Does anyone else think Destiny has very long load times?

I noticed they are much longer for the tower than anything else because at the tower it tries to put you into an instance with other people so it needs to find one and connect you to everyone.

There is damage scaling (i.e. level 20 deals a % of health damage to a level 3 mob as opposed to a level 3 player dealing weapon damage to a level 3 mob)
So there should also be loot scaling

Yeah, but you still oneshot anyone on old russia's strike. And you get even better stuff than running around on mars, killing mobs at your level.

I really don't get it.

Then so the load times on PC will be so short when going to The Tower if they implement Steamworks to help find instances

Don't try to understand MMOs
Also, Strikes may or may not boost chance to get better loot

The dudes that rush at you, I'm right at the back and still can't take them all out in time. I'm really fucking bad at shooters.

Oh well, Apple event in 40 minutes to cheer me up!

I just sailed through that as a level 6 hunter. Using a handcannon (which one-shots anything short of a Captain/Knight/Wizard if you get a headshot), and hiding to the left of the door for the swarms of thralls. Just stand there, let them line themselves up, and headshot them all one after the other.

Whatever changes they made to handcannons since beta, it's taken them from being probably my least favourite weapon to one of my favourites.

They're absurd now. According to the post-mission screen, out of my ~100ish kills over the course of the mission, about 3/4 of them were headshots.

Is it possible to play this with a custom soundtrack like the 360 would/could do? Seen some info on updates to the One but didn't see it explained if it would take music from a PC to do custom soundtracks or if I need some bullshit snapped in on the side.

Rarr! Home from work and it was waiting for meeeeee!

I still find them really pretty but I can see that wearing off.

I hope it doesn't, though.

So that for end game grinding, you aren't required to only farm Mars. It's a good thing.

Eh, ok. But what's the point on farming mars when you can kill lv2 mobs and get the same stuff?

Is there a mode where enemies are 20+ regardless of the location?

That's horrible if true.

I did 4 runs on devils with 2 lv 18 dudes that where doing the exact same thing as me.

I got a full set of armor and a cydonia that are WAY better than the stuff at lv 17/18 that I had on mars .

That's a travesty in my eyes. I absolutely detest the way those games go about telling a story simply because you never actually feel as if there is a point to anything. You're just doing missions with no frame-work.
There IS a context to your missions and the world-building is there if you look for it (the Grimoire is extremely cool and unique in my opinion, and addictive to try and fill), but I agree with you conceptually. I mean, if you need a point to progressing and increasing your character's power other than your innate desire to do so as a player, this is not going to be a very rewarding game. It's meant more to cater toward (and reward) the sense that you want to do these things just 'cause (like those other games I used as examples).
Pretty much my review if I'd written one.
I feel silly even trying to "review" it without having spent even 10 hours in a game that could certainly be played for hundreds, but at the same time I do kind of expect a lot of mainstream reviews to wind up making a lot of the same points.

Story presentation, mission design being repetitive, total number of singleplayer locations, limited "MMO" scope (lack of communication tools for random interaction)

So early in the game, I feel like I had to "predict" my impressions, but there are some things that are obvious...

I think it's going to be very easy for plenty of people to look past the flaws and not so easy for others. Whether or not the package is worth it to you in terms of individual value will come down to what you want out of the experience. If stuff that I consider ancillary like a strong narrative and "heavy MMO" elements are really important to you in this sort of game, then it's probably not going to win you over. The gameplay feels very polished and tuned, controls are great, moment-to-moment gameplay is hella fun, character progression is addicitive, natural multiplayer elements are unobtrusive and seamless. I'd describe what is presented here so far as "a very good start," to a gameplay base, to a new franchise, a new style of psuedo-persistent multiplayer. It is very obviously built to be expanded on in chunks over the long haul. It doesn't have the feature sets of an established sequel (though compared to something like Titanfall it does offer way more for the asking price).

