There's a guy using nothing but blink and a broken auto rifle and tearing everyone a new one because he can blink around so fast, give that shit a cooldown bungie.

Excluding reps and marks, like say you've already capped for the week, do you still think it's worthwhile to keep running level 24 Strikes for gear?

Yes. Even if you're not earning Legendaries, you're earning gear drops that you break down for the materials needed to upgrade the Legendaries you'll eventually earn through rep and marks. And upgrading those will raise your level even further.

That's absolutely horrendous. I know that the fusion rifle is a shotgun counterpart but again... that's two weapons that actually seem to be of any use in the Crucible. It's such a damn, shitty mess and I'm realizing this the longer I play.
The gun type responsible for the most of my deaths in the crucible by an absolutely huge margin is the auto rifle. Have you used a Shingen-E?
Untrue, it unlocked for me at 25.

I dont think its worth trying right now for me, but just figured I'd clarify
Oh- When you say "unlocked" were you actually able to visit it? I thought I tried.

And now that I think of it I think having a 23 or lower in your party actually prevents you from going. So I wasn't quite accurate there.
What is this weapon? It's awesome. CLEARLY, it's the only PVP-viable handgun in the entire game.

So after having the game pre-loaded since launch I finally was able to get a couple hours in between last night and this morning. All I can say is wow. Though I can totally understand the source of many gripes, I am having a blast!

I've spent nearly all of my time with the game in Old Russia, with a little of The Crucible here and there and though I haven't even touched the Moon yet (am I doing it wrong?) my level 10 Warlock is coming out pretty cool.

My question for you, GAF:

What's the ideal way(s) to meet up with people for strikes, story missions, patrol missions, etc. etc.? My experience with the game thus far has been mostly solo, and though I've had fun I'd really like to team up with a good group for some co-op carnage.

I know I remember reading about websites that have popped up to facilitate matchmaking and I've also seen the clan thread here but the community has developed so much in the one week I waited to start that I'm almost overwhelmed by all the resources out there. So I'm just wondering what's worked best for you guys so far.

Also, feel free to add me on XBL, I'm in dire needs of friends who play! GT: JDizzv

I'm on Xbox One. I don't really have a regular play time due to college, but when I am on I'm always down to team up.

Great gameplay!

The loot system has already been kind to him with the hand cannon, so that should lessen the blow of seeing this after a perfect game:

i probably wouldn't care either if i lucked out and found that hand cannon, but after that game they could at least throw him some relic iron or shards to help him upgrade it or something.

Loot tables for the very first run difficulty of dungeons don't make you raid ready. They make it easier to run the dungeons that gain you the rep and currency. In some, the first run difficulty of dungeons loot tables only server to make you ready to take on the second run difficulty of dungeons which loot tables still don't make you raid ready. Or at the very least, make you less viable in a raid than the gear earned through the Rep and Currency.

The only loot table drops in an MMO that really make powerful enough for the next top tier of content are those that drop from bosses in actual raids. Normal mode readies you for Hardmode which readies you for either the next higher difficulty (if there is one) or for the first tier of the next planned raid.

No, they dont. I dont think I have ever gotten gear from a strike that I didnt already have.

If they want to make this a loot game, bosses need to drop loot. I cant fathom how you can defend this, its baffling.

In MMO's you run stuff for drops, and the currency is the background goal to start with. You cant do that in Destiny, Strikes are ridiculously slow way to get marks and rep, and the drops are shit.

I can do a public event and a bounty in 5 minutes, and get more than I would have in a strike that may last an hour or more. How is that good?

I dont need gear to do public events or bounties, I need gear to do 24 strikes. And those 24 strikes reward the same or less, in far more time.

The loot system is broken in this game. Not analogous to an mmo at all at this point

In only a couple of hours farming, I've had 8 legendary engrams drop. Most were garbage but three turned into exotic weapons/helmets. In that time I wouldn't have even been able to afford a single legendary. Farming is worth it.

But you werent playing the game and you also got incredibly lucky. If you just play the game and have fun things come naturally anyways. Besides gear doesnt mean anything without shards. You only get shards by playing the game mostly.

So, I maxed out on the crucible marks and vanguard marks, and I spent all of my rep points getting to rank 3 with the future war cult. I also had crucible marks left over from last week.

By the time Thursday rolled around I had bought the legendary helmet and gauntlets from the future war cult, and I had the legendary rifle from rank 3.
Okay- those two legendary pieces with a few upgrades, plus two level 20 blues maxed out- that's enough for level 26. I'm so, so sorry you didn't realize this and spend your time getting there instead of farming. Not being sarcastic at all... that seriously blows.

I don't even have a legendary weapon yet and I'm 26, so you're actually better off than me for the raid... >_<

:-/ sorry man.
I'm a titan, so the exotic for this week was a legendary helmet.
That makes no sense at all.. please clarify. literally not a clue what you meant :(
Had I put 3 points into the gauntlets and got the exotic upgraded the first stage I could have gone to the raid, but I needed more strange coins. I had done the weekly strike and everything, so I was cave farming for the strange coins.
That's a terrible way to try to farm strange coins :( Chests, PvP and especially public events all have much higher drop chances for Strange Coins.
I just barely missed that exotic. :'(
:'(

I wish remote play didn't suck balls if your ps4 is connected via wifi. I don't have an ethernet port to my living room and trying to remote play wifi to wifi is a mess

Got my first shot at an exotic bounty today. Choice was between the hand cannon, pulse rifle or shotgun. Thought I picked the one for the shotgun, picked the wrong one and realized it was for the pulse and I don't like or use any of the 3....may just abandon it lol.

