Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Guys.

I want to predict DLC, assuming this is the final roster.

Anyone think we'll see two packs of DLC? I'm thinking a Veterans Pack and a Newcomers pack, 2 characters each

VP: Ice Climbers and Lucas

NP: Dixie Kong and Chorus Kids

What say you, GAF?

Sorry Ridley and Snake fans

I feel like there'll be more than four. I'm guessing there'll be enough to make an Amiibo set-which means as many as twelve (which is probably way too hopeful), but at least 5 or 6.

DLC ideas:
Chilly Challengers Pack (Ice-based) - includes Ice Climbers (vet) and Anthony Higgs/Rundas (newcomer) along with a Tropical Freeze stage
Teamwork Pack - includes Ice Climbers (vet) and Chorus Kids
... That's about it.

For top 5 newcomer suggestions (IIRC, they're the only ones that are ranked) I'm expecting Ridley to be first just thanks to how much discussion there is about the big purple dragon.
The Captain said:
Instead of good looking (and accurate) feathered dinosaurs, we get weird scaly faces and bodies with plumes sticking out in various places. When making a good feathered dinosaur, you should start the same way you would a bird. Taking a naked dinosaur, then tarring and feathering it is a bad idea.
I see. Still, the first two get it closer than most depictions of Deinonychosaurids.

Its always weird to me when people suggest one off Metroid characters like Anthony and Rundas when Ridley of all people can't even make it in.

Indeed, the five newcomers next week are the most voted. So, keep in mind, you may see characters that have been confirmed for Smash 4.

Anthony was the best part of Other M.
Needs to become more prominent in the Metroid Universe.
Plus a black character for Smash sure would be nice.

Who else is there besides him and Doc who could realistically fill that void?

Omg. That would be WAY too dreamy. Stay realistic, man, lol. I'm even leading towards the fact that we might not even get ANY DLC 0_o

Probably because most believe Ridley isn't playable due to being difficult to implement, not because a Metroid newcomer is fundamentally impossible. In actuality, both are true.

We have Mario, we have Link. We have Kirby and Donkeykong. The metroid rep we need is neither Ridley nor Anthony! We need playable Metroid!

Sakurai's just the creative genious to give us the
TERRIBLE
addition! :D

If it could incorporate enough of the Metroid life cycle, that'd be perfect. Though becoming a Queen Metroid would be best left to a final smash, they'd be much too big otherwise.

Or we could just get Metroid Prime.

One other thing I noticed, while we're talking about the character select screen...

First of all, look at the evolution of the 3DS screen - one constant is that the bottom row is always smaller than the first few, and that the character order is always consistent. The CSS for the 3DS version has a "reverse pyramid" shape and always has. Now, while we're looking at odd shapes...

The Wii U demo screen has its own odd shape to it - the top row is slightly smaller than the middle one, and the bottom row is even smaller. I think we can figure the general shape of the final screen by using that shape. My prediction? The top row will have 12 icon, followed by two rows of 13, and the bottom row of 11. I'd say it would look something like this...

...but honestly I'm at a loss here. The ordering seems so haphazard. Why is Greninja before Pikachu? Why is Villager up near the top (between Zelda and Kid Icarus) while Olimar, Little Mac, and Wii Fit Trainer are at the very end? Where do the new clones fit? There's no place to fit a "Clone Corner" with the whole Greninja issue, but it'd be weird if it was just on the 3DS.

Anyone else been trying to piece the whole thing together? Frankly I'm stumped.
I was trying to put together the Wii U character select screen earlier and I just gave up due to Greninja being listed before Pikachu. It makes no sense. The 3DS version clearly follows the Brawl system of inserting secret characters in where they belong and shifting the others over, it's consistent in this regard from the E3 demo all the way to the final leaked roster. But I really can't rectify the Wii U's arrangement that way, and for only one reason--Greninja. Something's up with the Wii U's character select screen that we don't know yet.

Either that we might get few more characters or DLC button which would placed after Lucina which would push Greninja into Pokemon group. Or it's possible that we are getting few more characters for Wii U when 3DS is going to get DLC or Timed Characters. Yeah, I can see where both of you came from.

How could you forget Chibi Robo?

As a dinosaur fan, I feel obligated to mention Fossil Fighters, but I would be completely okay with missing things like this:

I don't mind to see Fossil Fighter reference in Smash! :)

Who's character reveal was everyone's favorite? It doesn't necessarily have to be the reveal trailer, but Internet reactions
and meltdowns.

