I agree that the game was called badly.Tamanon said:Dangit. Good game Steelers, ugly called game, but good game.

Ugh, still another week until the bye week too. God, I hope Meester comes back soon, he'll greatly help the run game.

Woooo! Arizona is the cream of the crap in our division!BlackMage said:I know a shitty conference when I see one because I speak from experience!

not much to say about the game. people will see the box score and blame JTO and he deserves 60% of the blame, but our defense is god awful on the line.
we're 2-3 right now with tough games coming up. if we can get to the midway point of the season at 3-5 i think we'll be in good shape in our division. although we'll get stomped in the playoffs if that were to happen anyways!
whytemyke said:a couple thoughts on the game--
how the hell have the jags not gotten a high-end WR yet? How many years are they gonna let pass by before they decide that it might be nice to have a guy who can hold the ball in key situations?
is there bad blood between mike tomlin and mike tice? I saw the handshake after the game and it seemed VERY cold. they used to work together, didnt' they? you'd think they'd be a LITTLE more chummy.
oh yeah, what's there to say about the lions? I'm actually not so upset that I had to work during the game today. beats the alternative-- havin to watch them :lol
if we don't trade roy williams someone should be shot
The Steelers aren't close to perfect, but this season you won't need to win a Superbowl. Steelers just need to get in and keep half assing their ways to victories in the playoffs.Spectral Glider said:Thank god the game wasn't in the Burgh. And they finally won despite the Mathis pick 6, I'll take it.
4-1 into the bye and not sure what to think. As shitty as the Steelers have played at times, they are practically one good offensive drive in the Eagles game away from 5-0. But they certainly aren't undefeated material. Lick their wounds and hopefully come back and keep it rolling.

I don't like anyone's chances to win this year, but at the same time I think the rules say that 'someone' has to win the Superbowl every year, whether deserving or not. I am hoping that the Steelers get into the playoffs, get some breaks, have some miracles, and crush the Cowboys in the Superbowl.greepoman said:Considering the state of their O-line and all the other injuries I'd say they're pretty damn impressive. As long as they get into the playoffs with Big Ben and Willie Parker healthy, I like their chances.
you should hire millen. he'll get ya a receiver.Tamanon said:Dude, we drafted Wide Receivers in the first round 2 years in a row, then a second rounder(Mike Walker who actually is coming along quite nicely). We bring in wide receivers all the time and they all quickly revert to garbage! It's bizarre, it's like we draft receivers using the Lions playbook but forget to actually hit one of them.

whytemyke said:so was the AFC just riding the coattails of lord thomas of bradyshire?
Spectral Glider said:It's really crazy what's happened to the AFC in a matter of just weeks. Still kind of early though, things may become more normal as time goes on.
Despite their easier schedule, I still think the Giants are playing the most solid all around football. Redskins are starting to match that after a slow start. Cowboys are right there, but the sometimes soft defense and the propensity for bonehead turnovers hurt them and could still be why they won't win in the playoffs. The rest of the NFC is a huge toss up. However, the Bears might be making a move towards the top.

the lions have finally reached the bottom of the barrel, haven't they? it's been a long time coming.j-wood said:This is why I love the NFL more than NCAA Football. Who knows when the axe will swing again?
The short-term problem for Ford is there isn't anybody on the coaching staff who is qualified to take over for Marinelli. That in itself should mean Marinelli will finish out the season.
The larger issue is, regardless of when he's finally dismissed, Marinelli simply will be another good coach who got ground up in the gears of Millen's eight years of incompetence. The Lions can once again change coaches -- and coordinators -- but it's simply a diversionary tactic.
The talent on this team is terrible. It's going to take two years to flush out the dregs and to bring in enough talent to make a difference. A lot of people might tell you otherwise, but they're fools. Just like Marinelli was foolish to believe that bringing in a few of his former Tampa Bay players was going to make a difference with this rancid roster.
After trying to bury himself in everything he holds sacred -- run the ball and play sound defense -- Marinelli realized after three games he didn't have the horses to do it. All he has is a bunch of dogs and ponies.
Offensively, Marinelli changed things up Sunday and went to more spread formations and used a no-huddle offense to try to spark something, anything. His team had been outscored 35-0 in the first quarter this season and he was at his wit's end. What did he have to lose?
Marinelli tried the same magic act on defense. Never a big proponent of blitzing, the Lions tried several new blitzes against the Bears because, again, he needed to try something. His defense had been shredded for three consecutive games. What did he have to lose?
What Marinelli has lost is options. There's simply nowhere to turn anymore. Regardless of how you line them up, of the tweaks you make to personnel or scheme, this is a bad football team. And the way things are going, it's gonna get a lot worse before it gets any better.
The guess here would be 2010.
With the Lions traveling to Minnesota next week, and facing the prospect of Adrian Peterson rushing for 300 yards in another lopsided win, the only drama for the Lions over the next eight days will be the future of receiver Roy Williams.
The trade deadline is Oct. 14, but don't look for Detroit to swing a deal.
There have been reports the Lions have asked for two first-round picks in exchange for Williams and, in talks with Dallas, the Lions wanted linebacker Demarcus Ware in return. Some of that information is true, but not accurate. The Lions and Dallas talked about a deal for Williams last March and the Lions wanted Ware. The Cowboys said no.
The Lions haven't talked to any teams about Williams in the past several months.
How bad is it for the Lions? In the first half Sunday, there were three occasions in which the Bears showed the Lions no respect.
First, the Bears won the coin flip to start the game and deferred to the second half. They didn't fear the Lions offense or the possibility of falling behind after the first possession. The Bears were right.
Midway through the second quarter, leading just 3-0, the Bears had a fourth-and-1 at the Detroit 15-yard line. They passed up the easy field goal and went for it. The Lions stepped up and stopped a Chicago running play for no gain but the Bears clearly weren't thinking that every point was going to be crucial in this game. The Bears were right.
Finally, at the end of the half, the Bears had a first-and-10 at the 18-yard line with 32 seconds left. Instead of taking a knee and securing their 17-0 lead, the Bears spread it out and threw a screen pass. The play didn't go anywhere and the Bears didn't snap the ball again but, clearly, the Bears weren't worried the Lions defense would come up with a big play to make their strategy backfire. The Bears were right.
By the way, please don't offer the suggestion that the Lions' defense did a stellar job in holding the Bears to just three points in Chicago's first four possessions. The only reason the Bears weren't more aggressive on offense is because they didn't have to be. The Bears knew the Lions weren't going to score many points and they didn't want to take unnecessary chances and risk game-changing turnovers.
Again, the Bears were right.
