Oh yeah, anyone else find the first Venus strike difficult as fuck? The Archon Priest is a MONSTER. The only reason my group managed to get through that fight is because I spent most of my time killing the adds as soon as they spawned. My handcannon was one-shotting the shanks and I kept using my super on the servitor.

Took forever. 35 minute run in total, we cleared it first try. I had 210 kills and the other two guys had 45 and 64 lol.

game needs weapon trading. None of that "your gear is earned" nonsense. they want you to see someone with something cool, message them about it and then go to the strike they got it from to try and earn it. problem is it's cumbersome. trading would better facilitate those interactions and bring life to the wild and tower hub. it could show what you're trading above your head and a person can see that and walk up to you and trade.

I think they are afraid of the implications of "unofficial" AH that it would become. They seemed dead set against a player economy.

In all seriousness, there are a fair number of complaints that are valid. I played the beta and figured what I was getting into...am enjoying it immensely so far. Many others played the beta and enjoyed it base on my unscientific analysis.

But, with any popular "thing" it will bring out a fair share of people who just want to irrationally hate something since they don't think its good/doesn't appeal to them. Because clearly everything should appeal to everyone, certainly if it's popular...otherwise it is just way overrated and those who like/love the popular "thing" are sheep/shills. So yeah...

I don't think I've seen that said in this case at all. Despite your disclaimer in the first line, most folks are just putting everyone who is criticizing the game in the same group. Which is a bit ironic given the #gamergate crap following that Leigh Alexander article. If anything the people defending the game have been calling the criticizers sheep for 'falling for hype'.

These type of arguments are nothing more than deflective bullshit.

I'm criticizing what I think is wrong with the game by writing a story within the game's world.

Wait, that doesn't count, does it?

You probably are thinking of mission/strike rewards. I got crappy greens from the Moon strike, which I promptly dismantled.

And speaking of Public Events:

I had an awesome one while patrolling Venus last night. A Devil Walker got dropped in the middle of a bunch of Fallen, and 3 randoms and I teamed up to take it down. The intense music was perfect as I weaved in and out of combat, shooting the legs and reviving fellow Guardians. I died 3 times, but in the end we killed the Devil Walker and I got a perfect rating for the Event! I wish they happened a bit more frequently, though.

yep, pretty sure that's what I'm thinking of.

awesome, yeah I'll be surprised if we don't see a bump in public events this weekend.

Demo/Beta != whole game generally. I would expect some variety or sense of progression outside of some numbers. Things to be fleshed out and expanded as the game moved forward.

That didn't happen (though some moments was so close to like Venus), and honestly what it does do, except gunplay, isn't particularly stellar if you leave the bubble.

And that's enough for a lot of folks. I think it's decent mechanically and with a good group of friends it can be incredibly fun when tackling strikes.

But that's a pretty low bar to set, and quite frankly the straw man arguments that people must have been too hyped in the face of criticism is a bit disturbing. For example, I could argue that folks who are saying it's a great game are suffering from purchase confirmation bias, but how do you think folks like you would react to that? Would call out bullshit pretty quick I imagine.

I just don't see why most people aren't actually engaging the criticism and instead are 'attacking'/making it about the individuals levying them.

Edit: Same goes for the constant goal posts. It's just an Alpha, it's just a Beta (I loved both btw), wait until the Vault of Glass unlocks, wait until the DLC in December, wait until the DLC in probably March, and so on and so forth. When are people allowed to be able to voice disappointment?

FakeEdit: I'm speaking of actual criticisms, not 'game is trash' level stuff.

I guess I don't understand why someone's enjoyment of a game needs to be explained. I have to "engage the criticism" by trying to articulate my moment to moment joyful experience with this game? How am I supposed to do that exactly? A list of play hours? Some kind of blood pressure monitoring?

I don't think either side needs to be engaged. You have your opinion if you don't like it. I have mine if I think it's literally the most engrossing game I've ever played.

Neither one of us are wrong. Neither one of us is "duped by hype" or "the brave defender of the fair evaluation of consumer products from evil corporations".

We're just people with opinions who don't owe each other anything but to be civil and respectful. (Like, say, not implying that if you like the game, your brain is lying to you because it's trying to keep you from feeling bad about spending $90, NOT because it's been waiting for a game developer to step up to the plate after The Designers Republic left the industry after working on Wip3out and finally took graphic design in games seriously. NOT because every level regardless of how big it is or how many times you have to walk through it, is perfectly lit and designed and filled with more detail than you could ever reasonably take in. NOT because the combat just feels totally awesome or the armor is not just thoughtfully designed in terms of function, but like actually looks fantastic aesthetically and makes you actually want to get more of it and make your charac look not just video game cool but wow like actually cool, like THIS GAME HAS ACTUAL STYLE! THAT'S SO RAD!!!)

I think we're all just people, man.

You literally just put the people you say are putting people into a group, into a group.

Let's stop chasing this rabbit down the hole and respond to actual criticisms and arguments. This is not productive to put it mildly. (Quoting you, but addressing this entire chain of conversation.)

I feel like Bungie wanted to pull off Demon's/Dark Souls story style and utterly failed.

