Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign introduces DLC character Elfert.

Nostalgia.

Of course that is a factor, but I do think there is a noticeable difference between the two series' design. I'm a long time GG fan because of how it plays and looks. I found Blazblue to look so different that even after playing it I did not have an urge to buy it. Just to clarify, I'm not saying that Arc System is only allowed to make guilty gears and that I'll hate anything else from them. This is not the case. I love guilty gear's anime aesthetic because it is pretty unique looking even amidst other anime inspired games, imo. The designs in Blazblue were not to my liking and I didn't buy it. Some of these new characters evoke the same kind of feeling in me that Blazblue's characters did so I'm somewhat displeased with them. That's okay though. It's a few characters I don't like (yet) among many that I love and come european release I'm buying this quicker than you can say "let's rock".

ugh. go away.

Nah, I think only 2 added characters from the Arcade Edition which came out 10 months before the console release date is rather lacking.

I can read hiragana/katakana and some words. Far from fluent, but it's enough to piece some things together at times. There are a bunch of arcade mode translations floating around on youtube/vimeo.

Ramlethal states herself in arcade mode that she's just a pawn to make sure the big bomb goes off and has no worth otherwise. That was the first red flag for her going over to the "good guy" side. Then there's this which confirms it. The 4gamer article states that the story mode takes place after the arcade mode (had to use translate for that one but it was legible enough).

They still need a central adversary to frame the conflict around. Using an old character, especially one that seems to not be involved in the Senate's plans so far doesn't seem appropriate to me (talking about I-No here since she was mentioned before). I think Bedman is employed by the Senate IIRC but he isn't main villain material imo.

Still plenty of time for them to make more reveals so we'll find out eventually.

Ah right that's cool, although I reckon Bedman could turn out to be the main villain in the end.

I'm not sure I like her design, GG usually strayed from typical anime stereotypes. But I like GnR references. And with all the guns and that dress she reminds me of a westerns a little bit. She might have an interesting playstyle. Also her theme is called "Welcome to the jungle". I hope for some heavy stuff and that she is not as cute as she looks.

I still remember when Guilty Gear was badass, guess those days are over. For those who well quote me with a Zappa or Bridget picture. My point still stands, S-ko and Roger are some badass mofos.

I mean I could quote you with a May picture of her riding a dolphin, but I agree that the presentation of even the cute characters doesn't look as cool as it used to.

She looks like something from the mind of the man that gave us May and Dizzy.

It's not my favorite design, but I don't hate it. I'm really looking forward to seeing how her gunslinger playstyle will work.

yeah man, I remember the days of old school EDGY NON-ANIME GG. Now they have shit like loli girl with an anchor and dolphins (WTF), a doctor dude with a paper bag over his head (?!?!), and an animay girl in a pink dress with guns.

I bet you next they'll add some girl that is young but looks older and have a demon and angel wing motif. UGHHHHH

Or Zappa.

I need Rao-err Zappa to return!

She so perty.

But that's not Baiken.

But I'll play her anyways because I like her colors.

edit: forgot a very important word herp derp

I've never played a Guilty Gear before this weekend, but at PAX Prime I got to play Xrd. Outside of being completely lost on the mechanics of the game, I was absolutely in love with the graphics and presentation. This game is definitely on my radar and I am stoked for a release date.

Exhibit A: anime
Exhibit B: anime as well

I just want Guilty Gear to be more like the first than the second.

Yeah GG kinda missed the 80s musclehead anime fad by a couple decades

Just play Sol if you feel that way though. The whole point of different characters in fighting games is to appeal to a broad range of tastes and styles anyways

I'm honestly glad that they're going out of their way to bring in and design new characters rather than just feeling the obligation to fill up the roster with the older guys. This way lets them stretch their creative arm a bit and experiment with some more crazy character concepts. Accent Core +R isn't going anywhere if you want to play the characters you want to play. I'd rather play the game with more of a roster that I haven't been exposed to. And I seriously like the look of the new character, can't wait for gameplay footage to come out for her.

Gunslinger in a dress feels 90's to me. I don't know what you guys are talking about.

When I first read up on Elfert, the characters that immediately came to mind were the two ladies from Trigun and the main character from one of the Wild Arms games. These new images show a character who's style and demeanor fits in pretty well with a cast that includes Faust, May, and silly things like Slayer's wife Sharon FLYING AWAY LIKE A DEFLATED BALLOON. Seriously, that champagne attack. Look at it.

But seriously, great rebuttal.

She definitely looks like a Guilty Gear character. Lots of belts, somewhat late-90's anime female style (proto-moe, think Trigun or something with similar style of that era), a vague metal motif (guns & roses!!), etc.

People who claim otherwise probably think that all anime looks the same, and have this weird imaginary notion that Guilty Gear is somehow free of all anime tropes.

The character doesn't really scream guilty gear to me, even when I try to look at the singular components of her design. It's ok to me even if you think she does look like a Guilty Gear character. They are only opinions after all. Just because my opinion differs from your's doesn't mean that I think that there wasn't any anime tropes in Guilty Gear or that all anime looks the same. In fact I think that the anime look in some of the new designs are a little too different for Guilty Gear (the very basis of this argument). How can I think that all anime looks the same yet say that something here looks too different for my tastes when compared to the old characters, thus recognizing that there are different styles of anime?