On another note, the strike playlist is pretty darn fun. Would love to chain a few of those with a gaf group.

You might have to repost your guides. You can BUY your legendary gear. There's no need to grind.

Yeah. With how infrequently legendary engrams drop and how low your chance is to make them into actual legendary gear is, I think it's better to just do bounties + crucible and stuff. As much time as I spent grinding and looting, I could've been rank 2 in FWC. I'm almost there now.

I would try the pulse rifle just because it can by used as a full auto, so makes it a bit better. The shotgun has a slow reload.

In the same situation. Its lol
Hmm, confused, what actually is the problem here? did you have mean to take off the faction item to earn other rep or so?
So how do you get the raid armor?
by doing the raid, you have a shot at it once a week from a variety of chests and bosses inside (so far as I understand, loot from bosses goes directly into you inventory in the raid)

I'll concede to that point though I find doing mob farming is far more efficient for upgrade mats.

I must have The Last Word. I thought I was done hoping for exotic drops and shit.

But I needs it, man.

I needs it bad.

I didn't say that running strikes directly awards loot that progresses you. I said there's a chance along the way to earn it, referring to the RNG of drops.

You're plainly incorrect about running dungeons for the drops in MMO's. You run the dungeons for the rep and the currency as the gear bought from that is what you need to run the raids. You run the raids for the drops. It's a big distinction.

I'm also not understanding how it could possibly be taking an hour or more to run a level appropriate strike. Even The Devil's Lair only took about 45 minutes in the Beta when run at level 6.. and they changed the level requirement to 8 for launch, so they clearly realized 6 was too low a level for it. The only time a strike has taken over an hour for me is when I ran a strike that was 2 levels or higher than my current level at the time. But hey, if you've found faster ways to accrue rep and marks than running Strikes, then great! That's a better alternative in terms of time invested. Though it doesn't provide the same gameplay experience, which is good if you don't like Strikes and neutral or bad if you do like strikes.

Level 24 strikes with a good team (knowing the strike) can be easily under 30 minutes, under 20 for some of them.

Looking for 2 more to raid on PS4 tonight at 8 Pacific time! Don't need any experience, we'll learn while we do it.

I'm interested. Level 27 warlock, almost maxed out the sunsinger class. How long are you guys planning on playing. I'd say I have 5 hours at most.

I'll concede to that point though I find doing mob farming is far more efficient for upgrade mats.

I've found that running strikes and mob farming runs about even for me personally in terms of drops gained. I've had drop droughts in doing both and I've had great drop runs in both.

Edit: But I will say that when it comes to secondary upgrade items (Relic Iron, Helium, etc..) that farming routes would take the edge over time. That doesn't make strikes worthless imo though. There's still value in running them.

No, I'm level 3 with FWC as well and have maxed out vanguard and crucible marks. There's nothing to do but sit on hands for a few more days.

The problem is that there are more ways to "luck" into progress than there are to actually do it the consistent way. All of those ways would take 1-2 weeks off of what would be the typical progress route.

UGH! Not long after completing the weekly strike mission, I move forward with an exotic bounty requiring me to complete a weekly strike.

sigh..........

On that note....anyone wanna do the weekly strike?????

I'm on XBONE The Yanix

No, I'm not.

You hit max level in WoW, your first stop is dungeons. Bosses drop the gear you need to get into raids, while earning currency for better gear a long the way.

Destiny DOES NOT have this step. Destiny's strikes, which are supposed to be analogous to Dungeons, falls flat on its face.

Strikes are a horrible time investment in this game. Bounties are quicker rep, and public events are quicker marks.

EDIT: As for the strikes being an hour thing, Most strikes I get at my level are mars, and the randoms I get take forever. I am attempting to do my 25 strikes for my exotic bounty, and will end up doing the moon one, but its not crazy to say they take an hour, even when you say the earth one takes 45 mins.

But by all means, keep defending a shitty loot system, for whatever reason

Man Gunslinger is so OP right guys? Lol.

Awesome display there. That HC is bad fucking ass

was expecting that blinking warlock to spit out a nova bomb, but he noped the guy below him and waited for him to land, lol.

rusted lands is a solid rumble map if you're quick and keep your back to a wall.

I must have The Last Word. I thought I was done hoping for exotic drops and shit.

that one weapon made me want to boot up the game, but i wouldn't know where to begin to find it anyway

absolutely this

I can't believe I've been playing this game an insane number of hours since it was released and just now realized that you can get extra ascendant materials by upping the difficulty on the daily heroic mission. I've been doing them on the default difficulty most days and wondering why my reward was a big fat nothing.

I'm a Voidwalker Warlock with a 42 magazine Auto-Rifle and I gotta say it's pretty broken.
I love it.