Here's an example. You can take on a couple of bounties at the tower, wander out, run into a random or two and start an open mission, culminating in a fight where you might wind up saving or reviving each other before a close victory. This is very "surface" stuff, equivalent to MMORPG questing, you're not advancing the story or seriously testing your skills. But of course, you are shooting aliens in the face and boosting around on a hoverbike and double-jumping on downed airplanes. If the actual play experience of doing this kind of thing feels fun for you, you'll probably love this game, and get an enormous amount from the more advanced content. If it strikes you as boring or grindy then it probably won't win you over.

I expect it to be very highly reviewed because it's a strong foundation and the gameplay is so tight. But in terms of quality of content, I feel like you kind of need to experience the Vault of Glass, which means getting to the point where you're able to do the Vault of Glass, and literally no one can comment on that yet (it doesn't even unlock until the 16th). I imagine they put a lot of design work into this "raid" and it probably represents the effort they are likely to put into expanding the game as well. But absolutely no one can tell you how worthwhile it is yet.

So for now you have to sort of decide if the moment-to-moment core gameplay feels fun enough to you to make the game worth playing. For me that's an easy yes even solo, and it only improves playing with others.

I will say that if you don't plan to PvP (which so far seems very well tuned and up to Bungie's pedigree to me) at all, the value of the game overall is definitely reduced.

I don't think saying the PvP is unbalanced is fair, let alone this early. hopping into the Crucible at level 5, I played matches until I hit level 7 and they felt quite close from a team vs. team sense, and I didn't feel like I was being invalidated by high-level/geared players at all.
I anticipate my impressions being very similar to this.

Can you skip cutscenes? I redid one of the first missions on Hard and a cutscene I already saw came up, but I couldn't find a way to skip it. : \

It's because there's only 4 areas. If they restricted the endgame loot to Mars, that's where you'd be stuck, and you'd get sick of it. Of course, it's an issue in conventional MMOs as well, but those have upwards of a dozen zones (or more). Destiny needs to squeeze every ounce of utility out of the areas it has.

... I can't believe they still haven't fixed that :I

That was a major problem with taking on missions together in the alpha and the beta. Completely unskippable cutscenes...

Again.. then what's the point on going on mars when i can kill lv 2 mobs and get the same thing?

I'm actually asking, i don't know how it works. I was just surprised to see loot at my level in old russia.

Has anyone encountered public events so far? I've roamed around for 3 hours and have seen no events at all!

That sucks. I ran into tons of them during Beta. Probably had 30+ under my belt by the end. Seemed like each time I jumped into Explore and got to a new area like the forgotten shore I would start a public event.

Hope its just bad luck on your part! (sounds worse then i meant )

Yeah, I'd be hesitant to use the "R" word, but your impressions are very in line with mine.

Man, just put the hurt on some kids in my first crucible match using a hand cannon. Definitely not my favorite weapon, but it works.

Does anybody ever encountered marionberry and beaver error code?
I got this too often and hardly can get into the tower and I can't enter the crucible.

Asking again, because this thread moves too fast.

Does anyone know how to get the Bungie.net exclusive emblems? Such as the one for playing four of their previous games?

I meet the requirements for several of them, but haven't received them yet.

They seemed to be glitches at the moment.

go to your profile and under that redeem codes

edit: oooooooooooh no clue. heard they were still coming

The Star Wars Prequels would like a word with you.

They only exist because the original trilogy was so charming to people. Which ties in to my point.

Understand I'm not strictly arguing that quantity = quality; simply that you need a robust, well realized world that would make people care about buying ancillary material. And with games, connecting to gamers in that manner requires a story and canon that is decently presented in the first place.

Yeah I went through a lot of them during the beta as well. Ran past the usual public event areas multiple times and it never happened :/

Load times are certainly not ideal. I give it a slight pass because loading (so far anyway) doesn't even actually break up gameplay, it's just a "between gameplay" thing and considering the design these are good times to hit the bathroom or grab a snack :P

This will be my first and only whinge that it should have been available on PC; this is kicking the crap out of a dead horse, but indeed, everything about this title screams to be installed to an SSD.

No! Did tons of roaming and incidental grouping and quests, but no public events popped. I hope (and even think it's kind of cool) this was just due to variability, and other times I might see a few in short succession.
