Well fuck Aussie retailers and their overpriced bullshit then (Although maybe it's not entirely their fault). GPU's are usually packed well in the box, and then Amazon packaging is pretty safe, so the chances of getting a DOA would be fairly low. Fantastic, cheers for the knowledge, easily just saved me tons of money down the line! :)

If only our dollar was still 1:1 like it was going back that while ago :(

Unless that is a trash PSU you won't need an upgrade. I'd be surprised if the power draw isn't less than the card type using atm.

500w is plenty for either card as long as it's not some dog of a PSU.

UK wise all the major sites are listing stock. Not sure about the ROW.
 
I bit the bullet on the 970. I got the EVGA Superclocked. I kinda wanted to go with the Asus but I'm not a fan of the STRIX that shuts off the fans at idle and only turns them back up when the chip hits 65c, the chip will heat up way too fast each time, it can't be good for it. I wish Asus had just done a nice DirectCu II TOP or a ROG version rather than STRIX. My Current Asus GTX 670 DirectCu II TOP has been the best card I've ever owned.

I signed up for a free 30 trial of Newegg Premier to get free shipping, it'll come in handy to if I decide that I don't like the EVGA (reviews are saing the fans are loud) since you don't get any restocking fee with Premier.
 
According to the Eurogamer review the 970 will cost €270. That's a nice price, think I'll plump for one of those when I put together a new PC.

Are they for sale anywhere yet?

Did Nvidia change leadership recently? Because releasing a good performing card for a good price and also implementing support for adaptive sync is very unlike them.
 
When I added the card to my cart there were 10 remaining, by the time I checked out there were 5 remaining. Hopefully it'll come in short order. I mean short by international postage standards!
 
Would it be better to pick up a second 780Ti or wait for a 980Ti? How far away is the "real" deal, will there be a 980 Ti? Just hear so many issues about SLI.
 
The 970 looks like the second coming of the 8800GT. This is perfect since my 6870 is getting very long in the tooth. I'll be upgrading much sooner than I had anticipated.
 
I have about $130 credit in my Amazon balance. When that 970 drops I'm going to get it for cheap as an upgrade to my GTX 660.
 
So are there any reviews out that compare the 980 in sli to the 290x crossfire? I could only find reviews that just show that 980 in sli.

You're buying a toy to play with. If you can't afford to buy it outright then you have far more important things to spend that money on.

Not only that but you're looking at the card that includes the £100 dick waiving tax. That's not worth going into debt over.

Step away from the PC.
 
Just ordered 2 evga acx 970's from amazon.com will take 2 weeks to reach me here in Dubai.

Hold me GAF. Will be quite the upgrade over sli 3gb 660's.

I will never be more ready for Witcher 3 and PCars.

having previously thought that there wasn't a huge jump over a 7950 OC, those OC 970s do look pretty tempting.

only have a SFF motherboard with a single PCI express though so no SLI - but could do that next year when the rift arrives.

Well it's not quite the 8800GT. That thing was an incredible $200 but it is certainly set to go down as a legendary card.

EVGA have the better warranty and RMA service though. Having been through MSI's twice I wouldn't want to go through it a third time.

Adaptive Sync? Nope. These cards have DP 1.2 connectors. Are you confusing Adaptive Sync with Adaptive Vsync?
 
I know this site isn't a counseling service but to save me the brain ache (I have had some silly thoughts of upgrades):

I am gaming at 1080p @ 60fps max due to the monitor using a GTX 670 2GB. I can play pretty much most current games at 60fps with all settings on v.high or ultra. I know times will change into the coming year but new cards will also be available then.

I SHOULD NOT be considering a 970 should I?

Yea, that shit is ridiculous. What an awesome day for PC gaming.

At first, I was pretty much just gonna get a 970 as a temporary upgrade and then upgrade again with the next line-up, in time for Oculus Rift CV1.

But now, I'm basically thinking that just buying a second 970 is the way to go. I'd need a slightly better power supply, but still, the performance benefit for the cost will probably be unmatched for quite a while with any single GPU. And if Nvidia have some dedicated SLI VR technique to match per-eye rendering with each GPU, then I'd almost say that SLI is *the* best way to go with VR.

Just magical. I've leaned towards Nvidia, but would never have considered myself a 'fan' or anything, but this properly cements me as a supporter. They are doing great things for the future of gaming and graphics processing here.

The 670/80 is the cut-off point for an upgrade, I feel. It's the 770 users and higher who should wait.

With VR SLI and Gsync now a reality, a decent amount of memory as standard and power draw reigned in by such a huge degree, I can finally see the argument for SLI.

SLI 970s will be the defacto setup for a quality experience with CV1.

Shame that I'd so completely sworn off SLI (as it was always previously a horrible product) that I bought a case, PSU and motherboard that don't support it.

If you're looking at VR in the future then a 970 now with a second one when CV1 hits looks like a sound path.
