Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

How much does 970 actually cost in US ? Is it really 329 ?

Because here in Czechland it goes for 420, same as new 290.

Second hand 290 (practically new, with 2 years warranty) can be gotten for 320, which seems to me like much better deal. Of course if I could get 970 for US prices then that would be preferable.

Depends on the state you live in, in general it will be another 4-8% added on top of that.

I have to say the pricing for the gtx 970 is amazing from USA to UK, its pretty much 100% non greed by Nvidia here.

Not just VAT, import Tax too.

You have to pay tax at the retail checkout in US - i.e displayed prices are before VAT/Tax. Not sure about the online shopping.

One question to the SLI pros, is it ok that I installed the cards into slot 1 and 2? EVGA manual says to use the outer slots, but the bridge (and space in the case) didn't really allow that.

How much amperage on 12V you guys think its needed to use a 970 GTX?

Friend of mine has 8 year old 520W OCZ power supply with 28A on 12V which he uses with a GTX 660 and now he wants to upgrade, but he thinks he'll need to buy a new one as both him and me think that 28A won't handle a 970 card.

Online shopping tax is calculated by the shipping address, and only if the retailer has a physical presence in the state you are shipping to.

I never considered how confusing that must be to people in EU where VAT is built into the advertising price (in most places)

28A*12V=336W. More than enough for a 165W card.

The matter of sales tax depends on the state, unlike VAT. It sucks that Europeans are charged VAT on imports regardless of the cost: here in Australia you're only asked to cough up more than the cost price if the value of your package exceeds AUD$1,000. If it's less then you don't pay another cent, which is perfect for importing PC hardware.

350w is enough for a 970

It depends, if you order from newegg or amazon and you state doesn't have one, then you don't pay tax. We all don't have VAT.

The 980 I bought is already out of stock on NewEgg. Saves me the trouble of impulse buying a 2nd one for SLI today. I think I'll wait on that for a while.

I'm also on a 570 right now. Havent been in the market for a card in a couple years so I'm totally out of the loop with what the new hotness is all about.
Right now I have dual screens but I was wanting to add a third, maybe even a fourth line going out to my TV. Can't do it right now with my current card.

I see in the specs that it supports up to 4 screens but has just one DVI-I and one HDMI, the rest are displayport.

I've never used that connector before and I don't think any of my stuff supports it. Is it easy/cheap to get adapters?
 
Anyone think I should jump on one of these right now or do you think I should wait till Windows 9 comes out? Or will that not be for months?

No it's not.

Everything makes sense in theory, but we still want to know how Maxwell achieves better efficiency at this magnitude. Kepler already adjusted the GPU’s voltage quickly and exactly depending on its load and temperature, and AMD’s PowerTune did the same thing as well. When can we expect to see laptops shipping with this? I almost pulled the trigger on a Lenovo with an 860M, but I think it would be worth it to wait. This is the first time I've ever bought a laptop with gaming in mind, so I've never paid attention to the latest and greatest graphics cards.

Forgot to also add that I'd love to just just to the next Intel processor as well (Broadwell?), but that won't be for a while either.

It's also because with this, I want to get a new computer case (NZXT H440), an external BD Burner (to replace my internal since I can't have it in the H440) and maybe a Corsair H90...

Sorry, it's just that I've looked forward to a full upgrade for a while haha.

Regardless, I think I'm going to wait for the ACX 2.0 version of EVGA's 970.

Hmmm here the VAT is around 20%. Shit sucks. I am tempted to replace 280X eventhough I have it barely a year, but I will hold out until Witcher 3 comes and then see what is needed to drive it according to my demands.

Jesus. That 4 way sli scaling is awesome. But it looks like you only see a great benefit a 4k. So 2 seems like the way to go for 1440p for the rest of this generation.

People seemed mad as hell initially in this topic now it's nothing but praise.
 
Hmm, should a 650 watt power supply be enough for the 970? I bought a 570 earlier this year for my first build, and this is really tempting.
 
The price and power of the 980 is pretty awesome. I'm guessing the 980ti is coming next year and will be about $700.

I'd love to upgrade but I doubt the 980ti could pull off Witcher 3 at max.

Once a GPU that can do that with ease comes out, then I'll upgrade!

I think that's a fair timeframe for another GPu.
