Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

I still don't exactly enjoy Zelda completely.
Well not the 3D games. Loved LttP and LBW though. Hoping to enjoy Wind a Waker HD which I need to play and whatever the newest game will be.

You should play Skyward. Playing it right now with my wife and we're loving it. It's really reinvigorated my appreciation for 3D Zeldas!

I think Daisy could happen (if they're willing to bend Mario's deep lore and give the Koopalings their own versions of the Jr. car, almost anything can at this point), but at the same time I'm kind of just expecting it to be her Melee costume.

Its really great to see Xenoblade getting all this love.

I don't understand the Daisy appeal in Smash, but it would be cool if they updated Peach's voice when she changed costume.

I just really like her as a character. She's the most interesting mario character to me just because of the fact we really only see her in spinoffs .

Was thinking about doing this at some point as well. The Wii motion plus stuff has me interested.

They adapt the moves to fit better with Smash bros, that rest wouldn't be any fun because it doesn't matter if they get you with their most powerful attack at some point if you can rest all the damage away.

After the initial rest during the rest period Jiggly would say have super Armor so as a power character you can dish out the damage and then use a smash attack or powerful special to KO just as Jiggly wakes up.

How rest works is you gain full health once initially and then become suspectible to damage until you wake up.

Of course grabbing Jigglypuff and upchucking the Pokemon off the stage defenseless would be amazing.

I feel like I remember Sakurai saying near the start of development that he was opposed to alts. Things change of course but it sure it interesting that the game might have quite a few in the end. I'd also be curious to hear how he decided which costumes to keep as alts and which to promote to full (albeit clone) characters.

For me it's pretty much just pure underdog appeal. If Mario is the star, Peach is the leading lady, and Luigi is the fan favorite underdog then Daisy is that nameless chick no one remembers. She is just barely a couple steps above Pauline in relevancy. She gets pulled out of the closet for the sports/party spinoffs and then gets shoved back in again. She's so irrelevant she has to constantly remind you who she is .

Thats pretty much my main reason for supporting her as a Peach alt.
Although it would be cool to see her as her own character with a spinoff based moveset, but that is literally never going to happen.

Okay, also this. This is also why I support Daisy. "Hi I'm Daisy" is a necessary taunt for Smash.

Sing isn't a great special move and should be swapped out with something more appropriate/balanced for normal play. But, seeing as how it's an iconic Jigglypuff move, massively buff it and upgrade it to her Final Smash. Works similarly to Peach's Final Smash, giving her free Rest hits on whoever she wants.

Do you guys have any other Ideas?

If we're allowed multiple alt costumes, then for Captain Falcon:

Catching up. Xenoblade getting all kinds of love in Smash it seems.

Is this game Tekken so many fist fighters...

Seriously get out with this "too many sword users" crap, 11/51 is not a lot of sword users, it's barely 1/5th of the roster. And this is assuming Dark Pit fights with a sword and not another weapon like the art hints at

THIS. Really annoys when people say that. 17% of the roster uses a sword (I don't include Pit/Dark Pit though. I do include Mii Swordsman).

Okay sure the last 4 character reveals are sword wielders but come on...

To be honest saying there's too many sword users comes across as being narrow minded to me.

Do any of the sword users play or look the same*? No? Then what's the problem? :V

*Lucina is supposed to be a clone lol

You guys are the best. :')

I don't know why it's so hard for people to see variations on how a character can use an article like a sword. It's like a character can have "muh uniqueness" or "muh quirky" but the moment they have a sheathe on hand or they grasp a hilt the entire community turns borderline bigoted against them. :lol

FWIW though, I'd love to see more weapon masters in Smash. Give me a firearm specialist (let's see some Gun Kata), staff users (Smash 4 Pit with a stance mechanic to go double knives or long staff on another character would be awesome), or a flail user (yo-yo tricks like Bridget in Guilty Gear would be so cool).

I also wonder why people hate sword characters so passionately and so irrationally. Did you really get tipper forward smashed by Marth or down air'd by Link that much in the past?

The most interesting Mario character is Luigi, because he is the only one allowed to have a personality and flaws, as all his games and some other proved.

Captain Rainbow as a Captain Falcon Alt is perfect.
Daisy would be worth it to annoy the shit out of people.
All you need is "hi I'm
Daisy" on I finite loop.

I really do think we're gonna see Daisy.
Something everyone's been wanting and is easy enough to do.
I don't think so. Daisy is just such a complete different character then Peach. While Peach is a bubble head, Daisy is more of an hothead. I can't see here, being all joy full and use abilities, she never is known to have. She would be a great semi-clone like Luigi or Ganondorf, but not as an alternative costume.

