This blows my mind. Has Bungie written up anything explaining all the stat categories?

I don't think so. You can mouseover stats to get more details though. Attack and Defence are the two weird ones. I believe they are essentially simple modifiers/multipliers to damage given and taken respectively. They are turned off in standard crucible modes.

The descriptions are all below. Some are a bit confusing to be honest. Attack in particular.

Rate of Fire: "The number of shots per minute this weapon can fire"
Impact: "The damage inflicted by each round"
Range: "Increases the effective range of this weapon"
Stability: "Decreases weapon recoil when fired continuously"
Reload: "Decreases the time it takes to reload this weapon"
Magazine: "The number of shots which can be fired before reloading"
Blast Radius: "Increases the explosion radius of this weapon"
Velocity: "Increases the speed of projectiles fired by this weapon"
Charge Rate: "Rate at which the weapon charges"

Blast radius & velocity are on rocket launchers, and charge rate is on fusion rifles

ATTACK: Higher Attack allows your weapons to damage higher-level opponents
DEFENCE: Reduces incoming damage from your enemies

Light increases your level, increasing the damage your abilities deal against higher-level enemies
Intellect reduces the cooldown time of [Current Super], allowing you to use it more often
Discipline decreases the cooldown time of your grenades...
Strength decreases the cooldown time of your [Special Melee], allowing you to use it more often

Armor increases the amount of damage you can take before dying
Recovery increases the speed at which you regain lost health
Agility increases your movement speed and maximum jump height

Aw man, my new fancy AR has pretty bad stability. Need to upgrade that ASAP.

I kinda know that feel.

I've kind of stalled. I've hit 21 and I can't seem to find anymore gear to level myself up. That and all my gear is maxed out, save for my weapons. Hopefully I find some new gear soon.

Oh, right! I still haven't posted up and pics of my titan ^_^

Redundant implies there's an end goal. If you're planning on doing something official with it maybe it should be an OP, people can contribute to it and you'd say, like, "Okay, in a week, Deej gets this and we all sign it" or something?

But that's effort, though. I ain't got time for effort.

Actually, that's a good idea. I have no idea why I didn't think of doing that. The "send it to Deej" part, not its own thread.

Yeesss. Where is Dax when you need her?

Playing Destiny without us.

;-;

Getting blue engrams that turn out to be green items, or legendary engrams that turn out to be blue items...is just the fuckng worst.

How many pvp maps are there? The few matches I've played I've gotten my ass handed to me. I can't stand the feeling of not knowing the maps. Running around aimlessly is not fun :(

From what I've heard, you should hold onto your legendary engrams until you get your cryptarch rank up higher. At lower levels it's just a waste.

Man, I found a great lvl. 20 rare scout rifle, but I just can't put down my lvl. 18 Sahara AR-3. I believe it is the fastest firing primary in the game, and I was able to get an increased stability bonus on there... being able to hold the gun perfectly steady into the face of a Cabal is extremely satisfying.

The OTHER light stat you're thinking of is more complicated. Basically, level 20 is the soft cap for Destiny. Once you get there, you can continue going on to level 21-30, I think, by equipping legendary gear. Legendary/exotic armor, gloves, helmets, etc have a new light stat once you're 20. You stack this light stat through this item which levels you up beyond level 20. The raid for example is at a minimum of level 26, so you're gonna need to grind crucible marks and vanguard marks to get stronger gear from the vendors.

thanks for the explanation, although how do we obtain these legendary armors with light?, is it purely random drops?, are the legendary items purchased from the speaker just starting light armor?, does the armor from the factions also contain this light?,

I think I understand how it all works, but I'm not sure how and where to find these legendary items with light

Loving the game so far, but man does PVP (I've only played control) feel like it's missing something. Maybe I've been playing too much Titanfall, but there's nothing dramatic, urgent, or visceral here and that's a letdown.

probably a dumb question, but all these screenshots of peoples characters and the individual gun stats, are these screenshots off the new consoles? Or are people taking pics of their tv screens?

iunno, man, if you don't make a thread for it it's going to get eaten by a new page in 20 minutes.

I had one like that myself. Continuous fire made it more accurate, but it wasn't even worth it.
It's manageable. There's a stability upgrade that I'll definitely be going with eventually.

Use it I'm burst fire e.g. Fire for short periods at longer distances. At short distance just be prepared to push your sight down.
Yup. I can deal with it for now.

It's just moronic that your shit isn't set to public by default, and even more idiotic that it doesn't remember your settings.

This does not friggin promote finding people to play with, Bungie.
If anyone is wondering how to do this on X1, you have to go to friends and then my profile. You'll see Destiny to the right with "Join In". Click that and then Change "Require Invites" to "Set to joinable". Weird....lol

Guys the PS exclusive stuff was for all Playstation owners, right? Didn't need to buy a special edition? How do I find these ? I pre-ordered on Amazon, if it makes any difference.

So they changed the default brightness to 4 on the brightness setup screen. Was a default of 2 in the beta. What is everyone playing on?

My TV is properly calibrated, should I leave it at 4? The symbol is distinctly visible on 4, and "barely visible" at 2...but 2 looks quite dark in game. I feel like there's something wrong with that screen, if you make it just visible it introduces black crush in game.

How do I get my preorder bonus? I think it's called vanguard armory.

