Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

No, I understand Ganon was added at the last minute. I am saying he was added at the last minute because Sakurai didn't find a style he wanted to use him for.
Okay, I see what you meant.
He could've just put him into Melee because he was a popular character with a similar build to Falcon and wouldn't look *that* weird with his moveset, then by Brawl/SSB4 felt the moveset was too popular to justify cutting. Doesn't mean he doesn't think he could be a unique fighter, just the pro's don't outweigh the con's for decloning him at the moment.
Was Pit's moveset unpopular? Because he just got two of his special moves completely changed.

I'd be very impressed if someone could come up with 12 clone ideas for Mr. Game & Watch, let alone 120. :P

But seriously, I would love this roster so much more if they threw in

Mr. L as Luigi clone
Daisy as Peach clone
Dry Bowser as Bowser clone
Funky Kong as DK clone
Classic Wario as Wario clone
Captain Syrup as Link clone
Boshi as Yoshi clone
Pichu as Pikachu clone
Fierce Deity Link as Link clone
Hilda as Zelda clone
Galactica Knight as Meta Knight clone
Roy as Ike clone
Tharja as Robin clone
Doc Louis as Little Mac clone
Medusa as Palutena clone
Paula as Ness clone
Alph as Olimar clone
Black Shadow as Captain Falcon clone
Sami as Snake clone
Metal Sonic as Sonic clone
Proto Man as Mega Man clone
Ms. Pac-Man as Pac-Man clone

Would everyone legitimately be fuming at this?
You are kidding me. A few days ago, you were mad about the idea that Doc Louis could be a Little Mac clone.

Why couldn't it have just been time constraints? That's why we got 6 clones in the first place instead of Dedede. The famitsu article that talked about this way back when also mentioned they briefly considered making Wario a slower Mario clone but held off since they didn't think it'd go over with fans well.

I believe I heard it was because he thought Wario deserved better.
Which is probably the best evidence against Ganondorf ever getting decloned.

There's this other thing called "project management". I heard it's pretty helpful, and might be a useful tool in freeing up the time and resources needed to slot in unique characters that define the franchise.

Right. Sakurai did that. He slotted time and resources for all the characters. Then, the leftover time wasn't enough to bring back ALL of the veterans, but it was enough to make a few clones, so why not? Better some clones than no clones.

So much to talk about, but my mind is racing in EVERY direction. Holy shit @ the Yoshi buffs though, those really stand out in my mind. Hearing that Pit is a better "jack of all trades" is so good even if arrow looping was my PhD in Brawl/Project M. At least custom moves are available right there on the CSS (YEAAAAAAAAAAAAA BOI) and I can play with different versions of his arrow special on top of his standard capability.

Marth stuff is still so weird to hear about though. Zipzo's painting a scary picture of the Hero King, but D1 continues to refute things with his own experiences and the "Day Urley Clause" (never judge characters overall viability by trade show experience alone).

PALU-FUCKING-TENA THOOOOOOOOO. This chick is going to be the GREATEST.

Also, Falcon is back in a big way it sounds. The Knee landing thing is still hilarious to me but if everything else holds true (faster Falcon Punch, Falcon Kick recovery is back, aerials back to Melee levels), he's another returning champion.

Are we doing shoulds?

Dark Samus over Dr. Mario
Medusa over Dark Pit
Lucina
Impa
Dixie Kong
(dunno who I'd put here)

Metroid and DK finally get their well deserved 3rd character, Kid Icarus gets their classic trio (and Smash gets a female villain), Zelda gets a newcomer after 13 years, Lucina stays because I respect the fan base even if I still think she's overrated.

Those two would be just as bad as Ganondorf for me.

I remember people complaining his side-B was spammy, but I take it his changes were more to bring him in line with Uprising. For all we know Dark Pit inherited his Brawl moveset.

Would love these to be a part of Mario's colors. Someone has got to check on the little guy.

Nah, nah. Too much sense. We need 30 Mario clones and 90 G&W clones.

I also nominate Sanic for a clone/alt

Pit's moveset had a lot of improvising though. Since Sakurai was building from scratch, and since Pit had a huge upgrade from OM&M to Uprising, it only makes sense.

Ganondorf's last real role was almost a decade ago, and he didn't do that much to differentiate himself from what he does in Smash

I would have been fine with Dark Samus as a clone of Samus. It's not like Dark Samus is ever going to have a chance at being playable again in the future, so better clone than never.

That was the one move I hated, people I knew would pretend that's his only move

That last costume has some serious jaundice.

Also you guys need to eat more local pizza.

There is no such thing as local pizza where I live :/

Ganondorf's last real role was wielding a sword. I'm not sure how you can say it's not much differentiated from his exclusively hand-to-hand Smash moveset.

Huh... :(

The sad truth is that you're right. Unlike Mother Brain and Ridley, I doubt she's going to be brought back to life for another Metroid in the future.

So that means it will be passed up.

We don't really know what the situation is right now. I'm just saying that if he still has Warlock Punch as his default I am guessing that via custom moves there's a version that makes it more of a projectile. The custom specials are part of this game and they offer a good opportunity to vary the clones even more.

Custom Warlock Punches:

Moves forward and does less damage
Grounds enemies instead of knocking them away

none of the custom moves so far have suggested that it'd be so different as to add a whole new custom effect to it.

Huh... :(

We saw Ganondorf doing very hand-to-hand things in TP. I'm not talking about Pit using a different attack style here and there I'm referring to his entire concept being switched up.

I wouldn't bet on it. Ganondorf will have the exact same customs as Falcon.

Even if he doesn't, it's not like I'll be able to use them.

You guys might be right but I'll take the wait and see approach. Those clones still have their own character slots rather than being alternates like Alph. I would be very surprised if their custom specials are exactly the same.

Pit had some pretty cool stuff in Brawl (f-air - light arrow - f-air carries existed in Brawl before they became as godly as they did in Project M), but his low KO power (seriously, he POURS on damage with all the multi-hit moves he has but had only f-smash to reliably KO with) really fucked him over. Also everyone hated his Side Special. :lol

Those two would be just as bad as Ganondorf for me.

I'd honestly take it though just because of how many different things get offered (new Metroid, Zelda, DK faces, a KI figure with history given a second chance at reaching Uprising levels of characterization + an alt take on one of the better new move sets [Medusa is to Hyper Offense as Palutena is to Bulky Offense? shoutouts to Smogon metas]
+ Cree Summer's voice
along with the already established Lucina.)

That last color would seriously make me keep Mario in my rotation.

From weinhoffer

Hold B instead of Press B.
Interesting definitely looks like a case where those who just want to mess around aren't going to like him. But those who get the B down are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

______

Has there been any news on link in terms of how he plays?
A friend wants to know and I lost the link. (LOL pun not intended)
