You and others, are free to dislike it. However the system isn't a 'problem'. MMO's use this exact same system. You run a dungeon hoping for a specific drop and most of the time you don't get it. At the same time, running the dungeon gives you a currency that, when enough are earned, allow you to progress your characters gear.

This isn't a straight loot game. It has the RNG element of it but it's systems are much more aligned with MMORPGs. The sooner everyone realizes this and either accepts it or moves on, the better.

Exactly.

Is something up with the servers today? I went to the tower and there was no one there, then did a strike and after trying matchmaking for a minute it sent me in alone. Tried crucible and let matchmaking run for a few minutes and never found anyone else. This is on XB1.

nova bomb is once every 3 minutes

pistol isn't going anywhere and its going to outright dominate matchups all over the place. i'm talking about things that you can actually play around - not overall balance.

You're comparing the Halo CE pistol to supers when the closest paralell to it in Destiny is the auto-rifle, except there were a lot more weapons in Halo CE whose niche could overwhelm the pistol in the proper situation, and the maps allowed for this. An auto-rifle/pistol won't beat a sniper at long range, but there aren't many maps that support long range combat in Destiny. Also, a needler will beat a pistol at medium range, the plasma rifle doesn't rely on headshots, etc.

Supers are more like adding more rocket launchers to a map.

is anyone else up to the moon mission for the Thorn hand cannon? I could use a couple guys or gals to help, I've leveled past my friends so they can't help me on this.

its the strike with the big guy in chains, level 26 on epic difficulty, gotta kill all the little guys until a named wizard shows up and kill that guy, the giant guy is not relevant but he has to be unchained and alive long enough for Xyor, the Unwed to show up.

i'm on ps4 my psn name is milkham

MMOs have social features that make the grind a great deal more bearable.

Exactly nothing. That type of argument is absolutely atrocious reasoning. Simply because it borrows or adheres to a design choice of another established genre does not make it okay.

I've been playing so much Crucible. I'm level 21 and I JUST got to Venus, I've ignored the story so much haha. Anything I play there is now a cakewalk.

I've really hit my groove in the Crucible though. I'll finish 1st or 2nd regularly in Rumble, and I've been dominating in the team gamemodes. I REALLY like the 3v3 mode, especially if you get good teammates that know to stick together.

Just finished this Control match:

I felt like a god hahaha. So happy my PS4 decided to record that match haha. Of course no loot drops.

If anyone plays a lot of Crucible and can hold their own, add me! Tired of playing with all randoms.

I can outgun an AR with a scout rifle, or a fusion rifle, or a hand cannon, or a shotgun, etc...

You couldn't outgun a pistol with anything but a sniper rifle at mid range or longer. A needler had 0 chance against a good pistol user. That's ridiculous.

MMOs use a similar system but Destiny has a different focus - which is why there is such a disparity and conflict here.

You also completely ignored the point I made. Some people haven't even seen an exotic weapon bounty up until this point. Some people have seen less than a dozen legendary engrams total. It wouldn't be a problem if getting an exotic, an exotic bounty, or legendary drop had no effect on gameplay and content - but it does. Such an impact that it can jettison a player weeks ahead of their peers by simple luck.

And Bungie was either lazy or flat out doesn't care about player performance or competitiveness going off of their loot system. Its only going to make more and more people leave.

49.5 hours in (in a week. I have problems) and I finally score my first legendary engram drop which turned into a legendary fusion rifle.

RNGesus gives on Sundays? Right on man.

Use the cave my friend. I earned four legendaries today grinding. They give out legendaries for earning a level 4 cryptarch level. My math is off because I earned four then got another three from the cryptarch for raising my level.

The whole legendary system is some fuck shit, IMHO. Legendaries keep turning into blue weapons or ascendant shards. Why in the fuck do blues not level to my current level? At least my cryptarch level is five.

If anyone from Bungie is listening please don't patch the cave. Let us impoverished PvE players that refuse to subscribe to online service cook.

There's like... nothing short of rocket launchers that could deal with a pistol.

My point was simple. Supers, of all things, are a lot more avoidable than a truly overpowered weapon.

Friend asked about the cave of wonders, I take him there, there's already four guys pummelling the entrance lol I'll just sit, watch and rake in dem rares I think.

Yes they did. As I said, I played comp on PC and we all landed our 3 shot kills consistently. If you couldn't, you weren't picked for the team.

It was literally the one weapon I needed in pub games to go 100-10 while the public players ran around trying to kill with all the other weapons. Christ, you could shoot down banshees with it, snipe people in warthogs, take out players from half the map away on BG.

Thing was an absolute monster.

It was far too versatile and was used as the primary weapon in 95% of competitive games.

i'd rather be killed by a CE pistol every single time than killed by a nova bomb even once. CE pistol is a skill-based weapon. Even if it's outmatching everything else, the fact that everyone is using it at all times makes it predictable. Nova bomb is a win-card pulled out of someones pocket.

