Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Wasn't Charizards final smash confirmed in the April direct? Mega Charizard, I'm pretty sure.

People are wondering about the animation itself of the transformation. Whether it includes a Pokemon Trainer cameo or if it's just the sphere appearing around the Pokemon and breaking. The Direct skipped the activation animation.

Still, I think if the Trainer had a cameo someone would have mentioned it, so it's probably just the sphere part of the animation, with no Mega Stone.

Yeah, my guess is that it's the same as Giga bowser (and little mac, too, right?)

Just the green ball of light so it can load the alternate character model.

So something I just thought of after the waves of info from yesterday. The guy playing the demo yesterday (D1's friend) who seemed well apt to brawl said that every chaingrab from brawl now has a set knockback, like DDD's down throw. And he said you can't chaingrab in smash 4. I think this is probably why ice climbers were cut, since in the past 2 games they had an insane chaingrabs, and a few infinites. Maybe they couldn't fix that and Sakurai didn't want any form of chaingrabbing.

However, they will be missed, as I always loved pro ice climbers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA6PJVxK2rM

Hmm... so I guess Robin only has 4 male and 4 female costumes? Since Villager and Wii Fit Trainer are only 4 and 4.

I'd be so disappointed if there's no purple-haired version.

Thought I'd gif my favourite part of that ad.

It would be relatively easy to fix. Just make every character grab immune after being released for a set number of frames. It could even be isolated to IC.

So Marth got "nerfed" via, system changes and changes to his overall reach and he STILL winds up godlike? (The idea of him being better than Brawl's Marth is so intriguing given all the complaints that were coming out of Zipso through the weekend.)

All hail the one true Hero King.
Imitators need not apply; haters are invited to continue hating

Also, when did Oric post the last veteran reveal? I missed it. Marth at 6th is surprising, but not at the same time.

If by any chance you come back to this thread before you play, here's a little advice.

PUT SHULK IN YOUR RESERVES BEFORE YOU GO BACK.

You'll thank me later.

I'm imagining his Japanese seiyuu trying to do a British accent now

This has been stated before, but if you stumble upon this before continuing play: IF HE ISN'T ALREADY, GET SHULK OUT OF YOUR PARTY NOW. If you do, you might not understand why I'm asserting this. If you don't, however, you'll understand full well why I'd suggested this, and regret it. Let's just say you don't want a party member that can only do chip damage in an upcoming boss fight.

Seize his destiny and change the future?
Oh, wow. Really? I haven't gone back to the palace yet, so I'll take your advice. If I put Shulk in reserves, which character do you recommend I play? And it sounds like you're recommending this since Shulk will only do minor damage against whatever's coming up next?

Man my hype level has gone through the roof in the last day ha ha. Oct 3rd needs to come sooner! Looking forward to checking out my brawl vets Marth and Ike, giving Fox a second chance now that wolf is MIA, and looking into Lucina, Palutena, Megaman and Dark Pit (well not confirmed yet) from the newcomers.

Dunban is pretty good as a player character.

I'd go with Dunban/Reyn/Riki in some order, since your only other party member aside from Shulk at the moment is Sharla.

If anything, keep Shulk in the party so the event can carry its weight for you.

I posted it Thursday night. Number 5 is coming tonight.

For real, I was worried when the first reactions came out; saying how Marth was horrible and whatnot. But now the hype is real, I love counter, and now that it's mad strong? Aw yeah son.

Ike feels pretty similar to his Brawl version, does have a faster run speed. (Relative to new speed I guess?) Ike just has color swaps, doesn't remember the color swaps.

Bowser, Charizard, Rosalina, and Palutena were the heaviest feeling characters.

Sonic has different shades of blue, a black, and white color option.

Seems to be getting off now. Says he's exhausted. What a guy for giving us all this great info! Is going to be streaming live with the JP launch so check it out.

Says he LOVES the feel of Smash 4. Speed is great and says that landing lag is truly not an issue as it is not a universal element.

EDIT: Yup, he's done. Video is being saved for anyone who wants to watch through the entirety of it.

Do you have a link to the video?

That really wouldn't be hard to fix. Just cut Nana (and give Popo a buff to compensate). Instead of "Ice Climbers", it would be just "Ice Climber". Or even "Popo". Nana could be an alt.

Hmmm, I find it weird that Dunban and Riki are not in Shulk's winner screen but Chrom is in Robin's and Doc Louis is in Little Mac's. I was thinking it was because there were different characters in his final smash but guess not.

I think it's because Chrom was the main character of his own game, and because so much of Awakening is about his relationship with Robin.

The Ridley discussions are never going to end until we get confirmation whether or not he's in the game.

If you don't like it, blame Sakurai.

Assuming they're supposed to be secret, I wonder how Bowser Jr, DHG, Dark Pit and Dr. Mario are unlocked.
Dark Pit: Beat a match with Pit while the stage is darkened by Togepi or Nightmare Wizard.

You're implying the Ridley discussions will end after we get confirmation.

Oh, nono, I understand that. What I mean is that they used Chrom in Robin's final smash and then used that model in Robin's winner screen, but they have Dunban and Riki's models for Shulk's final smash too but they didn't use them for Shulk's winner screen. Maybe it was too complicated to have 3 characters in one winner screen?

To unlock Dark Pit you have to get a hand cramp within the first 10 minutes of booting up the game.

Oh, I have a question that I bet just about anyone can answer. Are fighting bonuses back for Smash 4 after their absence in Brawl? Using those to analyze our habits was always one of my favorite elements of Melee.

I have this terrible suspicion that they're never coming back.

Apparently the are!

Schedule of Ridley discussions:
September 13th: Well maybe he's a secret character
September 15th: Well maybe he's DLC with the Wii U version
Early October: Well maybe he's a cut character, let's datamine the game
November: Well maybe he's a secret character on the Wii U version
Mid December: Well maybe he's a cut character on the Wii U version, let's datamine the game
2015-2020: Well maybe he'll be DLC
2020: He's gotta be in this version of Smash, guys.

No you won't.

You'll begin asking for Ridley DLC.
No, I won't. I will be too busy playing the game to care. If there is going to be any character DLC, it had already been decided, and it is what the team is working on right now since the game has shipped. My voice would have no effect on the situation.

Once again, Ridley is already in the game - the thing left undetermined is if he is a playable character or stage boss. And the latter has been heavily implied.

Marth has always struck me as a character that could never be anything less than decent based on his overall design. I was quietly looking through the list of things changed yesterday and realized that for how I play the character, the only things that really apply to me were not having crouch tilts out of running/dashes or a way to use spaced f-tilts with crouch cancelled dashes. Then I got those things anyway because lolshieldsaregodlike.

Everything else was workable for me, especially since I hardly use double fair (although Ken combos are great when I get them) and get that Smash 4 is different from Brawl/Project M is different from Melee.
