Did anyone notice ROB has Virtual Boy colors (not an alt, just colors)?

Between that and Charizard's seismic toss, you have to wonder if someone was paying attention to some of the really creative stuff Project M has done.

I dunno, a VB alt is pretty obvious. Especially since he shoots red death lasers.

I don't doubt that Ridley grabbed Pikachu, but I don't get why this is a big deal. Grabbing is a big part of Ridley's boss fights and it wouldn't be surprising if they made it part of his boss moveset. Even Master Hand can grab. It's certainly not a normal grab since he's in the air.

I believe he's implying that Ridley can air grab since flying is a big part of who he is.
Also, the fact that it looks just like a character grabbing another character while one mashes out with a jump escape.

The new stages that are there are great--but there are fewer new stages total in the 3DS version than there were new stages in Melee. There are also huge gaping holes in stage representation--Mario has four new stages, but Smash mainstay series Donkey Kong, Metroid, Star Fox, etc. all are represented solely through a single retro stage, many of which are Melee stages from 13 years ago that were already brought back once before. There are also fewer stages in Smash Bros. 3DS than there were in Brawl period--had this happened to characters there would have been blood in the streets. The ratio of new stages to old stages is more weighted to the old stages than in any previous Smash. Many of the stages use old Brawl music for one (or in Pictochat 2's situation, both!) songs.

In fewer words, it's not good.

There's 25 new stages in 3DS from what I see, 24 were new in Melee. There's 34 stages versus 41 in Brawl, which is pretty damn good considering the Wii U version's own unique stages will probably put Smash U/3DS at around 60 new stages. Going off the stage trends, franchises not represented with a new stage in 3DS will likely be represented by one in the Wii U version. If you don't want or aren't getting both versions, then tough luck I guess...

In other news, the F-Zero and Magicant stages are absolutely amazing. I was really disappointed by the stage screen from the leak, but seeing these two in action really eases the pain. Awesome, awesome stages.

How can Sakurai treat Mother so well yet so badly at the same time?

Is there a good place to see the alts of the hidden characters? I've only seen Mario Classic Wario and NES ROB.

To be honest, the Seismic Toss is something I've been wanting Charizard to have since Brawl, and I had no idea it was in Project M. A lot of the changes were highly requested (like Ike's blue flames), and any similarities to Project M are probably just coincidental.

It's not really that, it's more that he grabbed Pikachu and did nothing. Pikachu broke away. The only other boss with a grab you can breakaway from is Master Hand, and Master Hand moves you to the center of the stage while he's doing that. But Ridley just flat out wasn't doing shit.

I really don't think the ESRB leak ruined anything.

The only remaining newcomers that had not been shown were Dark Pit, Bowser Jr, and Duck Hunt Dog.

Dark Pit is a clone, and probably wasn't expected to generate a lot of excitement. That leaves just two new characters that we wouldn't have known about - Bowser Jr and Duck Hunt Dog.

That's really not a lot, and I definitely think many would still be somewhat disappointed had the leak never occurred.
DHD and Bowser Jr. were both really surprising ones though. The reaction (or, at least my reaction) for the Shulk trailer was muted, I thought.

Hard to say if it was good or bad. It had that long period of 'oh, is this real?', so we had time to adjust to the possibility. But that works both ways. By the time we got the game we were already happy about the surprises, and sad about the losses. Lucas, ICs, and Wolf fans would probably be a lot more disappointed right now if not for the leak.

Get a great Mother stage that shits all over New Pork, but lose one of the boys. Bittersweet.

I like the roster a lot. I liked it when it leaked as well, but I will admit this “is it complete?” drama took something out of the experience for me

Anyway, I’m fairly certain there will be no character-based DLC. I think this is the final “now and forever” roster. Here’s why:

1. Sakurai painted himself into a corner by stating each version will remain in parity as it relates to characters. What happens when it’s released? It seems unlikely they’d force you to buy DLC for both (double dipping), but it seems less likely they’d give you both versions for the “price” of one

2. Along these lines, new characters will be much harder to make then a traditional single-console game. Not only will they QA and balance against 50+ characters, but they have to do it twice across 70+ stages and god knows how many modes.

3. Every roster (save for 64) has "blank" spaces and inverted pyramid design. Nothing about the CSS implies additions are coming

4. There appear to be no “hooks” for the DLC, nothing to tease at it. For example, Ice Climber and Rhythm Heaven characters are categorized as “Other”. There appears to be no room for additional franchise stages. Nothing in the credits implies DLC.

5. Finally, consider the characters that are missing. Are they truly hype enough that they’d warrant DLC? Existing characters like Wolf or Ice Climbers, all of which have easily explained reasons for being cut? New longshot characters like Choir Boys? Doesn’t sound likely. All the hype, 3rd party and “WTF?!” characters – all typically prime candidates for DLC – are in the final roster already

I’m willing to take any bet out there. This is it. This is the final roster.

Anyone else think that the only newcomers in the starting roster should have been Mega Man, Pac-Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina & Luma, and Villager? Imagine if there was no ESRB leak and today during the streams was our first time seeing characters like Shulk, Greninja, Little Mac, etc?

To all people wanting to play as Young Link, Mewtwo, Roy, and/or Pichu

Play Melee :v

To all people wanting to play as Squirtle, Ivysaur, Snake, Lucas, Wolf, and Ice Climbers

Play Bra-- I mean Project M :v

To all people wanting to play as Chorus Kids...

And that's why Chorus Kids fans have it worse than any one fan of a veteran :v

True.

The vets are still playable in some form, at least.

Project M didn't even come up with the VB idea. People were recolouring ROB in Nintendo console colours when texture hacks were new since recolours were basically the only thing people could do.

I don't think it's that obvious, and it's probably Project M's most creative alt idea. It just wowed me with how absolutely perfect it was but I never would have expected it.

But basically in Smash 4, ROB has a red and black color alt. Not quite as impressive, but still a neat nod to the VB.

I completely agree - I'm just still holding on to some hope that Ice Climbers will be a free update of some kind.

I'll get to play Ice Climbers again in a new Smash in 2022.

Animal Crossing characters are out of question, Sakurai said it.
Mega man is dead, not even Capcom wants him.
Who cares about Wii Fit?
Rosalina will be a Peach clone
All Little Mac can do is punch, his moveset would be boring
Why would they choose just one of the starters? And XY was announced after SSB started development
People only say Palutena because of a single game in 25 years of a dead franchise.
Miis are not characters, why would they appea in a game all about iconic characters?
Just because Namco is working in the game doesn't mean they will get a rep. Also Pacman is the worst character ever
Lucina? Why would they choose a character just to be another Marth? Chrom the only FE rep we will get
Robin doesn't even have a default form. And again, Chrom is in
Shulk is a one off character that no ones know. He is the worst character from Xenoblade
Dark Pit is an alt for Pit
Bowser Jr? Yet another Mario rep, if Waluigi is still an AT, he has no chance
Duck Hunt? what kind of stupid name is this?

Confirmed.

Not exactly useless, it has unlockable customs, trophies, as hell as Nintendo nostalgia up the ass and something fun to do for seven minutes a pop.

It likely won't get much play on my end aside from getting the unlockables. Going to have trouble finding local opponents in my area.

Sakurai has already stated he isn't going to even think about DLC until the games are out. He doesn't even know what he's going to do yet, and he certainly isn't going to hold back any "hype" characters intentionally that could've been in the game otherwise.

DLC is probably coming, but it's going to be a Mario Kart 8-esque 6-12 month wait. And that 6-12 month timer may not even start until the Wii U version is released.
