Oh hell Yes. It's one of the best avengers run I've read. The best in recent years until Hickman showed up. And I still like Busieks run more so far. his Ultron arc is great and loved the Kang arc. Also check out Avengers Forever

Will get right on it. Astro City is one of my favourites.

any good??? it's one of the best!

I am still fairly new to superhero comics. It is rather funny that I read (and loved) Planetary and Astro City without having read too many of the "big" superhero comics.

Finished Superman Secret Identity. Didn't like the start, but it became absolutely excellent very quickly. Particularly loved how Lois's nose got bigger as she aged, such a nice detail.

Hm, Busiek is quite old, explains a bit of the tone. Had never heard of him. Off to find out if Astro City is as good as it looks.

Astro City is brilliant!

Why Soule went exclusive with Marvel.

The way he does all that he does never ceases to amaze me.

I have a few novels to polish and hopefully release, for one thing.

So he's been doing this lawyer thing, he's been writing 8 comics, AND HE'S BEEN WRITING A FEW NOVELS.

I swear this guy has figured out some secret to time that nobody else knows.
And/or he has the same sleep schedule as Malcolm X did (3 hours of sleep every night IIRC).

I've really enjoyed the 600 or so pages of his Conan run that I've read so far, too!
In fact, I hope to get back to reading that sometime really soon.

But yeah, I'd highly recommend picking up this TPB and checking it out. It's totally self-contained and happens to be my favorite arc of the run too.

Oh, Zombine! Did you ever get a chance to read that TPB?

Yep. This is happening. Triple post. Thanks a lot Cheska for making me do this. Haha

A little unrelated to the Marvel signing, but according to that blog post he's going to be in San Francisco next month :O I think I'm going to try and get that day off so I can meet him and get some stuff signed.

Nice!
He's also coming to San Diego. Buuut I actually haven't read anything by Charles Soule so I don't really have any reason to go. Plus driving downtown would be a drag.
Speaking of San Francisco though, I really ought to go up there soon. I've only been once and it was in 4th grade. One of my best friends just moved to San Francisco and really wanted me to move up with her, but I'm too cheap and don't think I could handle those rent prices, so the next best thing I could do is visit sometime soon. I could use some of that cool weather. Stupid sunny San Diego.

Speaking of Conan, it appears that the Colossal Conan omnibus is already going out of print in a lot of places. I think it may be time I pick it up. I've never actually read any of his stories or comics though. I know he's all "kill kill kill", but is there actual emotion and "feels"?

If you come up here, let me know! We can grab a drink or grab some coffee and visit the numerous comic shops around SF haha

That is exactly what he is not in most good Conan stories.
Conan is brains with brawn. A whole lotta brains. It is what sets him apart.

Think of him as a less stupid Steve Rogers.

And yes, there is emotion, drama, family drama, the works. Gods, his family story is a mess. Conan gets no gold stars for parenting.

Hrm, now trying to recollect, but... "Conan the Berserker" stories were...quite rare, unless my memory is playing tricks on me.

Ooh, interesting! Maybe I'll end up with my first OOP book that goes for crazy resale prices!
I actually blind bought Colossal Conan without having read any Conan stories or comics at all and my main fear was that it was just going to be senseless violence and killing. What it is though is a collection of some incredibly well-crafted adventure stories with fantastic art. I'd definitely recommend it, not as a good Conan book or a good fantasy book, but as a straight-up really good comic.
If you did want to give the book a little preview before going all in though, the first TPB is really great. And if you do decide to get it and for some reason don't care for it, worst case scenario, you can resell it for the inevitably high OOP prices. :P

And sounds good! Will do!

It's good to know that there appears to be more to Conan than the brawn aspect of things. I'll have to add this to my IST order next week since there doesn't appear to be much of anything else coming out.

Skottie Young, fuck yes.

He really was the perfect choice for art in the series. From what I've seen, he's brought the world of Oz to life in a way I don't think I've seen before.

Cheska, I think you may have a shopping addiction. :(

I personally think so. I know a lot of people in here don't care for Cullen Bunn, but I personally have enjoyed his work and I like Deadpool, so what the hell right!? Most of those series are highly rated on Comixology as well, so some people out there agree with me :P

I've never read much Deadpool at all. I still haven't got to my Uncanny Xforce omnibus yet.

But the Minibus sounds fun. I dunno.... I guess for half off, it's worth a shot

I'm definitely not the best at managing my money. I guess the difference being that instead of spending money on clothes, shoes, make up, whatever else other women generally buy, I stick to consumer shit like toys and comics :( My brothers girlfriend is a make up artist and she had a woman spend $700 on make up on one day alone O_O

The upside to this, is that for the most part I can sell this stuff if I ever outgrow it, similarly to how I did with all those game/anime figures.

We all have our vices though I guess. My fiancé and I are very much homebodies now. Back when we were younger and first met, we were always going out and partying. Now that we live on our own, all we want to do is stay in and enjoy it lol.

