Do you know of any gaming podcast with black females/males ?

Woolie from Best Friends is awesome, as mentioned before, as is Satchbag's Goods. Evan Narcisse works at Kotaku, if that helps, that's all I got.

There's a podcast that's actually a AM radio show that has a black guy on the cast. I can't remember the name but I'm hoping someone on here knows what I'm talking about--I found them on GAF, I'm guessing one of them is a member.

But the production value was definitely like a radio show. Damn, I wish I could remember the name, I miss their show. :(

Edit: Fuck, I just remembered. It's In Game Chat

It would be great if someone made a wiki for gaming podcasts that included information about gender, race and sexual preferences- to many people the phenotype is an important qualification.

You know, for equality!
You're going to snark elsewhere.

SuperBestFriendCast is awesome!

Though I've been told by some listeners it might be tough to understand them without having seen their videos first, since they don't really introduce themselves outside of the first podcast. But they're really awesome and Woolie is super cool.

There is a black female podcast called the ElectricSistaHood which used to be on the same network as Derrick and they're still chugging along but I haven't given it a listen for a while but it was worth a listen when I listened back in the day.

I used to be on a gaming podcast with a black chick. She was on for a good while but quit eventually. And now the show itself is on hiatus. She was really good on it, though.

And I know GAF member BlackBanditSho was doing a podcast but I don't know if he's still doing it or what.

No big name podcasts I can think of for you, though.

A lot of times when we say people the first thing that comes to mind are men not women so I wanted people to think about women also.
To me it sounded more like you were trying to exclude people who don't identify as either—just something to think about.

I didn't come looking for a show to pick up, but this one looks really good. I'm going to give it a shot despite not having enough time in the week to listen to all the shows I do now.

It doesn't seem like an odd request. And I think it's an issue that we don't have more prominent black gaming personalities (and we'll ignore the damage Hip Hop Gamer does).

It's one of those things that you don't think of as an adult, but when you're younger it's always a subliminal influence of seeing what people who look like you do. I won't pretend to understand what it's like to belong to a group that has been marginalized as much as the black community in America, but I think it's hugely important that children of all races can see themselves represented in many fields and aspects. We've come a long way in race issues with people like Neil Tyson and Obama (even if you don't like his politics, how many young black children will see him and say 'I can be president, or senator') being at the forefront of media, it is only logical that someone of color would want to see themselves represented in the hobby they love.

And quarter water is a class term, not a race term.

I second this entire post.

Where I live, everyone gets treated the same, I didn't mean to offend you or anything, it just genuinely seemed like an odd request, because to me, everyone's the same, so it doesnt matter what race they are.

You know, I came in here to type the exact same question you did. It shouldn't matter what race they are. But, I've come to accept that since I'm not black, I won't really understand it. I don't go around saying, "Hey, where are all the Mexicans?" People experience different things.

I see where your question came from, and I just wanted you to know that.

For me its vice versa.I never cared as a kid there never was a choice, it was the status quo.
Now I see more diversity than ever.
Now there is a choice.

But yes, really important for kids, more than it is for me.

Wasn't there a guy on one of the more recent episodes of 8-4 Play? He's certainly not a regular though.

@SCOTTPOPPULAR
He's a tournament organiser for Final Round and kinda into the FGC. A rather smooth fellow.

well said.

in retrospect, it did kind of suck having apu from simpsons be the only brown person i saw in media for a while.

Thanks.

Again, I'm sorry if I've offended anyone, it wasn't my intention at all.

Edit: And to the people who are saying it isn't an odd request, I hope you dont think that I think that having black (or whatever race) gaming personalities is odd, because I don't.
I was wondering why the OP was specifically looking for them because to me it doesnt matter what race someone is, if they make a good podcast or whatever, their race is irreveleant to me.

I'll concede that there may have been no malice at all in his question, but pretty much every time there's a "Do you know of any black (something game related)" thread on the board, it immediately gets shit up with people not just asking why it matters, but denying the importance of having it at all. Goes that way for women/female (something game related) threads too. If you wanted to start a "where are the Mexican (game related thing)" thread, I'd be in there too with some of the stuff I know about, because I find out about a lot of diverse gaming circles.

It's become a sore nerve around Gaf, a place with admitted Stormfronters/redpillers

Brown is such an ambiguous term. I assume you mean Indian? I wish I could refute your point, but in Nerd-ish culture I can't think of many examples. Really all that came to mind was Abed from Community, then I made the connection that he was Pakistani and therefore culturally nothing like someone from India.

Thanks.

I certainly didn't take it that way, and I hope no one else did either. Asking questions and seeking understanding of others views is always a-ok in my book. Also your post came across as humanist to me (people are people) and that's never a bad thing.

I had to search what a "redpiller" is. Where do these crazy labels come from.

That sucks. I guess I haven't been paying much attention to it.

Gamer Tag Radio has the hip hop vibe to it and one of the hosts is African american

But you should listen to the podcast because it's really good, not because the color of someone's skin

They been around forever and get great interviews with devs.

They had the guys who made kinnect on there once and Paris was like 'yeah I unplugged that thing it doesn't work for me could you make it more consistent "

They don't hold back

Had great Phil Spencer and COD advanced warfare interview too

Mike Ross isn't really a podcaster, but he has a really fun YouTube series with Gootecks (who is Korean-American?) where they play Street Fighter and yell at each other.

Half Chinese, Half Mexican; American.

i used brown specifically because it's ambiguous. while you are correct that there a lot of differences between india, pakistan, sri lanka, etc i don't think american audiences divy their populaces up like that. and for a kid to see a positive character who even just looks like themself, that's enough.

honestly anything is better than the office space it dude, the guy from the big bang theory, apu, etc.

stuff like that is tough to shake, culturally speaking. luckily i think abed, tom haverford, and kumar are a lot better than what i saw so i think things are getting better.

There's the black fighting game dude on 8-4 every now and then (sorry I can't remember his name) he seems cool. Also ngai on out of the game.

I think if any community does a great job of being diverse it's fighting games.

I wish we were more educated about the differences of other cultures. I almost died of embarrassment when I was in a store with my aunt and she asked a man who was a Sikh if he attended services at the local Mosque.

As a black guy I hate hip hop gamer. Its not even him its that he perpetuates an idea for people.

I've never liked him for the same reason. I've often wondered if he does it out of satire, but I guess after this long I have to assume not.

Being kinda into the FGC is an understatement. He is and remains one of the organizers and proponent of the longest running Fighting Game tournament in the USA as well as one of the king pins of the console fighting game scene(offline I guess) in Japan. He's been in podcasts for years and his stories on SRK are and remain legendary.

So yea I second Scottpoppular

Tho I'm aware it's possible you were being sarcastic.

Good question, I haven't listened to a podcast consistently in years, maybe I just need different perspectives. Subbing for suggestions.

Ol' quarter waters... this thread brings back memories, but like someone said it's more class than race or even location. I'm not from an urban area at all but I remember these in certain stores.

Does Mike Ross and Cross Counter TV count?

I'm sure Mike Ross and Gootecks still does podcasts, or at least video casts.

Edit: Beaten.

Not sarcastic, just didn't want to fellate him to much but yes, legendary it a good choice. Now if he could be more online as well instead of just B/W Tokyo.
