Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Hi, I'll be doing my first modding with a MadCatz SF IV Fightstick (the basic one) and I'd like to know if the buttons have to be 24 or 30 mm wide. I'd like to go with Seimitsu PS-14-D, but they're 24 mm and I'm not sure if they fit, as it seems everyone is using PS-14-KN ones, which are 30 mm.

I'll be getting a LS-32-01 stick for my shmup needs.

You need 30mm. 24mm are smaller, like for start buttons.

Thanks! That's the questions you want answered when there's no easy access to see and try the buttons yourself.

Also, push vs screw: does it really matter?
Push work great for the metal control panels and will be the easiest to work with for your mod, but you could do either

Also, when you swap an ls32 in for a jlf, the wire harness that connects to it will need to be reconnected upside down since that's how the ls32 is wired.

Great! I read about the upside-down thing somewhere, thanks for reminding me.

So I bought an arcade board.

And now I'm building a 2 player controller for it with an astro city panel as a base.

1. Any deals going on for buttons/sticks? Right now my FA shopping cart is about $80 for 8 30mm buttons, 2 24mm buttons, 2 button plugs, 2 JLFs, 2 balltops. And that is a lot of money! Coupons, upcoming events there might be discounts for, anything.

2. Anyone have experience building cases? I honestly don't even know where to start...

No experience personally...but I'd definitely go the solid block of wood and then hollow it out with a router, wood-working tools etc. Those always look good with arcade panels!

ALSO if there's an alternative to building a case I'll welcome that. At this point I will suspend the panel with cinderblocks and let those wires dangle.

Is their Shadowloo 15% discount still going on?

Hey folks...I got a bit of a problem with my Madcatz Fight stick. Its the old SF4 one (not the TE) and I wanted to get rid of the white. I can custom paint the casing and replace the buttons and all that no problem but that still leaves me with the issue of the stick switch on the upper left still being white.

Here's a pic of someone else's stick. Its the area in the upper left that houses the two switches to stick select, lock it out, and to toggle turbo/ hit the Home button.

Where can I buy different colored versions of this part? Whats it called officially because I don't even know how to look it up. I'm seriously considering doing some fancy paint schemes and LED's but I need to replace or be able to work with this part better.

This is the turbo module or control module. We don't sell it on it's own unfortunately. But I'm sure you can track one down on SRK forums/trading outlet or maybe even here.

More info on the Ultra Street Fighter IV TE2 this week, btw.

I might even do a video/stream to answer people's questions about them.

how much more are you willing to spend.

ideal you'd want to go for a Blast City control panel bezel assembly.. or an Astro city bezel/shell and just make a makeshift lower half.

if you just wanna make something out of your panel, then this is the best example ive seen imo.

(bonus cuz he's also a VF player)

I like this

I gotta say, you probably would regret that long term. Especially for a two player panel a tupperware box is going to flex, bend, wiggle and bulge like crazy when you are playing on it due to the larger open top surface area. It could be a funny temporary step, but if you are going to the effort to buy all the nice two player stuff you'll want to put it on something more sturdy.

I used to make boxes for Japanese arcade panels (egret, versus city, astri city, blast city, etc). Sold them on SRK years ago. Would love to set up a new shop to make more, but I doubt I will get around to it. Kids!

A guy at my fight night is selling me a 2P panel for $20. :D

the plan right now is to use tupperware only beneath the buttons and levers, and putting some kind of feet on the panel. Something like this:

I'm trying out different spring weights. I put a 2lb spring in my fighting edges and a 3lb in my VLX (which also has a haybusa, because it's awesome). 2lbs is perfect. 3lbs is probably a bit much, but I'm going to play on it some more.

Also, I'm pretty pumped about just buying this panel.

I'm gonna fix it up and make a custom stick case for it. I've always loved the cyberlead look. It screams so modern arcade meets the 80s.

Whoa, damn good deal. What panel? Is it an Astro / Blast?
Yeah, something like that, he's bringing in a buttload of them Saturday and I'm picking out one i like. Will post pics then!

Nice! I couldn't resist when I saw it as I've wanted just the panel for sometime. I was gonna buy the whole arcade panel at one point a year or two ago from someone else but I realized that it'd be huge. So I'm thinking of maybe making or commissioning work to make a similar styled casing with the area for game move list/control prints.

Just don't know who's the best in the custom stick making business these days.

Thats a bit disheartening, but I had a feeling this may be the case. I'll see what I can dig up on a turbo module. Really hoping to try out some designs with some car paint stuff I've been using in armor making for a stick. However the turbo module will look super out of place. I may have to just get a super fine .mm brush and take a lot of time on my module at this rate.

So, any XB1 arcade sticks out or coming out that aren't expensive as hell? When I get an XB1 next year I'll be playing Killer Instinct a ton so I want a decent stick for that. Got my Hori EX2 stick for 360 and PC but I doubt that'd work on XB1.

There's not a lot of options in terms of XB1 sticks, and I still haven't heard of an updated USB module/circuit board that works 100% for modded sticks.

I got a RAP V4 last week after having picked up a used classic RAP EX back in July. I love them both! Hah, think I like the Hayabusa more than the JLF, but the Kuro buttons take a bit of getting used to after the buttery smooth and feathery light (I believe) Sanwa's in the EX.

Is the EX particularly well regarded? It's heavy and big as sin, but it also feels pretty indestructible. I'll probably end up selling it to a local used shop as I can't justify having two.

Hey guys, I'm looking to cut down on the number of sticks I have from too many to just a few. Please note that these prices are in USD and shipping is extra. I'm open to all offers on my items so please PM me.

Large version of the Hitbox Arcade dual system stick. Works both on Xbox 360 and PS3. Pretty easy to mod for the new systems.

I used it for a few months when UMvC3 came out and realized that I was just better with the regular stick in the end. I paid 260 for it when it was first released so I'm looking for around 200 USD, I've already sold the smaller Hitbox shown in the pic so please ignore that.

I also recorded a video showing all the buttons work and dual system capability here.

Next up is the Round 2 Xbox 360 version of the Madcatz Street Fighter 4 Tournament Edition stick. You get everything you see here and its in perfect condition. That includes the box, certificate, etc. Asking $175

Also selling the box set of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom with the Madcatz stick and game of course. Asking $75.
