Considering Sakurai didn't completely dismiss DLC when the topic came up a year and a half ago, and seeing what Nintendo is doing with MK8, I'm still leaning towards the idea that there is going to be some stuff staved off until the Wii U release.

Yeah, it hurts to see people disappointed. It's just another example of why we shouldn't get too emotionally invested in these things. Also why we maybe shouldn't say "I bet someone shops Ridley's shadow in by the end of the night", lol. But it was probably gonna happen one way or another regardless.

4 cuts = Snake, ICs, Lucas, and Wolf.
Squirtle and Ivysaur aren't counted for whatever reason but I think it's just because, based on Zard's reveal, it was a given they were going to be gone too. (Though, personally, I'd count them as cuts as well because they did feature full unique move sets).

So where could I stay up to date on finding out about Lucas and Ice Climber trophies? I'm still holding out hope that they're DLC characters.

Not counting Squirtle and Ivysaur and not counting all three Miis doesn't really seem right. There's no reason to exclude Miis from anything, they're 99% integrated into the game as proper characters.
Can't believe people would think that Bleach guy is in the game!

I really don't think the ESRB leak ruined anything.
The only remaining newcomers that had not been shown were Dark Pit, Bowser Jr, and Duck Hunt Dog.
Dark Pit is a clone, and probably wasn't expected to generate a lot of excitement. That leaves just two new characters that we wouldn't have known about - Bowser Jr and Duck Hunt Dog.
That's really not a lot, and I definitely think many would still be somewhat disappointed had the leak never occurred.