For me, it's Rosalina and Luma. Galaxy is my favorite, most nostalgic game of all time and seeing her and Luma made me :').
Personally, Shulk's, but mostly because I got really huge into Xenoblade over the course of this wild ride we call Picture of the Day. As such, seeing the iconic imagery of Bionis' Leg, hearing all the British accents I'd grown to love over my ~100 hour playtime, seeing my personal favorite character to play as get center stage, seeing that the Chain Attack mechanic was the Final Smash... nailed every aspect I could ever dream of, save one (guess now isn't Reyn Time after all :( ).

Although for community-wide reactions, Robin/Lucina are tops. Their reveal changed everything. No longer were we beholden to leaks - we could dream as big as our hearts desired. (Not as big as our brains desired, naturally...)

Interesting thing from Walmart
Blue version as well?

I was gonna say "holy crap, English version of Smash two weeks early?", but now people are asserting that the game's not included (despite the ad not saying anything to that effect; is it on the Walmart website or something?).

Game-changer if the game was included...

Could the metroid evolve into a new form after every kill? Will Omega Metroid fit in this?

I'd highly doubt it. This Smash has the most merchandising of any Smash in the series before-hell, arguably more than most Nintendo games in general. We've got two versions, limited edition systems, a soundtrack, first party controllers, third party controllers, strategy guides, and, of course, Amiibos. So I feel like it's pretty damn likely they'll take that a step further with DLC.
I'm guessing for Amiibos, we'll see five batches:
Batch 1: Release (12)
Batch 2: February/March: 12 more fighters
Batch 3: May/June: 12 more fighters
Batch 4: August/September: 12 more fighters, most of which are secret characters
Batch 5: November/December 2015: The DLC fighters.

I'd also guess we'll see limited edition ones in between, specifically popular alt costumes (Hoodie Mac, Fire Mario) and Miis (like maybe a Reggie Mii or something-you know, something fans would want, but that kids wouldn't go out and buy).

If the game was included, it would cost $220.

The same thing happened last year with Pokemon XY; 2 LE systems released at regular price, without a game, 2 weeks before launch.

Could the metroid evolve into a new form after every kill? Will Omega Metroid fit in this?

Limiting it by stock would be too arbitrary, and would make the character unusable in certain modes. Perhaps tying the different forms to an energy-draining mechanic could work, where damage dealt (perhaps only with certain moves) correlates directly to their progressive evolution?

I see. Still, the first two get it closer than most depictions of Deinonychosaurids.

For me, it's mostly a problem of not going far enough. Generally, people don't like feathered dinosaurs (probably after years of seeing stuff like this instead of this), so people in media tend to go for slight feathering so they can seem progressive and accurate while still maintaining several reptilian features.
For example, the recent Walking With Dinosaurs film created this for Hesperonychus. It's such a shame that they tried but still stuck with things like the stupid lizard face instead of going all-out.
And then the upcoming Jurassic World isn't even trying (going against the heritage of the original film, which was incredibly progressive in changing the public perception of dinosaurs).

That's why I think the weird glued on feathers of Fossil Fighters don't work; they try but only go halfway.
If anyone from the series makes it in though, it's the mascot:

The idea of a playable Metroid in the usual larva form is interesting, but the main issue is that larval Metroids lack arms. Or tentacles. Or vines. Or psychic powers. Or any way to easily grab items. It'd be a struggle to do it. If it could be done, a playable Metroid would be up there with Ridley as the best way to represent the series.

The only other options are Metroid Prime (Who I've suggested before) or another form of Metroid, and I don't think an Omega Metroid is near as iconic or cool as the larva.

Reposting this for what I'd like in a Metroid Prime moveset

Potentially dumb question: What stages ever came out of that big 3DS leak that weren't already known? The only one I ever bothered to look at was Magicant. Was there anything else?

Was this posted?

Looks like only 2 of them got the job.

This picture doesn't just hurt my heart. It hurts... my soul.

Plus, I'm willing to bet Wario's moveset isn't changed, ignoring both of his own franchises for the most part just to make him "the gross guy." So really, Captain Falcon and Pac-Man were the only ones treated justly, even though I deeply want that entire line-up in.

Sakurai, if you're reading this, I will go to almost any depth for Ridley, Wonder Red, and Snake. Even there. Just saying.

Mainly a bunch of returning stages (WarioWare, Inc., Distant Planet, Mushroomy Kingdom, etc.) and some sort of SNES/GBA F-Zero stage. I can't remember if there were any other new ones.
