Um, MMOs typically offer more raid entry gear sets than two and more ways to get them so "MMOs use this exact same system" doesn't work too well here.

Also there's no real reason to repeat the dungeons/strikes in this game because that gear caps out at a light level of 24, and you're forced to rely on engrams or marks to get to 26. If they added a new set of strike-only legendaries (or blues that allowed you to hit 26 when fully upgraded) then sure, I'd buy your argument.

Uhh.. not really no. MMO's offer gear based on a Tier system. To earn the first tier, you need to do the dungeons. Now there are typically various factions that all offer the same Tier of gear, sure. But you generally earn them the exact same way. Grinding rep and currency. Destiny does this exact same thing, offering Vanguard, Crucible, Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, or New Monarchy flavors of the same Tier of Legendary.

Strike Playlists offer rep and marks. Marks are capped per week and rep isn't. MMO's do the same thing (though typically it's capped per day rather than per week). The primary difference between the two that I can see is that MMO's offer your random drops upon defeat of bosses while Destiny offers your random drops upon the defeat of any enemy of any level. In an MMO.. getting a Legendary (or equivalent) drop off of low level mob is a seriously infinitesimal chance. Not true of Destiny. However Destiny balances this by primarily dropping Engrams which have another dice roll built in.

You really shouldn't even be farming until you have neaLly all fully upgraded level 20 blues imo, which I think puts you around level 23 or 24.

I only have a Hunter yet I am a leg piece away from being able to gear up a full legendary and exotic Titan :L

Do what i do when bastion and first light pop up and instantly leave. Until bungie let's me block maps I don't care if I hurt a team.

It's not too bad if there was a real map rotation in order, but it's more RNG and you can get the same map back to back way too often, it sucks.

There's a bounty to complete a strike with the Heroic modifier on. How do you do that?

Setting the mission to a harder difficulty. It's kinda confusing but if you change it, there are little icons (mission modifiers) that show up. Hover over them and they say what they are.

I think the concept of RNG alone isn't terrible, (Though the fact that there's little to no reason to do well in a PvP match unless your team wins seems like a bad design choice) but the argument of "MMOs do it!" doesn't apply here, in my opinion.

You see, in an MMO, the harder the content is the better the rewards you will receive. There's RNG loot drops and tokens in heroic WoW dungeons, but you get those for completing the heroic dungeon.

In Destiny, you can get heroic strike quality gear from farming level 6 mobs on the first planet in the game, to the point in which endlessly killing level 6 enemies progresses my character more than doing endgame strikes. That's a loot balancing issue.

Hogger can't drop epics.

Any hard difficulty should have the Heroic modifier on. When you hover over the icons that accompany a difficulty level after selecting it, you should see "Heroic" be one of the first ones.

when i die by a pistol, it means i either missed my shot or didn't dodge my opponent's shots.

when i die by a nova bomb, it literally means i happened to run into a warlock who had his super up. supers are inherently designed to be unpredictable trump cards that net easy kills.

but warlocks aren't running around with two full clips of nova bomb ammo

The fact that the system is acceptable in some of the most popular games in the world means that it is, indeed, okay. The fact that you don't like it personally doesn't mean it's not okay. It just means that it's not what you're interested in.
I say your logic is terrible and your response is an appeal to how popular something is? It doesn't then make it good, if you prefer that wording. What I'm interested in is the fact that my $60 was every bit as good as yours and I can't imagine all the totally valid criticism being relegated into the "not your type of interest" camp. I don't think Bungie was trying to appeal ever-dwindling MMO crowd -- not that they recognize good gameplay.

Just checked this out and I think that Bungie might've either nerfed it or my luck is just that bad. I looted the chests on mars for like an hour and got nothing but greens. Good place to get iron relic though.

What is the intended way of getting materials like the filaments in order to upgrade the guns? I certainly don't come across them in normal play, so finding a system to search moon chests seems like the natural way to get them.

The chest runs are only really good for getting materials, I don't think anyone does them for items.

Usually when I run into a warlock I get meele to death :(

Picked this up today and I'd really like to start playing but I need to come up with a gamertag for PSN first. Everything I usually use is taken :(

Yeah. Well I guess the guy who made the Mars chest video got lucky because he got some blues and a couple purples in a chest near the end. But this video was a week ago. Bungie might've already seen it and done something or he was really just that lucky with RNG.

