Just a heads up, you might want to leave NeoGAF soon just in case. The game could leak at any point, and when it does it'll definitely get a thread.

People are thinking of bringing the stock count down to 3 stock for 8 minutes or potentially even 2 stock because of how long a character stays alive in the new game(s).

But the stock count you suggested is pretty ridiculous.

Unless you like the idea of practically every game going to sudden death, idk.
 
Okay, based on opinions and logical thinking, I won't be taking registration now. I'll do this at the end of the month.

I will update my posts then and ask for all interested parties to PM me.

DO NOT PM me now, I'll let you know when I'm readying. Doing this due to risk of those forgetting and not taking part.

That way it's kept simple and neutral. I've never understood the point of thread subtitles on GAF. Many times they just promote arguing or cause confusion.

Actually, I did considered that but seeing all community threads having subtitles as you could check in gaming community section made me hesitated to not including subtitle.

At least there is a good subtitle being suggested.

The SSSB was the first planned Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS tournament, scheduled to occur a week after launch as a "for fun" tournament where new players, experienced players alike can get together and enjoy casual Smash tournament gameplay with fellow NeoGAF members without having to succumb to the original plain tournament rules of banned stages and whatnot. This tournament is designed to be nothing but fun, so everything will be vastly different from what tournaments you're normally used to.

It's time to tip the scales?!

This Smash tournament will play with different rules than most Smash tournaments, and they are as follows:

  • Five minute, four stocks for matches
  • Eight minutes, five stocks for Semi and Grand Final matches
  • Single Elimination progression - Best of ONE!
  • Items will be on low for all matches except Semi and Grand finals (FS will be on too!) - Items and FS are OFF in Semi/Grands
  • Players will be matched with timezones where possible to kickstart this ASAP
  • Will begin Monday 13th October and will last until the Sunday

What will be included?

The sole purpose of this tournament is of course, to enjoy Smash and everything it has to offer. As it is not a hardcore, to the bones tournament, the following will apply:


  • All stages will be available, the purpose is to fully enjoy what Smash has to offer - Choose your own stages, or even agree with your opponent!
  • In the Semi/Grand finals, stages will be Final Destination, all variations are available
  • All characters will be available, though I ask you do NOT change your pick and to stick with them the whole tournament!
  • As said, players will try and be matched with timezones where possible to easily kickstart the tournament
  • There will be opportunity for a 3rd winner (runner-up!) in addition to your normal runner up

I decided I won't take registration yet as it is too early and most likely many will drop out, shall update this closer to release.

Will send out PM's with your first match and date when brackets are all ready to go! :)

Note: Final submissions for entry are this Friday so I can create the bracket sheet and customise it to my liking.

Since I am using Lucina in the Bash Sisters Tourney maybe I'll use one of my Brawl mains in this one. Toon Link or G&W hhmmm....

Biggest slap in the face to daisy fans. Even though canonically, daisy being a peach clone doesn't make too much sense, I think at this point, daisy fans would take that over nothing at all.

Then, adding pink gold peach tells daisy fans 'this fake peach we made for mario kart? More important than daisy'

Also the fact that it's single elimination, best of one means that almost every game will be decided by the sudden death, which means you just pick characters with spammable moves to win.

Very easy to completely stall every game with a fast character with a timer that low and then just insta-kill the other player on the SD.

I don't think it's the right thing to do just because all the other threads are doing it...but it's your call.

Many of the past thread subtitles for these Smash Bros. threads alone have ignighted silly arguments, caused confusion and misinformation, and just all around detract from the main topic of the thread. Not that you can't have a thread subtitle that doesn't cause any of that...but going neutral and leaving out a subtitle would be best, in my opinion, and I don't understand why more thread creators on GAF don't do that. Omitting a subtitle makes the thread title look less cluttered, too.

Plus, leaving out a subtitle also eliminates the whole process of suggesting or voting on subtitles in the previous thread, which has gotten pretty crazy previously and leads to people complaining about one subtitle being chosen over another. If you just stick with the official title of the game, then there's none of that to worry about.

Just my two cents on the matter.

I was thinking the same thing, but with items and especially smash balls turned on, the matches will probably be a little quicker. Will probably also help that most of us aren't as skilled or as patient as Hungrybox or Zero. I don't think it would be a big issue.

But Sah, maybe consider upping the standard time limit from 5 minutes to 6 at least? Or going down one stock for all the matches.

Also in this ruleset, how is a winner determined in a timeout? Just by playing out the sudden death?
 
So even if Dark Pit uses the staff instead of the now, there's no reason why he cant be a complete 1:1 clone like Lucina, right? Maybe with more range or something to give him those extra properties?

@IntelliHeath, I get what you mean, but I still think it would be cool to define the SSB4 OTs as simply "Super Smash Bros. 4 |OT| for Nintendo 3DS."
