Have you played a Bungie game before? They tend to go the realistic route with standard weapons-building upon the concept of form and creating strong, punchy weapons from there.

The more interesting, creative stuff is the magic abilities.

This was never going to be a pop-y, comic book-ish take on things. That's not what Bungie does.
The needler says hi.

Update 5 (What is, and isn't, completely patchable):

What features/fixes should Bungie bring to Destiny before the first expansion?

What Can Be Patched In (hopefully)
- Improved encounter design
- Custom games
- Improved enemy AI (debatable; might be axed from the list)
- Improved variety of Patrol missions (possibly more context, too)
- Ability to skip cutscenes
- More loot drops for earlier levels
- Decreased loading times
- Public (proximity) voice chat
- Remove Orbs of Light from PVP
- PVP Mode with supers disabled
- Roaming enemies (kind or already are.. Moon pikes etc)
- More randomized enemy spawns, both static and roaming
- Ability to turn on flash light
- Change Strike boss encounter design (more challenging, less bullet sponge)
- Change PVP reward drop randomization (possibly axe random entirely)
- Increase frequency of public events
- Sparrow races So much this
- Option to go straight to starmap instead of orbital layer
- Penalty for leaving the instance (PvE & PvP), possibly reloading health and respawning enemies

What Should Arrive With Expansion Pack 1 (hopefully)
- In-game Clan Management - I think this should be implemented ASAP
- Guild Halls
- Fileshare
- Better story design/flow
- Grimoire in game would solve this.
- Clan-specific awards
- Clan challenges
- Clan + Friends settings
- Possibility of 4-man fireteams (?) - This is a good idea IMO
- Swappable loadouts - This is a must IMO (PvE vs PvP gear etc)
- Join Public Missions matchmaking
- Stats on certain Bonds ((?) legendary armor?) instead of being solely cosmetic

Again, people are free to debate on what's in the list. If the majority doesn't see a suggestion as necessary, it will be removed.

Spoilered what I think isn't required, highlighted what I love.

Overall, loving the game - I'm getting the story I need from the Grimoire and it's so good as a shared coop shooter/rpg, just don't go in expecting Mass Effect is all... :D

There should be some alien weapons like the Needler, Carbine, and red laser thingy.

Google images page of Halo Alien weapons. There are a lot.

Wow. Thanks very much for the research, I didn't expect it to be such a convoluted process. I'll see what I can do. Since the Vita only allows one account I'm not sure if I am willing to wipe.

I did it once for I:SS, but I think the screen kept dimming because the vita was left idle.
I couldn't figure out how to prevent that from happening.

Just tried the Moon strike at level 12. Me and my squadmates got MURDERED. I was playing with randoms, but even if I was playing with friends, I still felt underleveled.

Finished up the story, don't remember the last time I played something so incoherent. Oh well, thankfully I really, really enjoy playing it. Just shy of level 20, I'm curious to see how the level 20+ stuff works.

Now 5/5 on strikes with random team.

This pulse rifle is insane. Doing 100-120 a hit with super fast shooting and reloading. Just unlocked my rare gloves ability to increase reload speed with pulse rifles too. Woo this gonna be good

Bladedancer is so good. So, so good. PvP is finally clicking for me.

What is everyone playing as? How are you finding it? I might roll Titan next, but an exo Warlock is tempting (magic robot!).

You think that orbs of light in pvp shouldn't be removed?

i cleared out the grottos expecting to find some rare loot or something

every cave was empty. this is not how you make a loot-based game, bungie. I hope one of the expansions puts something here.

Pressing R3 near someone to get them in the firegroup helps immensly

The interface is clunky as shit but I managed to get some grouping which is how the game needs to be played to keep your sanity

I came very close to buying this game right after work on Tuesday. After reading through this thread and hearing the general consensus on the lack of content/terrible story I'm really glad I didn't. I only played the Alpha but those are pretty much the exact things I came away from it worried about.

I'll still most likely grab it eventually but...after a significant price drop or maybe expansion.

Just played the first Venus mission; actually really enjoyed it! Yes, the mission structure still boiled down to "press X to ghost, kill stuff, repeat," but the story was much more interesting. I had a reason to go there, and at thee end, there was some actual payoff, a whole cutscene with well-done dialogue and everything. Does this level of quality keep up?

gunslinger hunter. bladedancer is cool and all, but nothing is more satisfying than cutting battles short with the throwing knife and continuing a spree with 3 quick kills.

does the R3 thing only work on the default layout? I haven't figured out how to inspect a player at all on Jumper. Not without going through the Roster at least. I remember being able to do it in the alpha but the buttons were switched.

I leveled up Gunslinger pretty deep and enjoyed it, but the Bladedancer is more my style. You're right though - shooting three fools and watching them vaporize is preeeeetty great.

Pretty sure its L1+R1 to inspect if you're on Jumper.

Fusion rifle is pretty interesting. I just kind of started getting into them.

i think it's worth noting the guns generally all feel very good. I just started playing with a scout rifle and I usually hate this type of gun, but it's really solid. I think they spent a lot of time on the feel of the core guns rather than trying to include stuff that was really crazy up front.
Is 20 the cap?
30 is the hard cap, but you stop gaining levels via XP at 20.

Destiny |OT3| You're interesting. Not entirely interesting, but you have potential.

That line was like the summation of a lot of impressions I've been seeing about the game.

I know it maps to "O" on PS4 with the Puppeteer preset. I'm sure you still have it somewhere.

PvP is pretty standard fun though the higher levelers have that advantage. I had some fun with control. But back into the game, I finished up Earth, did some patrols and my random matchmaking for the Devil...whatever was pretty cool. I wish there were more Strikes for each area. Like 2 or 3. But I stopped at lvl 9. Having fun with the game so far. The story I have no idea what's going on. It's so bland that I just don't care.

Dumb question. I'm doing the Hunter class, and I was wondering what upgrades the Jump ability? Is that something that automatically levels up by gaining your overall level? Or can you speed that up by double jumping while getting kills?

Does the vast majority of PSN PS4 players not have a way to communicate, or is it that once you're in a fireteam, even people within PVP cant hear you?

Man I am really trying to enjoy the story but I just can't take it serious because it lacks so much. I just drudge through it and eventually say screw it and do multiplayer, which I find to be pretty good.

It isn't based on in-game actions.

All abilities level up from gaining xp in general. Top left to bottom right is the direction in which the abilities unlock.

Saw the Rift cutscene. Continuing to enjoy the surprising turn the story has taken away from dreadful Dinkledgian (tm) narration to actual acted cutscenes. Seems to have been lost in the previous page, but does the game keep it up?
