nopon Weapon. I think they're called Biters!

edit: beaten.