You first need to redeem that item at PSN store [same page as your Destiny game], and then you can go to the Vanguard Quartermaster. He is located near to Shipwright, and he will be marked for you twice when weapons get unlocked [once at lvl5 and once at lvl10].

My god, is anyone else constantly losing connection to the Bungie servers on PS4? It's so frustrating doing a mission and getting booted. Playing control on crucible and no warning I lose connection.

I don't think it's my internet because I don't lose connection to PSN and my NAT is type 2.

Yeah some rare armor I've gotten from the crucible randomly has had light points so there's definitely that way. The speaker's items are purely cosmetic and have no stats whatsoever. Just capes for hunters bonds for warlocks etc. that look really cool. So don't worry about those. The armor from the factions DOES have light which is why once you're 20 you should be doing bounties a lot to get rep and marks for the factions. Also the vanguard playlist you unlock at 18 will get you rep and marks as well as the possibility for high level gear.

I have a charging dock though.

That helps.

I always keep it on standby so it can download patches and updates when i am not around.
Another fun part is that you can buy games online (PS+) from your phone and your PS4 will turn on and download it remotely.

If you have a Vita, you'll want standby for remote play.

Just a quick note, if you connect remotely over your phone, your PS4 will turn on and will most likely turn on your tv as well, which may or may not freak out your family because of ghosts in the machine.

Can someone tell me if your character ARMOR, RECOVERY and AGILITY take affect at all in pvp outside of iron banner matches? because my hand cannon which was doing 3 body shots to ko keeps leaving people with health after 3 chest hits, and sometimes it's not.

I thought all armor and weapon damage was normalized outside of the iron banner? it would be nice to know what exactly carries over to pvp, I know weapon mods like reload speed and ammo counts do.

Yikes! Very disheartening getting owned in multiplayer. Me no want to play that anymore.

I know the feeling. Makes me question the "level" playing field. How people can melt me with 3 auto rifle bullets I'll never know

I'm pretty decent at videogames, but playing seeing some guys in Multiplayer is like goddamn wizardy to me. How can you be that good at a game that has been out for 3 days?

So it's not just me! *sigh of relief*

After playing Destiny off and on for a few days (taking my time, currently on Venus) a few thoughts to throw into the sea of opinions:

+ The moment to moment gunplay continues to be really satisfying and the draw of the experience. The interplay between melee, grenades and supers combined with player mobility, environment layout and Bungie's AI sensibilities is good enough to make shortcomings in other areas less glaring when you're in the thick of it.
+ I like the austere, dreamlike presentation, don't really care that the narrative beats are uninspiring. Not what I come to games like this for, and Destiny takes itself seriously enough that too much focus on story could end up hurting the experience.
+ I find I enjoy the game most when I embrace the downtime. There's something compelling about mixing up missions, strikes, patrol and pvp for 15-30 minutes apiece with trips to The Tower in between. Shorter load times would improve the flow significantly.
+ UI is super clean and smartly designed, maybe my favorite in gaming. Bravo on that front.
+ The theme that plays while in orbit is really lovely.

- The Tower is just active enough to work as a small MMO town but disappointing as Destiny's central location. Why should I care about these vendors and their factions? Why is everything level 20? Is there no personality or conversation in the future?
- Continuing on that thought, while the atmosphere works the game often feels too distant for it's own good. Locations look nice but lack a lived in feel and don't tell a story the way a Naughty Dog or Irrational environment does.
- While the narrative itself doesn't bother me the mission structure indeed lacks creativity and is overly repetitive. Not a dealbreaker since the gunplay holds up but it's absolutely there and a glaring weakness.
- Been kicked out of missions 3 times already with a server error message, once right near the end. Idling is frowned upon as well. Very frustrating, even for online only the game is too eager to send you back to orbit.
- There should be matchmaking for everything. For a game meant to be played with other people grouping up with players is surprisingly cumbersome. Random invites in the wild with no way of knowing what that person is looking to accomplish isn't social, it's obnoxious. Who decided 4 emotes was satisfactory for player interaction?
- What happened to public events? Haven't seen a single one and I've done a bunch of wandering around in patrol.

Positive impressions overall, even if not every problem can be addressed by a patch or DLC it's a promising foundation that I want to spend more time inside.

Hey Im new here by the way, my PS4 is my primary gaming console but for FPS games I still use my Xbox One. I played the Alpha and the Beta on my PS4 but for shooters I'm much more proficient with an Xbox controller in my hand so I decided to purchase Destiny on my X1.

Sorry to hear about the problems, for what its worth I have had the same thing happen to me but only once since I purchased it on launch day. Luckily, even if you are mid mission it allows you to pick up where you left off. So while annoying, at least its not devastating in terms of progress lost. Must be a bungie server thing in general.

Is TDM unlocked yet? What level do I need to be for that?

I'm Lvl 11.

Should be unlocked after level 5.
You might have to play a round of control first I don't remember.

It unlocked for me after playing Control once at level 6 I think.

Here's confirmation:

You have to play one round of Control, once it's unlocked, to unlock TDM. Similarly, you have to play one round of TDM to unlock Free For All (Rumble), and one round of Rumble to unlock Skirmish (3v3 TDM).

I'm not backing down from the statement I made in the Withdrawal thread.

If I were to get trapped inside a video game as my avatar, I'd want to get trapped in Destiny.

You can already tell I'm suffering from lack of a Log Horizon Season 2
