Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Stickers were nice for the sole fact that they were pretty much collectable little pieces of game art.

There were just too much for me to enjoy collecting.
Plus them just being art we have all seen took away from really wanting to bother collecting them. Had forgotten all about that they were used in SSE though.

Meh at the cases I ain't excited until I get some real info.

Thing is, to have both screens of the 3DS in it, there has to be something in the whitespace

This is how I've set it up. Though I moved the bottom screen up to be in line.
You need more graphics. Look at how the pros do it.

From 4chan who I guess took it from 2ch.

Could be fake, dunno.

If I had the game, the first thing I would show is the menu everyone already saw.

Spoilerino for xenoblade, again:
To be fair, I had no idea it was coming. I just assumed it was alvis, or someone I hadn't met yet. I guess if someone told me they COULDN'T tell me, then I might have guessed, but all I knew was that there was a party member, and I thought his/her name was seven. I think just calling them 'seven' works fine, just don't say stuff like 'seventh character that i can't tell you who it is or it'll mega spoil the game'

Speaking of which,
Alvis might as well have been another party member. He tagged along for long enough, and him being physically present with the party for the endgame wouldn't have changed anything besides Zanza yelling about him a little earlier. But the game took enough time in development as is, I guess.

When 3D is available isn't the little green light on? I mean, when what you are displaying can be seen in 3D the light is on, and there the light is off. So that's not the game, it's a 2D image.
You can play the game and use the menu is 2D too.

EDIT: NVM. Misread.

Still fake though.

Sakurai is such a cuckold.

I don't know why, I just thought this was funny.

Jaw pls. Collecting things for collection's sake is a great thing.

But as long as there are a lot of trophies in this one, I'll be ok.

There needs to be a balance in collectibles. Not too many, just the right amount, and make it so collecting EVERYTHING isn't impossible.

Make a handful of really hard ones, but not too many.

I think the purchasing system for trophies is great, as are challenges. It's a really nice balance that will make collecting everything seem possible, and in reach.

Brawl had TOO MUCH, and obtuse ways to get everything. You had to play the trophy game for hours to get like... one trophy you wanted by the end. Some of the challenges are a bit much, but overall challenges weren't too bad. The other pain in the ass was SSE trophy/sticker collection. You'd just end up having to grind on higher difficulties to get anything you wanted - and don't even start me on the damn trophy stand item.

I may be remembering wrong, but getting 100% in brawl was a pain in the ass - so I never did it, unlike melee.

On that note - now that we know bonuses are back... anyone think we'll get trophies tied to getting certain(or all) bonuses, like in melee?

Things like that are what is making me have second thoughts about streaming Friday tbh.

Aww :( I'd hope no one would try to swat you. Most people that get swatted are like FPS or Moba players, right? You should be fine.

Wanna share friend codes so we can play multiplayer? I'll be getting it friday as well.

Function also plays a role in the balance of collectibles. Trophies are at least nice visual bonuses, but stickers are tiny compressed images of publicly available art, which only serve a purpose in one, rarely-used mode. To contrast, equipment, headgear, outfits and custom moves will have some gameplay benefit in addition to being collectible items, which makes collecting them much more bearable.

Absolutely agreed. I loved the challenges, those were great (even if I never beat boss rush on intense). The way Brawl handled random trophies was really annoying though; I'd have to play that coin launcher game forever in hopes of filling in the gaps in my collection. As much as I thought Coin Launcher was a cool idea, it got tiresome. I wish the lottery or trophy purchasing had been in Brawl in addition to it.

All these Xenoblade spoilers! I must know what people are talking about but at the same time I must resist.

Nothing that interesting; talking about how spoilers are handled and discussed, just with some examples.

Smash Bros NicoNico stream on Friday at 7pm JST

Curse you, Joe, for beating me to it! It's Friday at 7PM Japan Time, to clarify. :P
From Nintendo? What's going onnnnn

The disappointement over the POTD resulted in some....uh....inappropriate sexual tensions for some members :/

One day after the release a bored mod will comb through all 300k+ posts and wonder why he didn't permaban half of us :P
I guess it's understandable. :p A lot of people have high expectation with these last few pics. There's nothing like SmashGAF!

All these Xenoblade spoilers! I must know what people are talking about but at the same time I must resist.

They're talking about the secret hot springs scene where Shulk and Reyn spy on da ladies

But seriously, I wouldn't click :o

On mobile I keep accidentally clicking some.
Thankfully it's been nothing too bad.

I've currently gotten as far as seeing the final corner of the affinity chart so I am making progress despite trying to do as many side quests as possible.

EDIT: Neiteio will still likely beat me to the end.

Maybe it's a way to disseminate Bowser Jr. or Duck Hunt's reveal trailers...? Leaks and broken street dates aside, it's the last chance for them to have any control on the flow of information regarding the base 3DS game.

The high secrecy around 7 just makes it suspect I guess.

I was talking to a friend about it at one point, and mentioned that there was another party member. He asked me who, and I told him I couldn't say. Based on that he was able to guess immediately (though I tried to pretend he was wrong, lol). I've seen plenty of people guess correctly here as well.

With the part about discussion, I was thinking more about checking the Xenoblade OT and stuff like that when the game was new. It happens here too, but a lot of it probably doesn't mean much to people that haven't played the games.

But Smash kinda spoils some things anyway.

Xenoblade Spoilers everywhere
I'm pretty safe from spoilers so far... I just need to finish Earthbound is all. I'm like 2 hours into it or something. I've given up hope of ever playing Mother 3, so I don't even care about the spoilers there.

In situations like these, it doesn't even have to be Xenoblade (or even a Videogame)
I just lie to people straight and make some shit up. This is usually even better because they thought something different was going to happen.
In that particular situation I would've told him "it's a new character - some mechon I don't remember the name though." That's basically not even that much of a lie xD

Place a sign in your front door saying you totally don't have any weapons and/or drugs in your possession nor are you part of a conspiracy to assassinate the president, along with some cookies to compensate the SWAT team for getting all geared up for nothing.
