Why haven't you bought a PC yet?

Just because you guys say most PC gamers have no problems and it's SO EASY doesn't make it true.

No, the fact that modern PC gaming is hassle free and straight forward for the vast majority of people with the vast majority of titles is what makes it true.

You keep talking about linux versus windows, and configuration issues with "lots of games" but are never very specific about what it is that is causing these problems.

Most people are not using linux.

Most people are not using esoteric hardware setups.

Most people are not doing more than the steam buy -> install -> autosettings -> play cycle.

Most people are not having any problems.

If you want to believe that it's all plug and play and Macs are esoteric (unlike the hardware in all those "Build a powerful PC off no-name parts" lol), then by all means do so. Believe it's all a conspiracy that people just hate PC gaming. That's the most fun game of all! I'm really not that interested in trying to convince evangelists why I'm not interested in their god though, so sorry I don't go into great details as to the problems I've had with games (I did have to install a beta driver to get Titanfall to work, but obviously that's my fault; who's ever heard of a MacBook before lol)

Getting pretty defensive there buddy.

@ no tessellation, High Grahpics, and no motionblur?

I would like to see that too.

Yea, it's still not happening. I can't even get rock solid 60 at 1080p on a GTX 760 and i5 4670k.

To be clear, this is vanilla LL. I haven't tried Redux yet on PC (waiting to get on PS4 for cheap)

He's right,
skyrim runs at like 4 fps on ps3 once your savegame gets big
console gamers will never tell you about this since it would contradict their bias, but in fact people have plenty of problems with getting games to run on consoles.

Dark souls will stutter and drop to like 10 fps in certain areas, I couldn't even fix it no matter how hard I tried. I don't have time to google why dark souls runs at 10 fps I just want to play games. It's weird because dark souls runs at 100+ fps on my pc, but that is probably because developers are able to get more out of a pc than they are out of a console with the same hardware.

Sniper elite v3 has a constant tear on the screen on xbox one, I don't want to deal with problems like that, it's so much easier to just enable vsync in the pc version and enjoy the game instead of deal with yet another bad port to consoles.

My ps3 loses connection to my DLNA media server pc for no reason (while my other devices have no issues)
Every time I put in a new game it says I need to do a firmware update which then takes 5-10 minutes... why doesn't it just let me play? I don't have time for this shit I'm not some 1337 gamer who has hours of time for video games I have a life!

(true story) A few months ago my ps3 crashed and got stuck on the wavy screen before the UI pops up after I rebooted it,
I had to google the problem on my pc (which is the only piece of hardware I can ever rely on to actually work in this house) and it turned out the ps3 hadn't shut down properly because of the crash and that my hdd got corrupted.
I tried many of the things suggested on google.
-Forcing shut down by holding down the button and let the ps3 try to repair the corrupted data, which didn't work as it just endlessly looped reboots between the data repair and the wavy screen, never gettign to the UI
-booting the ps3 in safe mode (instructions on google) force a factory reset of the settings
This did nothing
-my last resort was making the ps3 format the hdd and put back the bare OS
This did work
I lost all my savegames (it turns out I have to pay to back them up, I don't have time to research all this shit I have a life remember) and all my game installs.
I guess I should be grateful I was actually able to redownload some of them, because usually psn is down because it's either hacked or ddosed

I just wanted to play some bayonetta but instead I have to trouble shoot for 2 hours...
I can't even play gran turismo 5 anymore because I would have to go through the 1.5 hour installation (fyi this is how long it actually takes to install gt5) again and have to redownload all the patches, I don't have the time or willpower to do that shit... I can just boot my pc in 30seconds, and be in steam, boot up a game and load into a level and be playing games within a minute, none of that hassle of console gaming.

Speaking of hassle, when I come home after a long day of typing on my console at work, I just want to play games, I don't want to wait for loading screens that are 4x longer than on my pc, I just want to play not wait...