I would very much prefer standard storytelling in this type of game:

1. Intro sets up the narrative.
2. Cutscenes progress the story line.

I was hoping that poor storytelling was a beta thing (thought the missions that we got to play weren't in sequence and that's why it felt choppy), but it obviously it's not.

Hopefully, Bungie will get their shit together and fill the gigantic gaps in DLC.

Luckily for them, gameplay is utterly brilliant, and that's what's saving this game from being $500 million failure. Best MP I've played in years. Perhaps ever. I just feel bad about the wasted potential of story. Could have been epic.

This, seriously

"Oh yeah, let's totally have the player base figure out the world and story like those crazy From Software dudes.... everyone loves that!"

...um, no

Was on the moon by myself and some level 20 dropped in. I was level 8 at the time and he was just killing everyone with one shot before I had a chance. Boo.

A gear check at lvl 12? Come on. It's too hard.
Man no way! Strikes need to be hard to prepare you tactically and vertically for the raid(s). Plus the gear check aspect just forces you to keep your stuff updated which is a good idea regardless. I hate this kind of shit in RPGs, but I think it's really working for me here. You can overlevel it if you must and just want to be able to see the strike.
That's a bummer. I always go out of my way to participate in the public events. Have yet to see a single public event on the moon though. Perhaps not enough people to spark one? Not sure of the criteria for those.
I hope they quadruple the spawn rates of public events or something. I've seen plenty of people on the moon, folk around every corner, but still not a single event.
I think it is because they have too many 'servers', probably cause they were worried about issues. The problem with it is you are not getting anything close to a live world, I wouldn't even call it a shared world shooter at this point. Hopefully, they remove/fix the server issue quickly or people will move on.
Honestly I've seen plenty of people. Tons (in relative terms- more than I expected, because they actually are going for a sense of isolation and encounter), pretty much everywhere. But no Public Events. don't get it.

"the more you play it, the more you love it" and this applies to Destiny :D

Opposite for me. I hope the loot grind and combat is making many a GAFer happy though. I'll probably be done with Destiny in a few days. I'm on Level 14 and apparently the late game raids need more friends than I have on my friends list in order to even play.

I can't help but notice with the reef,
me playing as an Awoken isn't brought up or mentioned whatosever
and that felt weird as hell.

Though I guess everything leading to this point already made me not expect much.

This thread is a buzzkill. I play Destiny and have a blast then come here to talk about it and its mostly negative.

nothing wrong with that at all if that's how most people feel then that's fair.

I hope most of that stuff can move to the review thread if that ever goes up.

and before someone claims I want to be in a positive echo chamber you are right. I enjoy the game and want to talk about what I like not argue about it.

But for real, who's up for some pubstomping tonight?

We could even do a strike or two.

Also, I gotta hand it to bungie for letting players use the same gear for both PVP and PVE. I always hate having to make a new set for pvp as a requirement.

is there any way to customize the rectangle banner that your name appears in (with the symbol), like the color of it? i've seen other people's names in parties and sometimes they're a different color instead of white.

The color of the "rectangle" will become whatever the background color of your emblem is. So say if you have a yellow triangle on a black background as your emblem, your whole "rectangle" will become black. So... you need to get new emblems dude. You can buy them and get them for rewards.

You also don't get a RoBro-Fist when playing as an Exo in the chapter before

This is something a lot of games are guilty of though. Playing as Maya in Borderlands 2, you don't get any recognition from Lilith, who is also one of the 6 Sirens in existence.

What party option thing?

This is what I see on the roster portion of my menu.

txyWyG2.png

I want to be able to set my fire team to invite only but I don't see any way too =/ All that is there is that box with people in it that opens the party app on xbox one. And no setting the party app to invite only doesn't affect my fire team i already tried it.

Something that is really confusing me is the amount of hate this game is getting. If I were to only look at N4G and see comments I would think this game is both awful and a giant flop not reaching sales goals anywhere. It's really crazy that SO many people want this to fail, I don't really understand. I'm having a LOT of fun with the game but some very vocal people are out there crossing their fingers hoping and wishing that the game fails. I really don't get it.

Or they just really dont like it? Look at me: i liked the new Thief game despite everyone hating it. I couldn`t care less. I can see the flaws, but they are just not bothering me and the overall experience is positive for me.

Just finished the strike on Mars. It's a little different from the others and just when strikes were being a little too similar to each other it spiced it up a little. Enjoyed it a lot.

Do you ever get to see your avatars face in a close up shot or is it only restricted to the character creation screen? Wish I would have took a picture of my Joanna Dark lookalike, :(

Also, there needs to more flair or something to the loot boxes. I feel like they're hard too hard to miss.

To each his own man, everybody's taste is individual. The N4G chat is ridiculous and anyone who thinks the game is gonna fail on the word of some haters chat hasn't read the news about what it's pulled in financially ALREADY.

At this point, I just hope they use that money and automatic success to iron out the sequels and hopefully make something a little big bigger/deeper/not so far up its own ass.

So i wanted to make a thread, but ill ask here if i should i make it or keep it here.

Now that you have had actual time with the game, What are your impressions? good, bad? whatever they may be.

Is that the next scheduled like patch or whatever? Really curious to see their first set of tweaks on this bad boy.

We had public events in the beta and people are mentioning having them while they were playing so I don't think they need to patch anything in... If i understood your question correctly.
