Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

I just don't get it, he hasn't had a hit in several centuries and was born in a period where medical research was more limited, but is there really any definitive proof that Mozart couldn't be alive today?

Mozart is immortal and forever young, he goes through plastic surgery and name changes every once in a while to keep it a secret
He's currently going under the guise of "Sakurai"

How would you all feel if the game came out, and one of the first sets of screenshots was someone unlocking Daisy, who uses Toadette as a shield and pulls up carrots instead of turnips

Gematsu is real, he knew Wii Fit Trainer was coming, and it was too unlikely of a character for it to have been a lucky guess.

That doesn't make Ash's statement right.

The same thing we always speculate about.

Which girl is best, if Ridley will be playable, and why Sakurai never ages.

But which girl is best if Ridley is playable? And which girl is best if Ridley isn't playable? Some really deep questions here. Gonna have to think on these for a while.

It's fun speculating unlock conditions

Unlocking Duck Hunt - Get X,000 points in Target Smash

(If Break the Targets were in, it'd be "complete every character's Break the Targets")

To unlock Lucina, win a match with female Robin's final smash. Ten matches later, she will challenge you.

Wario - Play 10 Coin matches

Calling it

Ganondorf - Complete classic mode with Link and Zelda

#boring
C'mon people, we need more ideas!

And hopefully not boring ones.

If Sakurai never ages, does that mean Smash discussions never age?
I mean, fuck, we've been discussing Ridley chances for over a decade now.

I would legit trade Zelda 2015 and Xenoblade Chronicles X for a new Punch-Out.

Come at me bros.

Nooooo thanks. I loved Punch-Out as much as the next guy, but there's no way I would trade the first proper original HD Zelda and a Xenoblade Spiritual sequel for more of the same in regards to Punch-Out.

I'm coming at you :)

Since Punch-Out is MUCH more fun to play through again than a Zelda game or Xenoblade Chronicles I'd rather have fewer Punch-Out games if I had to choose (Simply because I can keep coming back to them every once in a while and get dat fresh arcade fun)

I read that he got married to Elvis's ghost in an issue of The National Enquirer. They wouldn't lie, would they?

Guys I'm curious, this is thread XIV, what did people talk about/speculate in thread 1?

Lucina: Use Marth but write Lucina as your player name. There you go.

Thread one...Iirc. Hype, killager meme, megaman!, speculation(pre smash run reveal) about weather or not a certain part of smash run was a dk stage, how the 3ds may or may not affect the roster, Bowser's new moves and up right posture, Miss Fit.......Link's face.

Plenty more junk I can't recall.

and I'm glad it eclipsed my anticipation for Brawl.

Man, Brawl's hype was really something special. The game may have ended up being well... Brawl, but I honestly don't think there's ever going to be another internet hype train quite like there was for Brawl. I haven't been as hyped for a game since (Though Marvel 3 came close)

Smash 4's hype has been a lot more subdued for me, though that's probably a good thing, since my expectations aren't ridiculously overblown.

Edit: Come to think of it, the huge ass megathread on GAF back during Brawl hype was how I found GAF in the first place.

Doesn't make it right.

Look, I'm not saying that the leak is wrong because Wii Fit Trainer was a plausible idea. It wasn't. Either he was right, or he was ridiculously lucky. Almost no one saw that coming at all.
What I'm arguing is that Ash's use of the term literally was wrong because someone out there thought of the idea. People shouldn't speak in absolutes unless they have the evidence to back it up.

By the way:

Fucking got it.

I actually feel the need to applaud you for actually finding that.

But that's my point. Literally no one is an expression/common hyperbole, and ought to be treated as such

And does a post from 2008, the year Brawl came out, count as a prediction or a "wouldn't it be neat if ___" kind of post that is meant in a non-serious prediction way

Anyways, I really don't want to extend this argument, so I'm just going to say, props to you for finding that

I saw the date. That's why I posted it. Someone thought of the idea, which means that Ash's statement was wrong.
Ash said "literally no one guessed Wii Fit Trainer," and he's still correct. Someone mentioning the Wii Fit girl three years before this game was even in development doesn't change anything, and I already brought that up. Ash is saying that nobody predicted Wii Fit Trainer specifically for this Smash Bros. Nobody put Wii Fit Trainer on their SSB4 prediction lists or dream rosters. That's all Ash is trying to say.

Yeah, cool. I just wanted to prove that someone thought it was possible before the Gematsu leak, even if it was purely speculative or jokingly.
Thanks for being a good sport. Sorry if I was being overly aggressive earlier.

I will say that just because it's common to misuse literal doesn't make it right, but that's just my opinion. Final post on the topic.

Weekend SmashGAF is in full force tonight.

Just putting this out there to everybody with theories and documenting patterns and predictions and people who analyse the traditions of the series and what Sakurai has said and done "x happened in melee so y won't happen now" conspiracy fake leak etc etc etc

Do we really know anything? We don't. You can make as many lists and youtube videos analysing footage and breaking everything down as much as you like but we don't know a damn thing.

If you could go back to the days of Melee and predict where the series would be on it's fourth (and fifth) iteration in terms of characters, stages and series representation how close would you be? You've only got to do a google search on rosters people made for a Melee sequel back in the era of 2004/5 to see what was going through people's heads. Would anybody guess that popular series like Metroid and Donkey Kong would be outnumbered by the likes of Fire Emblem? That the Zelda series would stick with the same 5 character types? That Mewtwo would be cut and Jigglypuff kept? That ROB would be in? ROB!

I love the hype and the theorising as much as the next smash fan, I really do, in fact the lead up to a new Smash is just as much fun
if not more so
than the game itself. But in a series where all logic goes out of the window (example Brawl's OCD CSS to 3DS' all over the place CSS) and traditions that aren't really there ( Falcon unlockable>starter>unlockable>starter) it just shows that no matter what debates we have and that we think we've solved something, anything can happen in these games that continue to make people tilt there head and say WTF? Which after all is Sakurai's real passion before making insanely fun games.

So just try not to get your hopes too high and at the same time try not to be too cynical about it all and let's see where this next week leaves us.

Samus blew up a planet and saved alien koalas at the same time. What has Wii Fit trainer done lately? Squats?

Unfortunately, I was quite young and still discovering internet stuff with the Brawl Hypetrain so I didn't experience it properly. Funnily enough I'd say it's the reason I go on video game communities and the like in the internet at all is primarily because of Brawl, too.

Liking all these ideas!

Lucas: Deflect at least five projectiles with the Franklin Badge in one match.

Chorus Kids: Unlock each soundtrack (Or in the Wii U version, unlock an equivalent number of soundtracks).

Chorus Kids - Go into the eShop and pay for the DLC.

Calling it now: the eight iteration of Smash will have a new Zelda character. Quote me on this. :)

It's cool man, smashGAF would be a much unfriendlier place if people couldn't forget the moments where we tear each other part (like the times we actually do get into competitive vs casual, melee vs brawl. For example beginning of cake thing before it became a huge joke, or that time a bunch of people got mad at one specific poster, etc.)