I feel like I remember Sakurai saying near the start of development that he was opposed to alts.

It was a question about the game's customization, and Sakurai answered that the customization wouldn't involve costumes, since they'd take away from the uniqueness of the characters. It wasn't about preset alternate costumes, but custom ones made up and saved by the players.

If Peach's Daisy color can become an alt, I want Luigi's Waluigi color to also.
That's a completely different situation. Waluigi has a completely different body structure and couldn't use Luigi's animations. Also, Luigi's Waluigi color also never changed stuff like his nose color, it was just a change of overalls. With Peach's Daisy colors, you've got even her hair and skin color changed.

Yeah I know its kind of a odd way to look at it.
But a big part of it that I didn't mention was that Super Mario Land on Gameboy is my favorite Mario game. So her being from that gives her points as well.

That Dream Team sequence where you can hear Luigi's thoughts was so sad.

Others are getting unique alts. plus it would be great if the 3 mario ladies can shine together....and luigi finally getting his princess.
Yeah, I'm all for more alts and I've always wanted them to make alts that have different voice work and having the announcer actually say their name. Interesting if the Koopalings are going to have this done.

Guys, I think I'm going to pay an extra $50 just to have the game at midnight next week even though the game will be delivered to my doorstep the next morning and I don't know how to stop myself.

If there's DLC you could use that money to buy characters instead!

Also semi-related, but I think I will be getting Smash 3 times:

3DS Version (Digital)
Wii U Version (Physical)
And eventually a digital version of the Wii U version, but that'd be much later down the line.

Dunno how you can say Luigi's the most interesting Mario series character for the same reason that Daisy could be seen as interesting to some. She shuns the usual dainty damsel in distress trope that seems to govern the more popular princess and goes to the far right seemingly flying off the handle more often and getting shit done if we go based on her personality in the spin offs. She's like the princess version of Luigi to Peach's Mario.

But she doesn't really have a character at all. Unlike Luigi, she's much more of a cartoon character, she just fits a standard tomboy trope. I honestly couldn't tell you a single thing else about her, because she's only been in sports games as a side character. That's not interesting.

She's also annoying.

Her only mainline appearance is getting kidnapped and rescued. You could make a better argent for Rosalina, who hasn't been kidnapped once.

Not to pile on, but I have to agree with this. Has she been really characterized much in these sports spin-offs, or is it more based on her outfits? That's all I've seen of her from those games as I haven't played them much so I'm genuinely curious.

Oh well actually, I can see where this would come from. In the context of the spin off games though this is good enough (at least for me).

That said, Luigi's my favorite Mario series character most of the time so...

A lot of it is just inference from her animations and mannerisms between Mario Kart, Golf, and Strikers (this especially) appearances.

No, she plays tennis, football, and minigames in Mario Party, that's all. Peach has some personality thanks to Paper Mario and her own game. Daisy is the Mario character with less personality, because all she did was play sports or other generic stuff.

I already explained why I say that about Luigi, if you don't understand it, play the paper mario games, the Mario & Luigi games and the Luigi's mansion games, because they are awesome and build a great personality for Luigi.

Let's not base the personality of a character on how they ride a Kart or hit a dice people.

It varies, IMO. Mario Tennis' sequels and Strikers give her animation sets that give a sense of personality, but in Mario Kart and Party they don't really put any effort into giving her an unique personality and she's basically a Peach pallet swap with a different voice.

Nintendo has said Daisy was tomboyish, but we've never seen it in games. She just yells a lot.

Luigi is known as a coward. But we've actually seen that in his actions. His mannerisms express his personality, being jumpy, worried and a coward, even in Smash. There's also something unsettling about Luigi, that comes across in his old final smash and his association with the paranormal.

Luigis is probably the best defined personality in the Mario universe, with Bowser and Wario being right behind him. Daisy is not defined as a character at all, most of her characteristics we know from being told them, but she never really acts like them.

So this is a bit off topic, but since we're talking about princesses...

What exactly is Rosalina princess of? I mean, she is a princess right? Daisy has Sarasaland Peach has theMushroom Kingdom and Rosalina has... what exactly?

I've never known despite Rosalina being my favorite Mario princess.

She's not a princess, more like a goddess. She's the care taker of the Lumas. She's above petty kingdoms, she has a more important job

Shes not. Just wears the crown to fit the royal lady trope.