It's not like it's just you. There's a definite consumer culture in America that encourages people to spend more than they should/can afford. I can spend $300 a month on import figures, but honestly, it's getting a bit tiring waiting for the monthly invoices. I'll buy the stuff I have pre-ordered for the rest of the year, but I'm cutting way back for 2015. I'm already being extremely picky with my 2015 orders. I think for the most part, I'm going to be sticking with Kotobukiya bishoujos.

I'm probably gonna cave on that Kerrigan, though. It won't be hard once I cut out most of the pvc purchases.

Hey everybody. I just started reading comics, again. I want to know what should I read because I'm in to Marvel Comics and I am reading Uncanny X-Men and All-New X-Men.

Hawkeye and Daredevil are fantastic. I am really enjoying the new Punisher. Secret Avengers and Superior Foes of Spider-Man are great comedies.

Black Widow is good, but it makes you want to take some lithium after.

Thank you. I gave up on the Secret Avengers when Steve Rogers became Captain America again. I was really into the first run of it. I'm going to give Daredevil a try. I'm not a huge fan of him but I said that about Batman. 12 issues can change the way you look at a character if the writer and artist can be on the same page.

That was really corny.

Superior Foes of Spider-Man is the best Marvel book right now

Please read it, it has nothing to do with Spider-Man and it's hilarious

Starting Batman soon, but just wondering where the annuals should go in the reading order.
The 1st one says Owl stuff, so I'm assuming it's around that arc, just not sure where. The 2nd mentions some Year One stuff, but it also has some other stories too.

I read Planetoid. I really liked it. I thought the art was badass.

Yeah, that was a fun book. Garing's working on a followup sequel, which will hopefully arrive next year. Morgan Freeman bought the option for a possible film adaptation.

I'm just curious, what did everyone here think about the New 52 I,Vampire run?

Personally, I really enjoyed it. It was my introduction to Andrew Bennet. It had a really strong beginning and good middle, but I kinda lost interest towards the end of the run.

The first one should go along with "Night of the Owls," the second part of the arc. If you're getting the trades it's printed in the appropriate place. After that I'm not sure it matters at all.

As a general rule I find it weird when you combine stuff like Vampires into Superhero mythologies. So I avoided the series completely when it launched. One of the only series I didn't pull, in fact.

Hmm, I can't argue with that. But if your into supernatural-type books at all, with great art and writing I do recommend checking it out. Batman (Eternal) & Justice League Dark both deal with supernatural.

Edit: Is Tinypic banned? I tried uploading and posting some images to show off the artwork but it didn't link properly?

Didn't Justice League Dark and I,Vampire crossover?

They've crossed over once or twice I believe. And I think I saw a preview for a new Justice League Dark issue with Andrew Bennet.

Oh I don't doubt the art. It's Sorrentino-tier. In hindsight I feel like I should have supported it.

Took a break from comics in late 2012/early 2013. So glad Saga got buzz. I have the first few issues in 1st print bagged/boarded.

I only vaguely remember this. I, Vampire started out so well, too. Then it just collapsed into mediocrity by issue 14 or some such. JLD I stopped reading a bit later, but I'm curious as to how its been.

I have every issue so far bagged and boarded. Cha-ching. $_$

Still buying dat deluxe HC.

Should I check out any of the other shit he's done?

I don't think he really has much in the way of published work yet. I know he did a short for the Vertigo Quarterly anthology earlier this year. I'm not sure if there's really anything beyond that at this point. Of course, he did everything on Planetoid (script, art, lettering, etc) so he's not pumping stuff out, especially when he likely has a day job.

Our last beautiful Andrea Sorrentino Green Arrow issue..

I don't know what to do. Should I just buy the two Zero Year hardcovers or should I wait in hopes for a Deluxe/Absolute/whatever edition and maybe miss the hardcovers?

I really liked it. Good story an great art. I was sad to see it go

Don't forget, you still need to get the Doom Patrol omnibus too. :P
And if it's between Conan and Doom Patrol, Doom Patrol all the way. Conan is great and I've really enjoyed it a lot, but Doom Patrol is my all time favorite comic ever and never stops amazing me.

Missed my bus. No comics for me.

You take the bus to Comixology.com?

Well,,, Yeah it sucks Elektra is being cancelled but if I'm correct at least we get another 7 issues. Heard it was going up to 12 issues ((Talking Comics Podcast))

I quite enjoyed volume 1 of Deadly Class in the end. It didn't start where I thought it would, but navigated there a bit in the end. And there's always an opportunity for nice art when a protagonist is
tripping.

But I was a bit annoyed with Comixology - it's interface isn't great at handling lots of content IMO, and when I went to the sales page the trade wasn't on sale, just the individual issues. Now it is, and I'm stuck with six individual books.

It'd be really nice if something could be done about that. If you're a publisher, do you actually care if people buy 6 individual issues or the electronic trade that they make up? Would it be easier to let people access both for no additional fee?

If you're Comixology, is there more that can be done to make story arc management make more sense? I'm trying help my wife read through the Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul and the user experience of doing that is not... newbie friendly, to say the least. Moving between half a dozen different titles with no guide or continuity than the list I gave her with some issue numbers scrawled on it.
