I play edthe beta on my PlayStation three I can't use that same character on my Xbox 360 right? Contemplating buying the 360 version.

getting 20 in around 10 hours with an organized group is pretty doable. faster if you don't wipe in a couple of strikes along the way. dust palace can be done in 10-15 minutes if you don't wipe on the last encounter, which is going to be great to farm for those playstation exclusive exotic weapons

coming along nicely:

man people here seem disappointed

who wants to guess the Metacritic score?

Hey, they got the preorders going and they came up with a bullshit excuse to stifle review scores so it's a win for them!

Glad I waited on impressions and didn't preorder because the beta gave me the vibe of a very bare game. I was hoping there would be more to the full game but I was suspecting that there wouldn't, and it seems like my fears have been confirmed instead of my hopes.

I'm really liking it. Though I think a bit of the 'wow' factor was taken away having gone through the Earth missions in the Beta already. I have to look past that though, because the first time through those missions in the Beta had me smiling ear to ear.

I've only done the first 2 missions on the Moon, and man they are pretty tense doing it by yourself. I'm really looking forward to going through everything on Hard with some friends.

Anyway, only Lv 9 at the moment! Early days!

So based on peoples reactions this game is marmite.

Hopefully they'll add better story elements, it is a game they will be tweaking as time goes on.

Well, you'll be looking at a whole lot of loading screens, so pick something you like.

Just fire up your character screen and dismantle/config your build. You can do this basically at any time e.g. during cutscenes too, which is nice when you're replaying on hard or with a buddy etc.

If I'm playing devil's advocate, I think there's an argument to be made that an in-game codex would be counter to a lot of the design goals of the game. There already isn't a pause button, so staying in a menu for 10 minutes reading a thing isn't ideal. Also, they don't want people that are in fire teams or in shared zones standing still reading a thing.

That said, it should absolutely be somewhere in the game, whether in a pause screen or a Tower library terminal or whatever.

Personally I always read the Mass Effect codex stuff when I got back to the ship, and would read this codex stuff in the tower, or during the oddly long loading screens(Or when someone in my party is afk). I don't see being able to read it at any time being a problem. I do see having to go waaay out of your way to a website or app for the sole purpose of reading lore you picked up in game as being a problem.

People threw themselves into the hype expecting something greater than the Beta. They got the Beta, proceeded to shit themselves, and are calling heresy.

I'm having fun either way.

I think most people who enjoyed the beta are enjoying the full game, at least I hope.

The beta was quite content heavy for a console beta and was out only a little over a month before the game's release, people shouldn't have expected any changes outside of a few minor things.

The strangest thing about Destiny is the utter lack of interesting set pieces. I never would have expected that from the Halo guys.

It's strange how they set up a world with all this history and then expand on absolutely none of it.

I find it sort of sad that Joe Staten's talent was wasted on a game that barely has a story to begin with. What's there is interesting, but there is so little of it. A talking Peter Dinklage robot is not a substitute for storytelling.

None! It's all just cosmetic

if you wanna stand out, you gotta spend the dough

Probably the most disappointing part of the game for me. In the beta we got to the moon but I figured it was just a Beta thing. I figured they would get you to buy better ships to fly further to new Planets. After all, when you first get the ship Ghost basically says it can't leave orbit. One trip to the hanger, no notification and suddenly you're flying everywhere.

What a terrible missed opportunity.

I'm having fun, because I got exactly what I wanted. Either that, or for some reason, it's impossible for insane levels of hype to ruin my experience of a game.

I'd give it a high 7 or low 8.

There's nothing really extraordinary about the game and many last gen shackles like the awful and frequent loading.

Gane us fun but nothing ground breaking or remarcable in any way.

Story?

All I hear is a midget guiding me to stuff

The Speaker is clearly a "story" arc but

the action fun is what matters to me

I'm usually the last person to tell somebody to be politically correct, but this particular word against somebody like Peter DInklage really makes me sad because it puts down all his efforts to be taken seriously as an actor by not taking Elf/tiny people roles so he could get serious acting gigs.