You can only buy a ps4 too because every pc gamer knows that microsoft consoles will just RROD, just like my 360 did 4 years ago, console gamers of course don't want to admit this even though my experience clearly says I'm right.
You can't expect people to be console experts and know all this stuff and buy the right hardware. I just went to a store and bought an xbox and got ripped off, meanwhile my pc works great.

Just waiting for j'aime and Xtra to come evengelize console gaming and try to force it down my throat by damage controlling all the stuff I listed above with their fanboy bias
My opinions are just as valid as their facts and context

Ok rate my impression of Xtra
I thought the contradiction within 4 sentences near very end was a nice touch personally.

Believe it's all a conspiracy that people just hate PC gaming.

Yet League Of Legends / World Of Tanks / World Of Warcraft / DOTA 2 have playerbases that dwarf any single console title you care to mention.
Millions of people obviously have no porblem whatsoever dealing with the rocket surgery called Pc gaming.

EDIT:
sorry I don't go into great details as to the problems I've had with games (I did have to install a beta driver to get Titanfall to work, but obviously that's my fault; who's ever heard of a MacBook before lol)

Titanfall isn't even officially available on the Mac you dumbass. Bootcamping IS doing esoteric stuff the hardware isn't designed for. If you're having problems bootcamping titles because you're using a mac not a PC, then please, please, please STFU about the PC being a "hassle" to use.
It's like bitching about how Linux sucks because you're using fucking OtherOS on the PS3.

The problem is that some PC gamers are taking it personally. Despite what those Microsoft commercials said, you are not PCs. People not being interested in PC gaming for whatever reason isn't an insult. It's okay not to be interested in something even if you disagree with the reasons.

I'd really like to see this i3 and 750ti run Metro LL at 1080p/60fps

Hint: it ain't happening

I have an i5 and a slightly overclocked 750 Ti and it plays Metro LL fine on Medium without AA. Obviously you can't play it at higher settings and I don't know how much a difference an i5 vs an i3 makes.

Also, I don't know what the PS4 settings are at though. I know the 750Ti delivers better performance on Titanfall than the XBONE, and I think its more powerful than the XBONE consistently.
Compared with PS4 it delivers better performance on Battlefield 4, but worse on AssCreed. So I think that compared with PS4 its hit or miss, and PS4 games will probably get better with time compared with a system with a 750ti.

So the 750 Ti is not a powerful card, but its competitive with the consoles. The EVGA 750 Ti SC I got is 139.99 (129.99 with rebate) right now at Amazon. It has been cheaper before.

I think its best use is if you already have a pre-built desktop (I have a Dell) and you want to add a graphics card without having to upgrade anything else. It doesn't require a new power supply or any cables. You just have to put it into the expansion slot and you're done.
Obviously, the value of the card depends on your circumstances. But its quite capable and comparable to the XBONE and PS4. You don't need to spend much on a graphics card to get decent performance.

Raised as a PC gamer since the age of 5 my dad started building them early. Played consoles throughout my childhood but my main was always PC. Nowadays I find myself on my consoles/handhelds more because honestly I got fed up with PCs always crashing, virus alerts, spyware, etc. Now I occasionally use my PC for DOTA2 and nothing else. Too much hassle and it's honestly not worth it, especially with the high cost of upgrades.

I'm not just talking about the past few years.

Then its even more irrelevant as the WiiU and PC are the only current platforms where BC is possible.

Edit: Seeing your post record in this thread you're clearly a vehement PC crusader. Your mind is made up. No point engaging further.

That's a fucking cop out.
"I don't play PC because there are endless titles that take forever or never come out at all on the PC. Here are the only 3 notable ones in the last 7 years. I won't say any more because you're 'a crusader' and I was talking about the entire history of gaming not its current present or foreseeable future anyway"

Nice.

I too use the PC mostly for emulation and arcade games. some indies too.
they're much better than on consoles.

the thing is, nowadays I can play PC games in the afternoon. any earlier time and I get tired or bored.

yet I can boot the dreamcast anytime without getting tired.

