I honestly think each version will sell over 6 million copies, so both of them combined would outsell Brawl. Assuming this happens, the Smash Bros. series will not decline in sales for over 20 years!! assuming Smash 5 launching in 2020.

Okay sure, this is interesting.
Villager: To be honest I thought it was strange of Sakurai to dismiss Villager for Brawl, but my guess is because SSE probably dominated the development of that game, Sakurai couldn't think of a way to fit him into the story (Jigglypuff, Toon Link, and Wolf didn't fit in either, but they were probably the last additions, I think). So on one hand Village was expected, but still a nice surprise to see Sakurai take back his previous comments.
Mega Man: I don't have much of an interest in speculating on third party characters. Lots of people seemed to want him in, though. I think Villager was more of a surprise out of the initial reveal.
Wii Fit Trainer: For whatever reason she wasn't revealed in the E3 trailer. Lots of people were shocked by this. I certainly would have never guessed her as showing up in this game, but when I saw that she was, I just thought, "Yeah, that makes sense. Cool."
Rosalina: I remember after reading that she was playable in 3D World that it would be neat if she ended up in Smash Bros. too. And well, she did. But she's someone I never would have guessed before 3D World happened.
Little Mac: Lots of people seemed to like him. He would bring a unique fighting style to the game. This one was a no brainer.
Greninja: Probably the biggest surprise to me. I figured that there would be a Pokemon newcomer one way or another. But this was before Pokemon Trainer was cut, and I figured that one of the XY starters wouldn't be put in as a rep by itself. Because there was no other Pokemon that seemed suitable for Smash while also receiving a ton of promotion like Lucario (though some people wanted Sylveon in), I figured the new Pokemon rep would be an old Pokemon that received a Mega Evolution in XY. My guess was Gardevoir, as that was the Champion's ace in XY. So I was pretty surprised that Greninja ended up as the new Pokemon rep in this game.
Mii Fighters: Everyone was expecting them back in Brawl, so they ended up showing up a bit late to the party. Not surprising at all.
Palutena: Sakurai worked on the Kid Icarus revival before this. She's probably the second most important character in Kid Icarus. Another no-brainer.
Pac Man: Again, I didn't have much of an interest in third party characters. However, I noticed people seemed to really start predicting him after the Gematsu leak, whereas before I probably saw Simon Belmont mentioned more than him. I feel like people predicted Pac Man more out of some sense of inevitability than actually wanting to play as him. But regardless, he ended up in the game anyway.
Lucina: She was kind of expected as some sort of Marth costume. So her being a clone instead is pretty neat. Before the Gematsu leak, I thought she would end up as the Awakening rep instead of Chrom.
Robin: After the Gematsu leak, everyone kind of resigned themselves to the fact that we were getting ANOTHER Fire Emblem swordsman. But suddenly, Robin showed up instead! He is definitely the more interesting rep to add to Smash Bros. I never would have guessed him, as it seemed like only Fire Emblem Lords would be added to this series. That's why I thought Lucina was more likely than him.
Shulk: I have never played Xenoblade. But I saw this guy pop up on nearly every prediction roster, wishlist roster, and fake leak roster I read. His reveal wasn't a shock at all.
Bowser Jr.: Before Rosalina, I would have said Bowser Jr. was the most likely Mario rep to be added. But even then, I thought he would have used the paintbrush. Bowser Jr. getting in but fighting in the Clown Car AND having the other Koopalings as alts was a real surprise to me.
Duck Hunt: Back before Brawl was released, the Duck Hunt Dog was a popular character in speculation, but more along the lines of "Wouldn't that be neat?" than anyone realistically thinking that the dog would show up. So Duck Hunt being in the game is pretty awesome, but considering he's always been in the back of my mind when it comes to character speculation, it wasn't a huge surprise.

Just listened to Tomadachi Life. Leave it to Masafumi Takada to make me really like an originally "meh" track for me.

Alrighty then. I didn't put alot of these on my predictions (which was a fail) but I always think about a characters chances so here is what I thought their chances were: (All ordered in what I expected the most)
Not including her would be a bigger WTF than cutting Mario Tier:

Lucina (Before the Gematsu leak, after that I didn't think she had a chance. If I had played FEA before this July, I probably would've chosen Robin. My reasoning for Lucina is that I didn't think Sakuari would add a third male instead of female FE rep due to the variety of FE Female reps.)
Has decent chances tier:
Koopalings in Clown Car. I shit you not, but I was thinking of this before the leaks. Thought they would all be in at once and didn't think of Bowser Jr.
Cut Melee veterans in general, not just Doctor Mario. (Always thought there was a decent chance Sakurai would go out and uncut most Melee vets or even all of them.)
