Still don't know that I want to upgrade my 680 for $550. Not sure that the 970 would be enough of an upgrade, either.

For what it's worth, I'm going to be sticking with my 660 Ti for a while longer. A $300 970 would shake things up but it's still a capable enough card.

Dude's got 'em for sale now, tho. I think if I were to go SLI, I'd need a new power supply and possibly case, too, so it might be worth it to stick to just one.
I'm having trouble believing that price point, personally. Weren't the 670 and 770 both $399?

They don't. You need an Nvidia card and a display port to be able to use G-Sync.

Can't speak for gsync personally but I have my PS4 hooked to my 27" ASUS IPS and I much prefer the colors to that of my 55" LG TV.

Well, I thought they might also have HDMI ports for other components. Currently, I live with a flatmate, so I have my consoles and PC hooked to a TV I use as a monitor. I'll have to have an all-in-one solution until I get my own place in the future, so a GSync monitor isn't really on my radar currently.
I'll be monitoring this thread religiously over the next couple of days. Need that 970, hopefully we don't see any price gouging.

Gotcha. Well I'm not sure if the new G-Sync monitors come with DVI/HDMI/DP. I have a modded Asus and it only has a display port.
Maybe someone here with a Asus ROG G-sync monitor can tell you if it has the extra ports or not.

I just bought most of my system and the parts arrive tomorrow, just waiting on these video cards to be announced. I'm hoping to get 2x 980's if they're 500 or less. Bring on TW3!

SLI support has been awful in recent games (although it was nice that they fixed Titanfall after a couple of months). I have 2x780 and I don't think I will be buying a SLI setup the next time. So my advice would be to pay the extra 50$ for a single 980.
Edit: Although SLI can be the right choice if you want to go through a backlog of games that you know support SLI and want to experiment with downsampling/sgssaa at high frame rates.
I'm not unhappy with my 2GB 670(MSI Power Edition OC), but if I can get a 970 for £250-270, I'm doing it without question. With Ryse, GTAV, Project Cars and The Witcher 3 coming up, I'd be quite happy to have something a bit nicer.
Would probably end up upgrading again later next year, but that's fine. After reselling the cards, its hardly going to cost me that much extra.

AMD has been sitting atop on price/performance since the 280/290 release.
Nvidia is looking to take that crown with the 970, but the 750 ti/970/980 releases have been marginal performance improvements, instead focussing on efficiency improvements.

My mate works for a local disty and the price estimate he gave me matches the rumors so far, i.e. ~$330 and ~$550 for 970 and 980 respectively.
The distributors already have the stock right now and retailers should have it by Friday / Monday latest. Expect limited stock for 970 as manufacturers are aiming for higher profit/revenue from the 980.

Matrox and S3 are still going? I remember Matrox making the first 256 bit card. I also had a card in the 90's when the 3d card field was still wide open. Much better than the Cirrus Logic I had, but still a piece of shit. Matrox never die though.

In other words, anyone who wants a 970 : buy one immediately as they release, as retailers will use the limited stock to jack up the prices (despite msrp) of their stock in the weeks after release.

I got the Matrox in 95 when 3d cards were starting to take off. At the time I was dumb as shit and picked up the Matrox when the ATI card was endorsed by SIGGRAPH. I only picked up the Matrox because it was cheaper and the main purchases my father was making for me was a bigger harddrive and more ram. Matrox was still a piece of shit. Killed the Cirrus Logic I had in the Packard Bell before, but still a piece of shit.

Frankly, I agree with you. L.O.R.D just seems to be interested in a narrative that says things are bad for Nvidia, and great for AMD.
Argh, I get paid on Wednesday next week. Hopefully I can still snag a 970 by then. Trumps the 770 from what it seems, and I was going to buy that instead. I can hope.
