Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

When or where... did I say any of this? Are we having two different conversations or something?

You're making completely dismissive generalizations and justifying the ridiculous "No Fun Allowed" crap that spawned from casual players who hate people who aren't playing by their strict for "fun" ruleset.

Basically, casual players can call people tourney***gs, they can call them autistic, but the moment a tournament player says that Brawl sucked... oooh, what an asshole! All tourney players are jerks and the tournament scene is awful!

Guys...don't get banned this close to launch. Please.

No, no.. let them burn

Okay guys, stop with this casual vs. competitive talk. Save it for another time, when the actual game comes out.

Settle your differences by beating each other in a proper 1-on-1 Smash game :p

I agree with your sentiment... but I think you're being way too aggressive here. Especially with repeatedly focusing on the slur that no one here is using.

"The POTD is about For Glory mode. If you play anything else you need to grow up"

"If you play too much For Fun mode the title screen will actually change into a picture of the entire Smash roster laughing at you. This was a fun piece that all the developers thought would add a great bit of personality to the game, particularly the female designer."

My point is that casual players don't get taken to task for what a fringe group of assholes say, but the tournament scene as a whole is worsened because of shitty attitudes among some of its players.

I've been here for 2 years and only have 170 posts. No idea how you guys post so much.

I'm hoping we get a few more music posts before the Japanese release. Those updates have been hyping me more than the images.

I swear to God it feels like some of you people are arguing past each other rather than at each other :/

Damn, here I thought it was about the length of membership. Guess I'm still a long way away!

Its X number of months (I forget if its 3 or 6, I think its 3) AND 300 posts

Does a proper 1-on-1 Smash game have items on, or off? And is it on omega stages, or regular?

When did I EVER use a homophobic slur to describe ANYONE here? Show me. Seriously. I am super against that shit and if I'd done that, I would (a) apologize profusely and (b) have been banned already.

Also, in my posts on this topic, I have said many times that not EVERYONE is like those horrible "pro" players. I have said straight up that I've net friendly players in that community. Very few, but I have met them. It seems you have assumed a lot about me that is very inaccurate.

Many "pro" players specifically do try to take the fun out of Smash by shitting on the rest of us who don't play it like they do, like we're somehow worse. Most of the rest of us, on the other hand, really couldn't give a shit how the Melee community plays.

And can I say, by the way, that a HUGE part of the problem is "pro" players calling anyone who doesn't play like them "casuals" (like you just did). It's NOT that binary. You can play seriously and competitively under any rule set. The fact that I don't like to play on only two stages with items off and characters banned doesn't mean I'm suddenly a casual Smash player. It's derogatory and dismissive, and that's where the severe distaste a lot of us have for that community begins. It's completely, utterly justified.

He's talking about the word tourneyfag being used as a slur against competitive players being far, far, far, far more prevalent than competitive players dismissing the other side, not saying that you used it (afaik)

Also I find it the opposite, most competitive players don't give a shit about how the other side plays as long as they can keep their mechanics that make the game more interesting and either make it separate from casual play or make it more accessible to everyone.

There aren't any other words to describe it that quickly and easily though, also competitive players don't have characters banned and they don't play with only two stages, mr. generalisation.

There are even rulesets for tournaments that have items turned on for tournaments, it's just that nobody uses them because it's far less interesting in a tournament setting and what they do add to the game is ruined by all the random factors.

It's a common term in the fighting game scene, if you don't participate in a tournament you're a casual. It's not meant to be derogatory. It just means you play the game more casually than someone who wants to put money on the line for it.
Not playing in tournaments doesn't mean you play casually. I've never been to a tourney in my life but I'm extremely dedicated to Smash. The exact opposite of casual.

Yeah the sweeping generalizations that are being made here are kind of troubling.

I like playing with items free for all with friends, I also like playing in tournaments or serious Battlefield/Final Destination/Yoshi's Story/etc 1v1 vs friends.

I like Smash for being a celebration of Nintendo's history, but I also like my fighting games to have a lot of depth. High skill ceiling but easy to get into.

Wanting Smash 4 to be more like Melee which had a high skill ceiling but still fun to play "casually" doesn't make me an obnoxious tourney player or anything who shits on people who don't like it, but it does get annoying having to explain to people that you can have an easily accessible game and have a tournament friendly game at the same time.

Not playing in tournaments doesn't mean you play casually. I've never been to a tourney in my life, but. I'm extremely dedicated to Smash. The exact opposite of casual.

Like I said, it's just a common term used, don't take it so literally. Most people I know use "scrub" when they're trying to be derogatory or mean about it.

"If you play too much For Fun mode the title screen will actually change into a picture of the entire Smash roster laughing at you. This was a fun piece that all the developers thought would add a great bit of personality to the game, particularly the female designer."

The female designer sealed the deal.
Perfection.

Every time a large group of juniors get approved a large amount of them congregate to the smash thread

The hype is real. But we already knew that.

Damn, here I thought it was about the length of membership. Guess I'm still a long way away!

Ayee.

It is. I think you have to be here at least 3 months since your account was validated in addition to 300 posts and you know...not getting banned. Getting banned as a junior 90% of the time means you're permabanned.

I was the 10%.

The next music update is going to contain three songs that have already appeared in the reveal trailers. Just a feeling that I have... and it's still better than no update at all?

You know my favorite part about debates? When they spark discussion between people debating about the debate occurring, and people complaining because it makes them feel better.

I am laughing mentally because this is my idea of a good time, and oh god sakurai please hurry up with that pic of the day

Uhhh....time to butt in with this recommendation:

Anyone remember this series this one guy did on Youtube several years ago called History of Super Smash Bros. Melee? There was a lot of great history between stage design, items, character move references, and even the ideas behind some event matches.

It's a great series and I recommend everyone to watch some of it. He did start doing this for Brawl, but for some unknown reason some time later he left Youtube.

Just noticed your not a Junior anymore. Grats!

And now were at page 300.....man smash is so close.

Smash will likely never be Melee again.

Those guys honestly need to let go. It's a decade old title. Smash is designed to be very easy access these days and will not ever be Melee again.

It seems to be much easier to rack up post numbers in community threads, as conversations tend to flow better than here in gaming where everyone just gives their 2 cents on an issue and then bails.
