Mike Bithell (Thomas was Alone, Volume) talks a lot on twitter about Destiny UI and what he likes about it. He just posted a tumblr article about the things he likes (and the couple he did not like) about how Destiny's interface conveys information to the player. Some of the stuff about menu layouts and color schemes conveying information to players without explicitly telling them something is really interesting^^

Oh yeah forgot to mention the exclusive Strike is kinda lame. Every other strike has a nice final battle with a boss enemy of some kind - the exclusive one has 3 elite Psions (the Cabal enemies that hide and run away 90% of the time) with insane health and shields.
We were basically just kiting one at a time while whittling down it's health. Really boring.

Exodus Blue is a good map, though.

What's the quickest way to level your subclass. I'm at 22 now and want to start working on defender to get dat bubble shield for the harder strikes.

Destiny's UI is godtier. I love it.

I must have played for 8 hours straight yesterday, and really loved just about everything I played. It's a shame this game is being picked apart for not being this or that, while ignoring the fact the game is just a shit ton of fun. All of Destiny's "problems", are issues I've seen in just about every mmo/loot driven game I've played, with the difference being Destiny is actually fun outside the drive to collect more and more loot. And the pvp, which is something I didn't care about at all going in, is surprisingly really good and where I've spent a lot of time.

And playing on ps3 has been awesome as well. The visuals are still pretty good, and the best part is that it's always at 30 frames. For whatever reason, people have accepted playing games at 25 fps as long as it looks like The Last of Us or GTAV, which I think is bullshit.

You can add me if you want. I'm playing on PS3 too. Username is in my profile.

Man I don't understand PVP at all. When I had defense of about 160 at level 12 I was winning every match, getting kill streaks constantly and always top of the team.

Now I'm 13 with 300 defense much better weapons I'm getting destroyed constantly against everyone even low levels like 5-9. Even in 1 on 1 with full health I'm dead in seconds rather than actually have a fight.

Do people see themselves playing this in 8-12 months time?

Straight? No game does that (DOTA?^^), but if my past shooter habits have taught me anything it is that I will play a lot of this until either the Evil Within or Advanced Warfare tears me away then I will be back in December for the first DLC. If they support it well, then I will be bouncing back more often^^

Loving the game. Put in damn near 20 hours already.

Currently 23, trying to get ready for the Vault of Glass with my clan. Found this crazy legendary Sniper today. It's upgradable to the point where you can kind of use it like an AR, with fast aiming and reloads.

(Also woo first post, hi GAF!)

Hiya! Welcome!

The funniest part to me was right near the end, Dinkbot was like
"It's all starting to make sense!" to which I similarly yelled "WHAT IS" at my screen. Fucker doesn't elaborate one word beyond that either.

Whatever, I guess; I certainly didn't come into this game for the story.

I'm pretty sure it was nearly the exact same reaction over here hahaha.

Then
that ending cutscene that just fills the tower up with people(WHERE WERE YOU BEFORE), then a random back and forth with that person who was in one scene before and had no name.

Then it just boots your ass back to orbit.

There seems to be some hit detection or lag compensation etc. shit going on at times. I've seen lods of CoD:BO2 style "i put a mag into him and he kills me in one shot" or "i shot him and he then died a second to two later around the f'n corner".

I think that's part of what some are seeing as PvP imbalance.

Excellent. Mike Bithell is a God in my eyes so his opinion is one I'll 100% take note of. Thanks for the link.

Man, this game is seriously great. I was skeptical of it during E3 2013/2014 but it has grasped me. I went to the midnight release at the Microsoft store and purchased it only to win XO Seven Turtle Beach headphones even though I have no XB1:D

First Gaf post.

That is a very long time. Why 8-12 months?

I am not certain. I have played very few games for a years time. Only really Ultima Online, Diablo 2 / 3 or something like that.

Depending on how Bungie manipulates the current in game content ( how many things like Iron Banner there are and if there are things that unlock like that in PvE, etc. ) and how well the expansions end up adding to the game I could see myself playing this for a long time.

The game itself is incredibly fun. That much is certain. The weapons are fantastic. I am only lv. 16 but already fighting myself on what to train next. I know I want to be Bladedancer with my Hunter but actually sticking with my main Gunslinger tree as I want triple jump and dual throwing knives. I also have weapons now that are gathering my attention as they have great skill trees of their own that require ton of XP gaining to max the level of. So I am actually bypassing higher damage guns for the additional bonuses from these Rare items I've beginning to find.

I have to say that the game looks pretty good on PS3. I was expecting a really shoddy framerate but it's holding up well. I bet it's a real looker on next-gen hardware.

The way I'm thinking of going about it, is do bounties, and once in a while switch the class before I turn them in so I can get the basic stuff, such as double jumps and the super and whatever. Then I'll just use whichever subclass I need at the time.

Ok, what is happening here? I haven't jumped into PvP in the final game yet. I'm seeing you decimate people with BladeDancer, which looks incredible, but then I see that they are level 11s. Is it matchmaking you with others that have yet to unlock their own subclasses? How is that balanced at all?

Yeah that's a good idea. Or maybe in PVP when there's like less than a minute left I'll switch and get the post game xp towards that. Should work, right?

It's not.

Few questions:

What level is Dust Palace Strike? I'm still on Venus so I guess if I'm of level I should just hurry up and get to Mars to do it.

Do you get better/scaled up rewards from doing Strikes through Strikes Playlist, compared to just selecting Strikes from the world map?

Subclasses have their own leveling right? So I have to level up Sunsinger separate from Voidwalker.

Bungie.net site sure does help pass the time during boring uneventful work mornings

Love checking out all my various stats. Like ... I've completed 5 strikes and altogether took 1h 46m. 6 deaths total.

Just played some Rumble for the play 5 matches bounty and holy shit I got taken apart.
Everyone seems to be higher levels in that. I could unload a clip at them and they still had time to turn around and kill me before I'd even taken their shield down.
It's a bit annoying because I've found I'm actually quite good at the other modes, posting 2+ k/d most matches and I'd like to play some competitive free for all where I'm not just getting pasted through no fault of my own.
Leveling Advantages are disabled so they probably have better weapons with greater stats.

Ha, the loot myth is real!

Up to level 16, i've seen maybe 6 green engrams drop.

Yesterday as a fresh level 16, i get 5 in the first 10 minutes of the Venus strike.

Crazy

Doing Strikes through the playlist is better because all of them are set to whatever level you pick at deployment (18/20/22/24) and you always get a guaranteed blue reward at minimum on completion. Plus you get Vanguard Marks and a little rep.

I have not been doing ANY crucible since the Alpha/Beta - but it sure seems like folks are getting more/better loot drop from it than story/strikes. Is anyone else noticing a drop in encrypted engrams and 'good' lot in general in non crucible activities - or am I just imagining it / unlucky?

As good as this game is, I still just don't see any staying power. Not nearly enough addicting elements to the game. Not nearly enough dinging or shinies.
