Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

Many VR modes in games are stupidly, stupidly demanding. Like, to play a game at 1080p/75fps, you're really having to power the game at 1500p with a peak of 90fps(to keep it so it never drops below 75).

I've pretty much decided to wait until CV1 is out (what, 12-15 months from now?) before building my gaming PC. I'll get a lot more bang for my buck by then and it'll be clear whether CV1 is actually everything it's promised to be. Project Cars will be a year old by then too so there should be some expansions out and bug fixes/updates firmly in place.

My 360/PS3 backlog and laptop racing sims should keep me entertained until then, but the wait will still be pretty torturous.

Well, with CV1 you'll probably need to run games at ~1800p (1440p screen + additional size to compensate for distortion) 120 FPS average (to keep a consistent 90 Hz).

Just get used to the idea that you won't get the same level of fidelity in VR.

Damn it i can't wait...

InsideSimRacing (youtube) have some PS4 footage iirc. Theres some loss in IQ but its still nice.

Of course, still cool. Wonder if it will look better than Drive Club. It's had a lot more developer time and such but the other is an exclusive. Thanks

Any other confirmation on release date? I know sites are reporting the UK to release Nov 21st. Here in the states, depending on the retailer, it's still Nov 30th or 2015/TBA. One local retailer removed it from the their system, back to announcement TBD.
Is this pulled from NA for consoles?

I loved that OR DK2 example. The graphics are poor, but I loved the way the cars got damaged and then the cars had to pit in. It just feels like the complete racer.

Oh and by the way, I've got OR DK2 at work and it's still giving me sim sickness. lot better than the original release though . . . .

That's the feeling I get from what I've seen of pCARS. I don't know if it's one of the benefits of the WMD process or not, but everything that everyone seems to want from a racing sim seems to have been thought of. I just hope it all gels together to make for a superb game.

It's a good thing that the immersion of VR compensates having to turn down a few sliders. In most cases, it's better to disable post-processing effects and motion blur..and it'll even net you some good performance gains.

It almost feels like what a new TOCA game would be, at least in some parts of it.
...if Codies weren't so adamant in appealing to casual gamers :/

Does anyone know if Sony will do a bundle for this? I know they're doing one for DC, but I'm not convinced by it just yet and don't want to spunk my hard-earned on that when this baby is going to keep me busy for the rest of the generation . . .

Man, seeing the DK2 videos makes me even sadder I missed the original funding to get in on this game. I have a Fanatec setup, DK2, decently beefy rig (i5-3570k, R9 290 OC, 16Gb, SSD) and so far this game (outside of LFS) is the best iteration with OR support ... and it's the one I can't get into!

"Patience flyinpiranha ... " says everybody.
"Patience are for doctors who can't spell" I say!

Isn't Grid Autosport basically a new TOCA?

I only ever played TOCA 3, but it never struck me as a sim game, necessarily.

TOCA was never a true sim in the vein of top of the class PC sims, but from what I've seen, Grid Autosport is a simcade with a more motorsport-like career structure.

Now that this has been given a release date for later this year I was wondering if those of you who have backed this title had any info on whether Slightly Mad have any intention of releasing a demo prior to release..?

I wouldn't count on it. They're tight on time. Very tight, indeed, to the point where some features will have to wait to be pached in at a later time (for example, safety car).

Edit: BTW, OT. I've ordered a G27 and I'll gladly accept any advice abour racing using three pedals. For the time being I will start using my right foot on the two pedals of the DFGT to get some practice. Any suggestion?

The clutch is the one on the left.
:P

You'll love playing 'stick'. Adds a whole new layer of control. I couldn't get on with the G27 shifter though, found it too floppy and imprecise. It's one of the reasons I sold the G27 and bought a GT2.

Force yourself to learn heel-toeing, if you're anything like me it's going to suck pretty bad at first and you'll probably end up concentrating so much on the shifting while breaking that you'll mess up most corners, but when you get better and it and you don't have to think about what you're doing it's going to be (in my opinion) one the most rewarding and "involving" things you can do in sim racing.

The feeling you get when you pass someone under brakes while working all three pedals simultaneously and nailing the corner is really something else.

I personally used a sequential at first to get it right but honestly I think you're better off learning the H-gate right away.

Hi guys,

Just bought a OR DK2 and the guy who sold it to me would like to sell me Project Cars too...

Is there a way for him to give away his code to me?

I really want to try that beast on a DK2!

Tx in advance.

It is attached to his Steam account, so probably no.

Are the preorder DLC and if the investors would get it ever resolved? I'm the full tier on PCARS so wouldn't want to have to buy a second copy just to get the exclusive cars.

You'd think we would, given we're basically the ultimate preorder holders. But I think it's only for the PC version though, I'd guess.

Wouldn't know for sure, haven't been to the forums in forever.

Okay, I have few questions and WMD is so cluttered that I will appreciate answer or direction to the proper topic, PM is perfectly acceptable because it is basically still a WMD-releated info:

1) Has SMS disclosed details about the funders getting a free version of the game? I have never seen any option for that yet (I am Senior Member)?

2) Can we choose the version for the "free game"? For example, I would like to get a PS4 version.

3) What is the situation related to Limited Edition and funders?

Thank you guys in advance.

I'm on weekly updates however theres been 3 massive updates in the past 4 days. Anyone else having this issue?

Any word on a better SLI profile? I've used the latest homebrew one on the forums that released this year in July iirc but it doesn't really add much more fps. :|

Has anyone from GAF gone hands on with the game at E3 or Gamescom? What's your opinion? How was the handling of cars? Was it more towards NFS:Shift? And about the visuals?

Why are these people releasing the steam version at a later date? I saw in a interview where a dev said it was coming out on pc,ps4,xbox one on November and on steam at a later time... Makes no sense.

Can you tune up cars in this? Like bigger turbos, exhausts etc?

You can tune for better performance but there are no upgrades.

Actually from my press release stuffs it says the same date;

BANDAI NAMCO Games America Inc. and Slightly Mad Studios today can confirm that Project CARS will ship on November 18, 2014 for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PC across the Americas. Project CARS for the Wii U™ system will be available in 2015

Played this for the first time at E3 on PS4. Game was graphically beautiful but was so difficult to control. I am not a sim guy though. And it wasn't hooked up to a steering wheel so I was using a dual shock. Controlling a car in Driveclub and Forza Horizons was a lot easier. I haven't played Shift but I own Rivals and it was a totally different experience. Sim vs Arcade.

Hmm, so Project Cars racing handling feels more towards Gran Turismo huh? Speaking of driveclub(not the right thread to post the comment) did you find Driveclub fun to play with the controller?
