Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

I have to say so far, in terms of alts, I'm most surprised at the lack of Masked DeDeDe. Seemed like a no-brainer.

Honestly I'm more surprised by Dry Bowser's absence. Modders did it, and the character has been around since New Super Mario Bros., and has since appeared in Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 8, and Mario Kart Wii.

So THAT'S the reason I don't like Domino's Pizza, it all makes sense

Yeah, having someone dance all over your pizza as an integral part of their cooking process seems extremely sketchy to me as well.

Honestly I'm more surprised by Dry Bowser's absence. Modders did it, and the character has been around since New Super Mario Bros., and has since appeared in Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 8, and Mario Kart Wii.

Dry Bowser's not in? Well, looks like Masked DeDeDe is now the second most-obvious alt absence. Dry Bowser would've been so hype. But, as Mario Kart has shown, he'll probably be DLC. :^P

Is it wrong if I'd be all over an alt costume pack for this game? It feels wrong.

Hold B instead of Press B.
Interesting definitely looks like a case where those who just want to mess around aren't going to like him. But those who get the B down are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Yeah, I kind of figured it was hold b to cycle, release when you get what you want

Such backwards thinking.

Lets go to Ultimate Street Fighter IV If you take out all shoto except ryu you're left with 37 characters instead of 44. That's 7 less characters in total. 7 different styles of play even though they come from the same humble beginnings.

Wolf plays nothing like Fox, same thing with Falco. If you try to play them all the same you'll find your success to be sorely lacking.

Clones aren't bad, and it's silly how ONLY the Smash fandom has a huge problem with them.

It's kinda embarrassing
.

Yeah I really don't get it and its super embarrassing :/

There's this other thing called "project management". I heard it's pretty helpful, and might be a useful tool in freeing up the time and resources needed to slot in unique characters that define the franchise.

LOL the bitterness is real :P

Look, I'm sincerely sorry you're favorite (?) character got cut, the Ice Climbers were good people. However, losing characters, even unique ones, between sequels in a fighting game series isn't a new thing. The team had priorities, they had a budget, they had a ship date. There's no conspiracy or ineptitude at play here - some dudes just don't make it :(

I agree. At the same time, I think the clone choices were kind of poor. For instance, I would've been more excited for Alph as a clone rather than Dr. Mario.

Problem is the I felt that Pikmin is the main character in the game. So it wouldn't make sense for me at least.

Me too, though I was hoping for a Final Smash. :(

Well, DDD did get a new final smash didn't he? And the person reporting from the Japanese demo said he didn't get a good look at the first half of the animation, right? *wink wink nudge nudge*

;_;

Another thing I'm shocked about is the lack of Rock Pikmin. We haven't seen Olimar's custom specials yet right? Could there feasibly be a neutral special that replaces Purples with Rocks or something?

I found one of Olimar's alts.

There are a lot of little "isms" like this that you only get with exposure to the Smash fandom versus other fighting game rosters. Hell even other crossover fighters don't get scutinized and cause weird hangups for people like this. I was there for the Marvel to Ultimate Marvel transition somewhat sad because there was no Megaman in Ultimate (or even vanilla) and I was also there for people getting upset because "trenchcoat teleporters" were all the best, but that doesn't compare to some of the stuff here.

Smash attracts people other than fighting game fans. I'm guessing that's why there are clone complaints.

I'm not amongst the clone or cut complainers, but I will say I personally haven't played a round of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, or any other fighting game in my life aside from Smash Brothers. So Smash definitely does attract that crowd
because I am one of them.

so has the Dalmatian ever appeared in Smash Bros.? Either Nintendogs assist trophy or stage background? Just curious...

Not sure. I'm curious though: Has the Nintendog assist trophy and the Nintendogs in the background of the Playroom remained constant throughout all the gameplay videos? It'd be pretty a pretty neat detail if there were different breeds that switched randomly.

I think there are clone complaints because Smash is drawing from pre-existing material, so a clone comes across as taking a place of the character they wanted for a lot of people.

Though, to clarify, I have no issue with clones.

So am I. I'm also a clone complainer.

I don't think it's a conspiracy. I'm just tired of people making excuses for Sakurai when he's proven himself to be inept and incapable. It's easy to say characters get cut all the time, but Ice Climbers are the oldest non-clone in the series to get the axe.

Well yeah. Its just one of my favorite mini story lines is Gen's quest for dying in a Street Fight. Imagine if he met Oro in one, or Oro fought Akuma in one ending....

Edit: Also, clones is a time honored tradition in Smash, and fighting games in general. They're the basis of creating offshoots of well established characters and can turn in really interesting ways.

You couldn't have Falco without Fox, Luigi without Mario, etc.

If and when Smash 6 comes out, Lucina will be different enough from Marth like Falco became in Brawl that she'll be her own character in her own right.

Oro vs Gouki? Like Vega (Dictator) and Gouken, Shun Goku Satsu, they both die, and bring back cause fuck off :p Most fan's fan fiction are way better than SF plot overall.
BTW, I don't like Oro's design but he had a good background.

Fox : Landmaster
Falco : Landmaster
Wolf : guess what? Landmaster

THIS is embarrassing.

And don't talk about shoto, there is more differences between Ryu and Ken than Fox, Falco and Wolf. I will not talk about Gouki, Sakura, Sean, Evil Ryu, Gouken, Oni ... Its like night and day.

Clones in Smash are just a way too make the roster look bigger, stop making clones, and take the time to revamp chars like Ganondorf, Toon Link, Donkey Kong... I like clones but I think there is enough veteran character who deserve a proper moveset.

I do remember people having some really weird hangups about Marvel's roster. I specifically remember someone equating Spidey and Cap to shotoclones on the level of Ken and Sakura.

That, and all of the "Where's Venom/Gambit/*insertMvC2veteranhere*/etc." complaints.

"Too many sword users" is probably my favorite nonsensical Smash roster gripe, though.

I remember a lot of complaints over no Gene in Ultimate, and no Cyclops/Venom in MvC3 in addition to the MM uproar.

I'm pretty indifferent to that 4th alt, but the SMB1 alt! Woooo that would be the greatest.

I know the 4th alt is a real one in the game, but what is it referencing? A bit odd that it's the only Mario costume (so far in Smash 4) without a reference...

Ehh... some of the clones are more similar to their counterparts than others. For instance, I'd say the difference between Mario and Luigi would be more on par with Ryu and Ken. (even though a SF character is much more complex than Smash's)

However, comparing Pit and Dark Pit (assuming he is a straight up clone) is basically comparing Wolverine and bone claw Wolverine.

I'm not too sure. Thinking about it as I type, it may be from SMB2 USA?

edit: ^lol nevermind!^
