Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS: All-Star Mode Implies More Characters Beyond the Leak

zlCfzSZeToEgud9Pf2

Pic of the day. This time, you can challenge every fighter in All-Star Mode from the moment you turn on the game!! This is a survival battle with limited recovery items and no option to continue. However, this mode will be incomplete until you've unlocked every fighter... Until then, you can only play against characters that are already available. This is a picture of the bottom-screen menu, with a padlock indicating that the mode is still incomplete.

In these battles, multiple opponents appear in one stage, and you clear the battle by defeating a number of them. The rest area that appears between battles displays the next opponents and the year the characters made their first appearances, and it also holds recovery items and an occasional reward. The characters you fight against appear pretty much in chronological order. Behold, the history of Nintendo games!!

This isn't anything 100% concrete, but it's certainly a hopeful sign. *tentative REJOICING* :D

(For those that don't know, the leaked screenshots showed the same padlock on the All-Star Mode, but had all currently known characters on the select screen, meaning that there are quite possibly more characters to be revealed.)

Not concrete since the footage could of had different parts from different saves and such.

But it's nice to hope. :D Especially since I can't imagine the character selection screen having that much empty space at the bottom around Shulk and Random select

This! We are not sure at all, but that selection screen felt like an incomplete mess.

Weren't Lucas, Snake, Ice Climbers, Wolf mentioned as DLC in the leaks?

Snake's return would be pretty cool.

Yeah. This isn't a smoking gun, this isn't proof that there's more characters for sure, but it means there's a significant chance that we might have more characters in the game than we currently know about.

The speculation and excitement about new reveals is back.

If they are going to reveal the entire roster ahead of time they have to do so soon. The game launches in two more weeks.

I'm confused. How does this imply that there may be more characters, aside from the ones shown from the leak?
The image of All-Star mode in the leak had the padlock.

However that screen could have been taken before the final roster that was shown was fully unlocked.

But #TeamHope forever.

It's not 100% confirmation (hence implies), but the leak had the padlocked All-Star mode, but also had all known characters unlocked. It could of been from two separate saves, but that seems unlikely considering how this mode works and the way the bottom of the select screen looks.

Confirmed fake iirc but there's still hope for those guys minus Snake. Plus with DLC support for Mario Kart 8 it wouldn't be surprising to see DLC support for Smash.

I can't imagine Snake being in without being on the box or advertised 2 weeks before JPN release outside of some crazy Kojima twist madness.

Just when I started to accept that Simon Belmont wouldn't be in the game, Sakurai turns the table.
Still not expecting him, but it is exciting to know that the leak is not definite. I like a little surprise in my Smash. The Dojo updates left nothing to be desired last time around and it took a bit of the fun away for me.

eh. i wouldnt take this as an implication of more to come. we dont know at what point of time those esrb videos and screens were taken.

the only reason im sticking by there being more characters is the way the css was arranged in the leaked screens

Yeah, but the UI doesn't make sense. The character selection screen on 3DS consists entirely of character icons. So why would there be random grey spaces? Either:

a) If the known roster was the full roster, then the characters would be sized/positioned such that there won't be a random grey space
b) There would be some design in the grey space
c) Space reserved for DLC

He was fun to play though.

I personally believe there's a few characters left, yes, and the UI inconsistency is the main reason why I believe so.

But it's not concrete evidence and Melee had some empty spaces too.

He was fun to play though.

Indeed, which is why I wish for no character cuts of any kind since even the clones like Roy offered a different experience. But it's not realistic.

Jumping the gun here. It doesn't reveal anything new besides that we can play All-Stars before everyone is unlocked. The leak was from an E3 reel with different gameplay segments at different time intervals. The locked All-Stars screen from the leak could have been taken at the exact situation shown in the POTD. The full roster then could have been shown later indicating a different time period. Two screenshots that are mutually exclusive.

It could, but when you add to the fact that the ERSB frequently gets games still in progress, and the fact that the bottom of the select screen looks like a total mess, I think this is a very good sign.

Of course it could mean nothing. Maybe there are no more characters on the cart. Maybe the spaces at the bottom are for DLC. But it's still worth pointing out.

Didn't he say at some point that he was planning on not revealing all the fighters this time?

Did he? Either way we'll know the entire roster a few days (if not hrs) after it launches in Japan.

On topic, this theory is a bit.....out there. I wonder how many sites will run a rumor that more secret characters are still to come courtesy of this thread now.

Only difference is that Melee's select UI had other things in it too. It wasn't entirely dependent on character icons. That's the thing!

True. I don't doubt we will get more character later down the line for exactly the reasons you stated, just wanted to point out why this isn't a done deal since there was a lot of misinformation still lingering from the when the leaks happened.

Anyone able to link to those leaked images? I don't think I ever got to see them because I've been AFK a lot repairing a ceiling fan.

Why does "it's different builds in a single reel" make it sound like it's an argument against more characters?