Always have the person with the highest Discipline pick up the Relic.

The two Guardians with designated Relic holder should wield Fusion Rifles, preferrebly with Void damage.

Use Fusion Rifles on Oracles (usually dies in one hit. May take 2 depending on item rarity)

Throw grenades down below to help Relic holder deal with Vex

Once gate is open, head straight to middle platform after crossing gate

Titan Defenders, don't use shield. Let Relic Holders throw down the relic shield as you can shoot through that one.

Bought an exotic chest engram from Tentacle Face the other day and got something for Titan (I'm a Hunter). Just found a legendary chest engram and decoded it into the exact same exotic Titan chest. Wonderful.

heroic is one of the modifiers (AKA halo skulls). just pick a strike and up the difficulty. hover the cursor over the skull icons and make sure heroic is active.

My point is other MMOs give you "good gear" from running repeatable PVE content while Destiny really doesn't for running Strikes, as outside of RNG engrams the loot pool is just level 20 blues. If Nightfall was repeatable and completable at level 24, then I wouldn't have as much of an issue with the current gear progression since you now have a consistent route of gear acquisition that isn't tied to a weekly currency or engram RNG and more importantly, is actually doable in the previous tier of gear.

Basically I take issue with this level gap in content from 24 to 26/28 where players have to rely on weekly marks or engrams, neither of which really require a full set of upgraded blues to do. So, what's the point of the highest tier of non-nightfall strike playlist if the gear you get isn't even useful for tackling the next tier of content (nightfall and raid).

Man level 22 summoning pit weekly is a bitch. I was at 22 and my two friends were 26s and we still didn't get through it. Really didn't fare much better than when we tried a few levels lower the other day.

At least bought my first legendary earlier, a vanguard chest piece. Will hit 23 with first upgrade. Still haven't seen a legendary drop, though my friend got a couple during our session.

is gear ever a good way to separate the good from the bad? just look for people with their heads on fire or something

No it isn't.

But why are 99% of all Destiny posts about getting legendary or exotic gear (more easily, faster).

It seems to define the community the way breaking through, by chance, a difficult level defines the candy crush player.

It is also the only way you are allowed to experience any new content after you've done the story. (you can't play the raid until you grind out some legendaries).

Only leg gear left

And off to farm helium filaments (need about 150 lol )

You cannot pick a strike and up the difficulty.

You have to pick ANYthing from the Strike Playlist (LV18 will do) or Weekly Strike.

"Its not a race"?

wowwwww.

i think you're either not understanding my gripe at all or you simply refuse to acknowledge the glaring fault here.

Maybe I'm not understanding your gripe. Here are my best guesses.

Either:

Your gripe is about some players advancing faster than others, thus having more useful gear in PvP modes. To which I replied this isn't any different than any other shooter that awards progression.

Or

Your gripe is that some players advance faster than others, allowing them the ability to play the gated content (Raids and Nightfall) while those who progress slower.. can't yet. To which I replied that some players gaining access to the content later doesn't devalue the content. The pace of acquisition is designed to have a base rate of advancement in it's construction that's determined by the cap. If you don't play enough to reach that cap, then your rate of acquisition is slower by your own determination.

If neither of those are the root of your issue, then by all means, clarify. Because those are the only two interpretations that I can get out of what you've said.

Then what's the problem? You could level up your Titan pretty fast and then just equip him with stuff. Personally I wouldn't make an alt just because you have gear for them though, if that's what you're thinking.

I got 2 Warlock legendaries and Sunbreakers over the weekend but I'm a Titan, I contemplated saving them for an alt for like 5 minutes before dismantling all of it. No regrets, I got 7 shards out of it.

Did you see the vid I posted? Boss is the easiest part. Just redid the Nightfall Strike for example.

Actually you're very lucky, now you have upgrade materials when you get rid of the duplicate you don't want.

Just rename "Crucible" to "Shotgun" and be done with it.

Today has been especially terrible. I've actually just given up halfway through rounds of Control because I'll be leading a team that has no chance to win at all. It's very frustrating playing today.