Please add clan members lists to the player lists of in the game itself. If not there's little point to clans outside of the trophies/achievement, and we'd be 'forced' to have to add them to our friends list, which defeats the purpose of having a clan once again. In Halo 2 you hda the right idea. Why not do it here?

Since I haven't played the game yet, I was under the impression that the clan members will be shown in the players list (I wasn't in the DestinyGAF during the beta). A bit disappointing, tbh. I would love to be able to add GAF clan members to my friends list. :-\

Thanks for the impressions guys. You saved me $60, I had the feeling Destiny was going to be all gloss no substance, Ill probably pick it up when its below $20. Assuming the game is still alive.

What I take from all of this is you are presented a game with an epic story and promises of exploring the galaxy, where in reality you are dropped in linear zones that kind of resemble planets.

Coming off Diablo 3, the way Destiny does loot is kind of boring in comparison. I'm not even sure why, but I never get excited when I get an item like I would for legendaries or set pieces in D3.

you can add members to your friends list, you just have to do it via a third party and add them each by typing in their name. Halo 2 had a friends list and a clan list, this doesn't. It kind of stresses me out as it's really defeating the purposes of clans. There's no bragging rights or points to alliances now. I assumed that with all of the effort and tooting they were doing for them that we'd have more.

I'm loving the game obviously, but so many aspects are just utterly disappointing considering the developer behind it. Like somebody else said, an 85 would be the highest I would willingly give this game in its current state.

Oh, and they didn't change the god damned awful Crucible announcer after every man and his dog complained. It's terrible, way worse than Ghost.

Not really this is entirely preference, with more games people can get used to him.

I'm Level 3 right now playing on Earth still obviously. How do I call my Sparrow bike? I see other players zipping around on them around me, but I can't find a button command to bring the bike out. What gives?

Who?

The Robot is a little thing, thats what I meant

Didnt even know this game had "actors".

There's no epic story here. There's a skeleton of one. Actually that's generous, I should say there's a crime-scene body outline of a story. But yeah, that's accurate, the zones are kinda biggish, and there's some nice scenery, though.

On PS4, press the touchpad and hold the square button.

Forgive me for sounding ancient, but; Online only??

Fuck. My internet connection sucks around here. It's super shoddy and I can't tell if it's my router location or just
god forsaken shit damned
Comcast, but playing this is not viable with my current set up...

Considering the mixed reviews thus far I'm not too broken up about it. My backlog needed attention anyways.

Yeah apparently a bunch of people just completely inhaled the hypemachine and expected this to be some kind of deux ex machina for current gen when it was never going to be.

I played the beta and enjoyed what appeared to be a very polished and fun MMO-lite shooter, decided I'd buy it.

I played the retail game and what do you know? It's a very polished and fun MMO-lite shooter.

Keeping your expectations in check is the key here people.

Agreed.

I took a break from work to read the Grimoire cards I've collected so far, and I've realized that they're where all of the lore is stored. Thinking about it, it's been the Bungie way for quite some time.

Consider Halo: The main storyline across the Halo games is very simple. A really strong dude has to destroy super weapons to save the known universe. That universe is packed with years and years worth of history, lore, plot development, and interesting characters. But it's all tucked away in novels, video clips, promotional journals, and mysterious e-mails from before the first Halo game even released!

Destiny is looking to take a similar route. The storyline of the game so far (and I'll admit that I'm also very early into things) is very barebones. You're a guy who got brought back to life to protect the known universe from a largely unknown evil. But then you start digging into the Grimoire. Aside from the fairly generic information about weapons and enemies, there are also little vignetted stories about things that happened to the NPCs in the game. Things that happened before you got to the tower. Big things. Little things.

Bungie continue to build great worlds. They just don't do it within the game itself.

Hype has ruined games for me in the past, but because of the alpha and beta I knew what to expect. I bought the game on that expectation and I'm perfectly satisfied with my purchase. I do think a lot of the complaints people have are valid to some extent, but I'm still having a blast!