Farming for random loot drops *hoping* for something good is for bitches. That's not what this game is about.

Yours,

Frank

How are you guys getting your vanguard rank up? I've done all the vanguard bounties for the day and made it to rank 1. It seems like it's gonna take forever for me to reach rank 2.

Strike play list on viper difficulty or higher... But considering that it will only give you 20+ points or so per round and the time it takes to to a strike you might as well grind the boring Vangard missions on Earth.

Never had the PC version, so I only played at LAN parties. I suppose the balance of the pistol wasn't super apparent back then. Halo 2 didn't have said balance issue when online.

how to kill arc blade user

1. hear super
2. sacrifice teammate
3. shotgun to face

GrandBrightHairstreak.gif

You actually sacrificed 2 teammates there, looking at the killfeed. The one who died before that seemed to have gotten a shotgun shot off, because your lightning nade didn't hit.

I need more people to play Destiny with for the heroic weekly strikes, etc. Please add me. I'm a level 24 Hunter.

Let players get a cheap kill every now and then, if you're good you'll still come out on top. Those moments where you shut down a super with a well executed move or superior reflexes are worth all the cheap deaths, IMO.

Um, MMOs typically offer more raid entry gear sets than two and more ways to get them so "MMOs use this exact same system" doesn't work too well here.

Also there's no real reason to repeat the dungeons/strikes in this game because that gear caps out at a light level of 24, and you're forced to rely on engrams or marks to get to 26. If they added a new set of strike-only legendaries (or blues that allowed you to hit 26 when fully upgraded) then sure, I'd buy your argument.

in other words, make the skill gap as low as possible.

No, the one at the very start was a throwing knife kill somewhere else

Lol, halo PC. Discussion over.

The lack of social features is another matter entirely.

Exactly nothing. That type of argument is absolutely atrocious reasoning. Simply because it borrows or adheres to a design choice of another established genre does not make it okay.

The fact that the system is acceptable in some of the most popular games in the world means that it is, indeed, okay. The fact that you don't like it personally doesn't mean it's not okay. It just means that it's not what you're interested in.

MMOs use a similar system but Destiny has a different focus - which is why there is such a disparity and conflict here.

You also completely ignored the point I made. Some people haven't even seen an exotic weapon bounty up until this point. Some people have seen less than a dozen legendary engrams total. Destiny doesn't have a different focus at all. It's the exact same focus. Play the content, earn levels and gear to advance your character so that you can take on the most challenging content in the game. Beat that and get rewarded with the best gear and items in the game.

I didn't ignore your point at all. I point out MMORPG's because the exact same thing happens there. People who luck out to get the best drops progress faster than others. However, it's not a race. Outside of the few people who actively try to get world firsts, there's absolutely nothing devaluing the accomplishment of beating the Raid whether your the 10th person/group to do so or the 500,000th.

And the fact that the PvP doesn't focus on competitive ranking in the vast majority of it's modes is another sign that having these items doesn't provide an advantage anymore than the advantages provided in every other shooter that gives rank rewards to the players with higher progression. It's not a classic Arena Shooter. It was never designed to be.

"Its not a race"?

wowwwww.

i think you're either not understanding my gripe at all or you simply refuse to acknowledge the glaring fault here.

lol wow

Looks super cheap and overpowered

I know and I wasn't specifically talking about the shoulder tackle either (there's very little risk in activating the titan slam super as it it now and you can easily get a kill or two when you find yourself in a bad spot and get desperate, bear in mind it's not the only super that is a bit cheap). But yes, the titan shoulder bash feels a bit too good in PvP atm; you can activate it when you run (making it easy to just run around), it's a 1 hit kill attack, you can use it indefinitely (excluding the warm-up time).

All in all, I think supers in general aren't balanced for PvP and I wish the game had a playlist without them.

Nah. It takes 2 or 3 secs to activate and is only activated for a really short time. Plus how buggy sprinting is(not activating half the time) shoulder charge is pretty frustrating to use. I'm thinking of specing out of it because it's maybe useful once a match. Otherwise it deactivates right before I need it, doesn't land, or I get a shotgun blast to the fast before it connects.

I would be completely ecstatic if they make a playlist without supers.

the mere fact the "cave" exists and is being abused (constantly) makes me think whoever I see with whatever gear and whatever light level, they lucked into it by holding down the fire button rather than earning it by repetitively doing strikes at harder levels over and over, or got it by loosing badly at PVP for round after round.

Which come to think about it is almost as mindless.

So the only way to win this game is to elect not to play.

It is candy crush saga for twitch players.

when i die by a pistol, it means i either missed my shot or didn't dodge my opponent's shots.

when i die by a nova bomb, it literally means i happened to run into a warlock who had his super up. they're inherently designed to be unpredictable trump cards that net easy kills.

is gear ever a good way to separate the good from the bad? just look for people with their heads on fire or something
