Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

I agree that it looks great. I think the city trial gameplay translates really well into smash; however I feel like it will be out-shined by regular smash matches and wont be played as often

Jawmuncher summed up how I'm feeling about its potential popularity:

Because its on the 3DS I see it staying decently active. For when people want a break of the typical match this should fill that space nicely.

Since it's advertised to the player right on the main menu, I think it will be especially popular.

You can't chalk that up to me still being bitter about daisy being on the sidelines. While Rosalina just jumped in. There has to be a comic elaborating on this.

Pick one, anyone!

But my personal favorite:

Guys, I think I'm going to pay an extra $50 just to have the game at midnight next week even though the game will be delivered to my doorstep the next morning and I don't know how to stop myself.

If that $50 is something you can afford that makes you happy, I say go for it!

Nintendo has said Daisy was tomboyish, but we've never seen it in games. She just yells a lot.

Like I said, it depends on the game.

Compare Peach's and Daisy's animations in Strikers/Charged. Peach does seem significantly more feminine than Daisy here.

What you say is true for Mario Kart and Party though. On the other hand, it's due to those games where Daisy is basically a Peach skin that she still has a chance to appear in Smash as a Peach skin. Considering how Waluigi still hasn't made it to Smash, there's no way Daisy would have any chance at all if she were actually consistently unique and had to be her own character.

Was thinking about doing this at some point as well. The Wii motion plus stuff has me interested.

When it first came out we didn't give it much of a chance and now we're loving it. Pretty far in too, I think. It's a game to really make you feel like you're playing as Link. Also, be sure to use a Wiimote with MotionPlus built it so it's less bulky!

i haven't played Galaxy (and likely won't be able to until a n3DS port arrives) but i want to find out who this Rosalina character is

any harm in youtubing these story book movies or will it really impact my eventual galaxy play?

Well, in all seriousness, I definitely see potential in them doing something with her and I understand the frustration in them not doing so. Luigi didn't always have a personality, but once they started adding to his character through Luigi's Mansion and the Mario & Luigi games, he's actually a pretty deep character as far as Mario games go. Daisy was added to Mario Tennis so there would be more female diversity, which is fine, but they never did anything with her beyond that; I'd love for them to have her in an RPG or something and expand her personality. Rosalina on there other hand, while not some crazy layered character, has a pretty extensive backstory and a personality beyond how she yells when making a goal.

The obvious comparison here is Mario as...well, he doesn't really have much of a personailty outside of being determined and optimistic. But he has the benefit of generally being the player character, so we are able to tie our own emotions from the various games we've played as him; it doesn't matter that Mario is sort of a canvas, I remember feeling nervous in World 8 of Super Mario Bros. 3, so as a result I can apply the skill and courage I had to work up in that game to Mario. I guess you could apply the same logic to Daisy and have a sports themed move set, but, at least for me, that's not a character type I want in Smash.

I've been just wanting the sports centric since at this point that's all there is too her. Though it would be nice to see her actually get elaborated on in the future. Would be cool to have a worthy addition to the Mario line.
Never thought about that for Mario though but it definitely makes sense. It is interesting how a lot of his personality really is from the players experience.

Nah, go for it. You don't even have to watch the backstory stuff to finish the game.

Man... it did the opposite for me, and a lot other people.

No doubt, I know like most 3D Zeldas it's very polarizing. I didn't care much for it when it first came out, but now I love it.

Just as a devil's advocate for jon bones to consider, I think the backstory storybook stuff actually really adds a lot to the playthrough of SMG and is superb as part of the overall experience of the game. It's not essential in terms of gameplay, by any means; just wanted to offer a differing opinion for jon to consider. Just FWIW. BTW, jon, no access to a Wii or Wii U? SMG port is by no means guaranteed and it's an incredible game.

It's more of exposition for Rosalina than anything. You can complete the game without watching any of the Storybook scenes.

HOLY SHIT A CICADA KILLER JUST TAGGED A CICADA IN FRONT OF ME

Also, Other M Samus is Nintendo's Lightning.
Iwata Asks Other M said:
IWATA: What was Sakamoto-san like in the studio?

KITAURA: He stood close to me, checking the monitors. When we'd shoot a particularly moving scene, I'd ask him 'How was that, Sakamoto-san?', but he'd be completely silent - again.

IWATA: Just like when he saw the storyboards for the first time?

KITAURA: Yes! (laughs) I was really worried, thinking 'Oh no, he doesn't like it...', but then when I peeked at his face, his eyes were full of tears.
1994 Super Metroid Interview said:
Secret of Samus that only I know: I know where Samus's beauty mark is.

I finally decided to get a 32 GB SD card for my 3DS since I want Smash Bros in my 3DS all the time.

Now I all I have to do it wait for October 3rd.

Sounds good. Might do it sometime after I finish Xenoblade.

And Arlon! Who everyone forgets about.

Pyrron just overshadows arlon a lot though. Which is why we all forget.

A lot of it is just inference from her animations and mannerisms between Mario Kart, Golf, and Strikers (this especially) appearances.

Oh, cool. Yeah, I definitely got that more from the Strikers stuff I've seen. BTW, I am a huge Luigi fan too, and it was great to see him get his due last year.

No, she plays tennis, football, and minigames in Mario Party, that's all. Peach has some personality thanks to Paper Mario and her own game. Daisy is the Mario character with less personality, because all she did was play sports or other generic stuff.

I already explained why I say that about Luigi, if you don't understand it, play the paper mario games, the Mario & Luigi games and the Luigi's mansion games, because they are awesome and build a great personality for Luigi.

Let's not base the personality of a character on how they ride a Kart or hit a dice people.

Haha, see, we have plenty of shared opinions on games. Peach's depiction in the Paper Mario series is amazing. Luigi's games as you mentioned above are all stellar, and last year was a true testament to that. (I loved the nods in 3DW and NES Remix as well!)

Yeah, player experience for me is the defining aspect of video game story telling that I don't think a lot of games have hit on yet. I don't need the character to tell me how he feels constantly, as if you've made the gameplay appropriate I should be already feeling that. That's why there's such a deep connection to characters like Mario, Gordon Freeman, Link, and Samus (before Other M) despite there not being a whole lot of "character moments" for them; the gameplay is so well designed towards evoking certain feelings that you have the emotional memory of the character and their journey. That's my thought on it, anyway.

True, I guess I should have elaborated. It won't kill the game by any means, but it may add a nice little side quest to it.

Huh, so Riki is an AT as well as part of a FS... Well I didn't see that coming, I owe someone an apology for insisting that Riki was a taunt and a FS only.