PC is very tiresome indeed if you are not used to it.

People not being interested in PC gaming for whatever reason isn't an insult. It's okay not to be interested in something even if you disagree with the reasons. Yes, PC gaming is a bigger hassle than console gaming, and while some enjoy tinkering, some don't. The less time I spend in Windows, the better. Different strokes for different folks.

I think for me, what I find objectionable is what I deem to be false claims or experiences people had with pc's in the 90's. Back then, there was certainly a learning curve to overcome when maintaining a pc and in some cases, it was a lot like hard work. Some people still think pc gaming is like that, when it isn't.

If I came into a console thread and gave my reasons for not liking consoles as "they only play games, nothing else", or "the controller wires get in the way", people would want to correct me. Not out of hurt pride but because I was wrong.

PC parts are crazy expensive here, consoles are much cheaper.
While I agree PC can be cheaper in the long run, but I buy 3-4 new games a year (1, max 2 at full price) because I have very limited time to play. So I don't care if I can get more games for the money when I don't have the time to play them.
Also, I know building and set up a PC is not a big hassle (did it in the '90s), but I don't want to waste any of my time for it.
My best companion these days is my PS Vita, very easy to pick up and play, then suspend the session.

You should probably read those lists if they're what you're basing your "endless games" claim on.

"Endless" was not meant to be taken literally.

And it was literally 1 minute of Wikipedia research. I'll try to put together something more comprehensive and persuasive when I get some time.

1. Money. Not that they're too expensive, I just can't justify the costs because...
2. None of my friends are on PC so there's no point.
3. Games I tend to play either never come out for PC or are announced months after.
4. No basic desire to own one.
5. Too much fiddling and worrying about specs and other such things. I just wanna turn it on and play.
6. I, admittedly, have a rather negative view of PC gamers and the PC experience.

Not you specifically but i get the sense that many people believe that console exclusivity automatically elevates a game to a higher status.

Edit: Also not a fan of console gamers telling me i'm not truly experiencing gaming if i'm not playing the next Uncharted or whatever console shooter happens to be out at the time.

This is probably the best post I read from this thread. I game on both PC and console. I do like some games on PC (tbh, really addicted playing it) but I still think console suites my taste better. People can have opinions. There is no right or wrong and I don't see what the point of trying to convince console gamers how inferior their choice of gaming is compared to PC.

The indie boom in part made me a PC gamer. I grew up with Nintendo and Sony, and now I consider PC to be on par with those (I prefer handhelds to PCs and consoles, though). Reasons:

- I find that it's a myth that you need an uber expensive monster PC... Depending on taste, I guess, but I'm rocking a wimpy 2011 all-in-one HP PC and it plays every single thing I buy with very few exceptions (see: Trials Fusion :/). Then even if you have an ancient PC, you probably can play indies which are awesome. Last night I grabbed the current Humble Bundle and I went to bed at 2 a.m. because Gunpoint is brilliant and it probably runs on a toaster.

- PCs are not cheap, but you I need one anyway and the games ARE cheap. I hate to admit it, and I swear it's the first time I do it, but about the Humble Bundle I just mentioned... I paid one dollar for it, lol. I have a huge collection of PC games that have been insanely cheap and high quality.

- Ownership... See, I understand this point. On consoles I always buy physical, I've never bought a digital game that is available in physical form. But there's more to PC gaming than Steam! I buy lots of games on GOG, Humble Store and Play-ism among other sites. Those games are mine forever, I can back them up easily and I'll be able to play them on future PCs. And even if Steam does tomorrow, I bet it'll be addressed immediately by the PC community.

So yeah, PC is an amazing addition to my "roster" of gaming platforms. Being a shill and downplaying other systems is dumb, though, but let's not pretend console fans don't do this.

Okay.

