August 2014 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes September 9th

It's been detailed prior but if you look here

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-08/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

Amazon has it

PS4 - 5th
Madden XB1 - 49th
KL XB1 - 52

No other XB1 SKU charted not counting pre-orders

I've actually been meaning to ask others about September Amazon bestsellers

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-09/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#5

It says "Sorry, there are no past bestsellers available in this category."

Which it tends to say when the data hasn't been inputted/collected yet but I'm pretty sure it should have some of that by now. Wonder if there's a malfunction somewhere on September's data

How do you get it to show best sellers by the month?

NPD releases in exactly two days. I'm quite excited for this month.

Hmmm.... you sound like you know something you aren't letting on! On the surface it seems like a pretty boring month without any big releases. I was expecting it to be kind of the calm before the storm called Destiny. Any particular reason why you are excited that you can share?

How do you get it to show best sellers by the month?

So I'll post it here and go one step further

For Yearly the url is

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

For Monthly you simply add "-XX" where XX is the number of the month, August [Month 8] for example would be

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-08/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-08/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-07/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-07/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-09/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

And that one step further, I've actually figured out you can ask it by week

For august

Week 1: Week of August 4th

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-08-04/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-08-04/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

Week 2: Week of August 11th

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-08-11/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2014-08-11/videogames/?tag=viglink20241-20#1

And so on. You simply add "-XX" onto the end of the Year-Month qualifier where XX represents the date of a given monday of that month. Must be done with Mondays

Oh wow, PS4 Destiny has already outsold Titanfall X1 on Amazon.

It's actually a fairly interesting comparison as

PS4 Destiny SKU - 13th
XB1 Titanfall SKU - 14th
XB1 Titanfall Bundle - 41st
PS4 Destiny Bundle - 46th

So they are very comparable it would seem. Also XB1 Destiny SKU is 16th so it's fair to say Destiny has sold a lot. Albeit it kind of needs to.

NPD releases tomorrow.

It's a shame that I always seem to be working right as PR drops so it takes a while for me to be able to fully participate in the conversation.

Whats interesting is the current rankings for September.
Both system sold Destiny fairly close in ranking AND it seems that it moved a bit more Xbox Ones hardware from previous months ranking
seeing as its in the top 10 currently.
Goes without saying though both the destiny bundle and individual sku is ahead of Xbox One hw. Nevertheless September will surely be entertaining.

Where do you get the bolded from?

The Destiny Bundle of PS4 is the best selling Hardware SKU on that chart so I'm probably just interpreting you wrong

Sorry what I meant was that destiny moved a bit more Xbox One hardware compared to the previous months ranking. And yes PS4 is still the top hardware. I'll edit my post.

I'm certain XB1 will sell more in September over August, in no small part to Destiny but there's other helping hands too. [5 weeks of NPD tracking versus 4, Buy an XB1 get a game for free, etc.]

Are you saying that the Xbox One Console is in the Top 10 currently? I assume you mean the Xbox One version of the game. You said "it seems that it moved a bit more Xbox Ones seeing as its in the top 10 currently." I assume you mean the game.

I see the highest Xbox One in the September Rankings as 32nd. Compared to the PS4 Destiny Bundle at 6th and the Standard Ps4 12th.

Of course, the Amazon rankings change quite a bit, and are just one small data source to look at for fun. However, as stated many times in these threads, the overall monthly sales on Amazon have always been correct in showing which system, Xbox One vs PS4, sold the most in NPD numbers that specific month.

EDIT: I see you are going to edit your post, sorry./

If it's a cumulative monthly ranking, though, for this month you have to take into account that we're only 10 days into it. As we get further into the month and more major releases come out, there's a chance that they push the XB1 even further down the list.

PS4 Destiny bundle was always in Top 10 on Amazon even when the Destiny bundle was announced @E3 2014. That's a quite achievement.

Another fun note; the PS4 has never left the top 20 since it launched.

This is the first time XB1 has been back in the top 20 since March.

Yeah, wow, even at #12 now thanks to Destiny. And with two SKUs in the top 10 PS4 is still selling more than double of that. Another intersting NPD month again finally.

We won't know the full extent of how well the Destiny-Sony marketing deal went until a few months time, probably after January. The reason for this is that most gamers tend to buy in Day One for a particular game they want, while more casual gamers will take longer. A perfect example of this is too look back at Watch Dogs for PS4 based on Amazon. Just for reference Amazon's best selling for 2014 has Destiny for PS4 at #13 and Destiny for Xbox One at #16. Now in comparison, Watch_Dogs is sitting at #21 for PS4 and at #82 for Xbox One.

Now let's go back and look at the month-by-month and see when exactly Watch_Dogs #PS4 began to outnumber Watch_Dogs #Xbone. In May 2014 when Watch_Dogs was released the month shows: PS4 at #5 and Xbone at #7.(Mario Kart 8 was actually at #4) In June 2014 Watch_Dogs for PS4 was at #17 and Xbone was #82. July 2014 has Watch Dogs for PS4 at #45 and Xbone did not chart in the top 100. In August surprisingly Watch_Dogs for PS4 jumps back up to #18 and again Xbone failed to chart. I should note that PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Watch_Dogs failed to chart as well after June 2014. Now it appears that either Watch_Dogs is not doing extremely well we as a franchise compared to Assassin's Creed 4, which is still selling on all four platforms or it appears that the consumer via marketing has assumed that the PS4 is the place to be for Watch_Dogs

Also the Xbone Madden bundle apparently was outsold in August by both the PS4 Destiny bundle(#8) and PS4 Standard Madden 15(#16) with Xbone Ultimate Team Madden 15(#36) and Xbone Standard Madden 15(#39) and finally Xbone Madden bundle(#50). It also seems that the regular Xbone is beating the madden bundle for the first week of September with the regular Xbone at #33 and madden bundle failing to chart. The first week of September also shows Madden selling in this fashion: PS4(#32)>360(#40)>PS3(#78)>Xbone(#87).

The Madden XB1 Bundle has become sold out on Amazon at least from Amazon themselves. There is a $20 markup at minimum to order it from a third party seller so I wouldn't take the Madden SKUs performance on Amazon in September as a good indicator of wider trends personally

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for that.

I was actually very very surprised/shocked that the PS4 Destiny Bundle has sold more so far this month than the 360 version of the game.

Looks like the PS4 could have a huge September.

So will the XB1, or at the very least far better then its been for the rest of the year for them...

PS4 generating already more software revenue than Xbox 360 is fucking crazy

Also 2,5 times more software units that Xbox One. Ouch.

As always thanks for the info. Seems the software sales gap is opening up a little by little the farther we get away from Titanfall launch. Can't wait to see September sales. Bet Destiny outsells the entire August market.

What did they say?

"I'm getting sick and tired of Aquamarine's supposedly 'funny' cryptic posts."

"I hope someday there will be another guy giving out the numbers, who isn't such a huge attention whore and just leaves out the whole teasing, ambiguity and long waiting times and instead cuts right to the chase....urgh I'm getting annoyed because I'm tired, I'm out."

And other drama! It's amusing to watch!

Speaking about chartzzz they don't even have August numbers yet as they are missing final week of august lol. Maybe they are waiting for NPD numbers this time and releasing their own numbers after that (like they always do with their weekly japanese numbers, releasing them after Media Create)
