How can I forget about my boo Karyn White lol.

Karyn White - Romantic

Karyn White - The Way I Feel About You

Also,

Tara Kemp - Hold You Tight

You guys really should make a separate thread for 2000's R&B. It's making it confusing.

Karyn White was my childhood crush....holy moly

And I second a 2000s R&B thread.

Oh hey, you know who else I forgot about?

Janet Jackson.

Which is a pretty huge fuckin oversight, considering how large she was. People talk about Michael and Dangerous, but people forget that Scream was seen as having to piggyback off Janet's cred to get some of his own back. Because Janet was THE Jackson that mattered in the 90s, not Michael.

You forgot one of my favorite songs from her. Just a stunningly beautiful song:

Janet Jackson - Come Back To Me

Any song by SWV.

This

And You by Jesse Powell.
That's the way love goes by Janet Jackson
Anytime, Any place by Janet Jackson
All Around The World - Lisa Stanfield
Sally - Sade
Smooth Operator - Sade
How Can I Ease The Pain - Lisa Fischer
Something in My Heart - Michel'le

I was wrong, it's 14 of R&B goodness. :)

I also cheated and went a little into 2000, and started in 1987 (Just Got Paid, Johnny Kemp, considered to be the birth of New Jack Swing)

I might have missed it one of the mega-lists, but let me also add some lesser-known 90's R&B gems:

Anywhere by 112
All Good by Mo Thugs
Let's Ride by Montell Jordan
Nobody's Supposed To Be Here by Deborah Cox
Be Careful by Sparkle
My Love Is The Shhh by Something For The People
Swing My Way by KP and Envyi
My Body by LSG
Freak Like Me by Adina Howard
Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder) by Maxwell

My #1 choice would be Too Close by Next, but that's been stated multiple times already.

A sleeper great song.

Kut Klose - I Like

Known for their bit parts in 2 Keith Sweat songs, they had 1 CD.

Nice and smooth tune. Not over dramatic or belting out the vocals at any chance. These are the type of female group songs I Like *wink*. Where it is approached like typical song and it just happens to be girls singing they don't go over the top because you know girls be emotional.

This is a 90's R&B thread that started in 2014, right? How come in the span of about two years no one mentioned Me'Shell Ndegeocello?

I did a CTRL + F on each page. Nothing.

Anyway, she is criminally underrated. Plantation Lullabies fit the definition of "Neo Soul" before the term was conceived. The most well known song is Outside Your Door. Not only is it known for her sultry delivery but it was known for its intro being, for lack of a better term, stolen wholesale by Brian McKnight for his song Anytime.

Another very little known artist is ambersunshower. Not much is known about her aside from what's on her Wikipedia page. I admit to sleep on her when she first came out, thinking she was a Badu clone. I was wrong. She had a more hip-hop sound compared with the more organic sounds of Baduizm. Running Song is pretty much Loose Ends' Hangin' on a String. Still a fun listen.

Other Songs

Horace Brown - Things We Do For Love (Remix)

Alonzo Hunter - Just The Way (Playas Play)

Tasha Holiday - Just The Way You Like It

Mona Lisa - Can't Be Wasting My Time

DRS - Gangsta Lean

Karyn White - The Way You Love Me is my all-time favorite. Jammed to that sooo much 1989-1990 (released in 1988).

~And I Love~.... ~And I Love~....~The Way You Love Me~

The Way You Love Me (12'' Hype Remix)

omg... Yes! Karyn White is my girl. That made me think of another awesome R&B artist, Jody Watley. This song was released in 1987, but it deserves to be in this thread. Close enough dammit. lol

Jody Watley - Don't You Want Me

Also, not sure if she has been mentioned yet, but Lisa Stansfield is great too. Love that 90's British R&B/Pop sound.

Lisa Stansfield - All Around the World

And the wonderful Lisa Fischer:

Lisa Fischer - How Can I Ease the Pain

Lisa Fischer - Send the Message of Love

Also, I bet Babyface produced 80% of the songs in this topic lol