Because your initial statement was:
AAA blockbuster console games eventually find their way to PC (Destiny, GTAV, Read Dead Redemption, the list is endless )

So: AAA multiplats that don't end up on PC or take a significant time delay to do so.
I maintain that you listed the only three Western developed ones.

In the meantime R* can make their new-gen bizucks on piracy-free console platforms!

/Ron Burgundy "I don't believe you".gif

F2P is the PC industries simple response to uncontrollable piracy. We get the games we deserve.

Never again we will see Unreal, Crysis or any PC exclusive title push graphical or technological boundaries. Keep begging for those console ports guys!

Comfy Couch PC gaming is a myth. Like bigfoot.

I don't have a game worthy PC right now.

Good for TCR. Good for SSM. Just reaffirms my faith in my decision to get a PS4. Sony are picking up some dynamite indie exclusives like The Witness, Galak-Z, etc.

And selfishly I'm happy TCR can PS4 spec visuals. Dear Esther was gorgeous and I can only imagine what they'll pull off with Sony's hardware and support. Obviously not suggesting certain PCs aren't capable of PS4 quality visuals but there's gotta be some downside in needing to support a spectrum of rig specs.

Better games means better gaming.

Ouch bro,

Because PC components are overpriced in my country. I'd much rather go with a beefier notbook, and I'm pretty sure I eventually will. When the new UT comes out. (I secretly hope there will be a Linux version.)

Honestly it's easier than ever. You should visit this thread which has some of the nicest and most helpful people on GAF. They will happily provide builds for you or help you with any questions you have. And you have a whole bunch of video tutorials for building now or you could get it built at a specialist shop.

That's very detailed and seems easy to follow. Thanks for pointing me to that thread. I subscribed for future consideration, considering my laptop is nearing its end.

It's more putting it together that freaks me out more than buying the parts. I know I could follow tutorial videos but what if something happens that isn't covered in the video? What do I do then? Google it? Stuff like that frustrates me and makes me wary at even attempting. I'd rather buy all the parts that I want, give it to someone with experience in building PCs, and say "put it together."

Why ouch?

I take back the comfy couch comment but pretty much stand by everything else.

Wow you PC guys are zealous.

I'm zealous
I'm pointing out the irony of you digging up the other guy's post history
then you call me zealous for digging up yours to point out you have quite the history of trolling pc threads and show a clear console warrior attitude.

I'm zealous ok
You played the post history card to try n shut down an argument by another poster.

The new UT was confirmed for Linux when it was announced on twitch, if I recall correctly

Think his point was that you're calling someone else a pc crusader yet your posts show you're a console warrior at heart.

That makes me a console crusader?

I wrote a pretty length post in this very thread just a few pages back about why I chose not to continue buying and upgrading an expensive, cutting-edge PC rig. Publishers and developers moved their focus (for the types of games I like to play) to consoles.

When we see $50 million plus PC exclusives that push visual boundaries the way Crisis did I'll definitely reconsider.

I think I even mentioned in my post the tide might be turning with titles like Star Citizen.

Please explain to me how those quotes were 'trolling PC threads'. What about them was untrue?

Also I wasn't digging up his post history. I was reading this thread.

How long ago were my posts?

I don't mind when some people say they don't want to get into PC gaming or just aren't interested in it. PC and console gaming are different things and I get that.

What I hate seeing is all the misinformation and misconceptions people have about PC gaming. Some of which are becoming very apparent in this thread.

If we are going to make lists like these than should we also compile a list of all of the flash, browser, and no-name garbage games on steam and compare "exclusives".

I never said there weren't a greater number of PC exclusives. I provided the list to justify the comment I made (that was challenged) that there are more than 3 relevant console exclusives in the past 7 years.

Except those wikipedia articles prove the exact opposite, which is why I suggested you read them.

You're saying there are no more than 3 console exclusives on these lists that are relevant? Including first party titles? I never mentioned multiplatform, you did.

"Consoles" by its nature implies a plural.

The titles you listed are AAA multiplatforms.

I am still awaiting those "endless more".
