Looking at the thread´s replies, i find it easy to believe.
The problem here is that with a lot of these misconceptions there actually isnt a definitive right or wrong answer.
Let me give you a few examples:-
Misconception:- PC gaming is more expensive than consoles.
Yes it is a misconception that PC gaming is more expensive, if you are the type of person that buys $60 console games every month. Not every gamer is like that. What about the gamer who only buys his consoles used and plays 3/4 games a year, potentially used as well? Is PC gaming cheaper for him? Of course not. Doubly if this person doesnt pay for live or PS+.
Misconception:- PC gaming doesn't have any viable exclusives
Yes it is true that a PC gamer has access to decades of exclusive games as well as being able to emulate every console up to the PS2. But what if this console gamer has specfic tastes like JRPGs, fighters or Action games?
PC has improved on this front, but it still is nowhere near as good as consoles.
Misconception:- I don't want to have to fiddle with settings in game.
Yes it is true that the default configuration is more than enough for most modern games, hell man will auto configurate for you now.
But what happens when you want to play with a specific controller? Want to play from the couch? Want to emulate the console experience in big picture mode?
Misconception:- PCs have a lot more that can go wrong and are harder to trouble shoot.
While it is true, its very easy to trouble shoot problems most of the time and once a system is built properly outside of the odd components failure it is less or equal hassle as a console, it still cannot beat the convenience of just working or not.
I can go on, but for every scenario given in the OP, I can think of one instance where actually the "misconception buster" isnt true. Without fully understanding peoples circumstances (something you cannot hope to know without knowing them personally) you cannot definitvely say that PC gaming is a viable option for them.
Every person is different and more importantly, every PC is different.
People buy into consoles because they know what they are getting and outside a hardware failure (which is much eaiser to deal with) you are getting the same experience across the board.
Anyone who claims a PC is even remotely close to that is a liar and has been too conditioned by their accumlated knowledge and experience to look at things objectively.
