Silly question time, do Vanguard marks essentially become worthless when you have a Faction item equipped, since you can't level up the Vanguard without taking it off?

Yeah kinda. I opted to just work on standard Crucible and Vanguard rank first since that meant I could spend both types of marks and get more gear in a given week lol. I'll worry with factions soon, since I'm already rank 3 vanguard and almost rank 3 crucible.

Oh, also I hate wearing faction capes so that also factors into it =p

Edit: I like Dead Orbit colors though... But don't really want Strength/Discipline armor.

Are there any legendary auto rifles that outperform the Shingen-E? And if so which? I've heard good things about the suros regime exotic, but nothing about legendaries.

From what little I've tried of Hard Light, it is a monster, even with zero upgrades.

Y'know. We have people that think you should be able to trade. And I honestly wouldn't be against it with the way the game actually turned out. Their original reasoning was that you were supposed to earn your gear. It was supposed to be like a trophy. You could show it off. And people might see that cool thing you have and aspire to get it themselves. I liked this idea.

What we actually got was this:

"Whoa, is that [insert awesome legendary/exotic weapon here]?! Where'd you get that?!"
"Oh, you know, I got a 0.3 K/D in the Crucible and it gave it to me."
"Oh... huh..."

I liked the idea of there being high end exotics that may be unique to certain strike/raid bosses. RNG is fine, but not entirely random drops for no apparent reason. I'm fine with killing the same boss repeatedly trying to get something cool. I would like to say "Yeah I got this by beating a level 24 version of the Archon Priest a few times and prying it from his cold, dead hands". Instead I get to say "Yeah, I bought like, almost all my gear including my exotics except this one that I got because of an RNG bounty". Loot games are fun but Destiny, though sold as one, isn't really one lol. It's a game with time-gated progression(Marks) and a small chance at bypassing that with pure luck rather than skill or effort.

Now, despite that, I still enjoy the game. But yeah. Not sure why I suddenly felt like posting this, but yeah. The whole "earning your gear" thing has been on my mind for a while lol.

For the raid-specific gear, there's no other way to earn it. It's like in WoW. Sure, there are epics you could find off a trash mob, but the best items were from a raid and most people knew that. I suspect that, as time goes on, we'll get better raid/pvp-only loot.

And I'm really, really against trading. I thought I wanted it but whenever I think about Diablo 3 PC (no trading) and Diablo 3 console (trading), I think no trading makes for a better game. It forces people to use what they have and adapt and it makes finding certain gear that much more rewarding.

Stuck at level 27 because I can't for the life of me find a legendary helmet. Need to grind that vanguard.

Also any tips for the last stage of the night fall? We breezed through everything else (all level 27) but could barely make a dent on the final boss.

Purg3, Toku, Ben:

Don't think I'm going to be able to raid again until Thursday, but please try to replace me and make some progress without me.

Vanquisher VII. Doctor Nope MAYBE after the stability upgrade, but I'm not there. It kicks too much before the upgrade.

Vanquisher VII looks good when upgraded, though.

Hard Light is an exotic. Still, I want it.

Yes, just shoot him from the doorway you walk out of. You can cheese him down.

They need to introduce a new weapon rarity. Like orange or pink or teal that you absolutely CANNOT buy or get bounties for under any circumstances.

Their presence will be whispered about and those who wield them will be legends.

This concept of earning or buying one of the rarest weapons in the game is dumb.

Good thought. Hyper-rares only given out to people who complete specific, difficult tasks that pop up spontaneously. So, you'd have to be at the right place, at the right time, and make it through a brutal fight.

If you're already geared, but accruing Marks and don't want to experiment, just buy legendaries and dismantle them for whatever high level materials you want.

Thanks. Hadn't thought of that. Any idea how many shards you'd get from dismantling some boots? :-)

Look harder. Seriously. You can gather 50-75+ materials in 15-20 minutes, easily, on any planet.

If you're hunting Relic Iron by scouring the planet looking for nodes, youredoingitwrong.gif

Every single planet has areas that are loaded to the brim with chest spawns, most have resource nodes nearby, but those are a bonus, the chests are what you want. They all contain materials, and you get free glimmer and engrams or other loot now and then.

There are chests everywhere, I mean everywhere. You haven't found them all, I promise you.

There's guides floating around online, but you don't really need to constantly farm one spot and loop it if you don't want to (I generally don't bother), you can bop between different areas tackling patrols while looping all the spawns in the vicinity.

Quick tips for speed farming materials:

Respec to full Agility. Bring a weapon with the Lightweight (+2 Agility) mod. Be sure to check all of your talents, some have a bonus point of agility on them, not just the stat talents.

Don't get off your Sparrow. Drive into caves and buildings, get off, loot, get back on your sparrow rather than resummoning a new one.

Use your jumps to scout for chests. That green glow is distinctive and easy to spot from the air, when you're scouting a new area, get some height and scan the area.

Look behind, under, around, within everything in every area. There are so many chest spawns (I've found areas that have chests that literally spawn two feet away from each other), some of them cleverly tucked away behind objects so they can't be spotted from the air or from common routes.

Go to the edges of areas, look at them from above, look behind debris and cover, and look for every cave and small building entrance. Every single planet has tons of these, some zones have more than others, but those little caves and buildings are all guaranteed chest spawns. They're just the beginning of what you can find, but they give you a good guaranteed basic loop to scout while you're discovering all the other chests tucked away everywhere.

Best way to do this is with two friends so you can split farm patrols, but that's just a bonus, soloing for materials is fast and easy.

I find that sound is really good when hunting for chests/nodes. The noise that each make has helped me find, or not pass by, so many things and learn where they are.

Looking to set a time for tomorrow evening to hit up the Nightfall Strike once it refreshes.

PS4 - 9pm EST

Cosmos_Man

Send a FR only if you can make that time tomorrow to do it. I want to do it the first day to get the most out of the XP bonus for the rest of the week.

In other news, I received a The Last Word exotic hand cannon after the weekly strike. Can't believe how much fun this gun is to use. I feel like a gunslinger just blasting everyone. It will be a sad day when I eventually replace this.

It seems like half of the maps in PvP for Control require a team hold a particular spawn side in order to have 2x the level advantage, or maybe it's just the last few I played.

I don't feel even the slightest bit of a rewarding feeling for getting my gear in Destiny, though. Like I said, I've bought my exotics, except Thorn. And Thorn was more of a "Fucking finally" after that strike than a "YAY I GOT THORN", and it is a bit disappointing for an exotic too lol. Also bought my legendary armor.

Also I got not a single piece of raid gear from my run x.x just a shotgun and mats. And I don't think there's any raid exotic weapons. Just the gear that basically has the sole purpose of making the raid more doable lol. I love my Chatterwhite shader, and I enjoy the raid, but with it being timelocked on top of being completely RNG it doesn't really help things.

Strikes, outside of the Nightfall(once a week) and to a much lesser extent Heroic are completely pointless since you don't have a chance of getting something nice at the end. I'm talking about once you're in the legendary tier, of course, they're fine when you're after blues. They're okay for marks, but again that's a timegated currency so it doesn't do much for a "loot game".

Give strikes possible valuable rewards. Remember when we thought Hawkmoon and Monte Carlo would come from Dust Palace? Yeah that was an interesting thought. Except it didn't work out that way lol. And give higher ranking players a higher weight for good loot in the Crucible. Let low ranks have the same chance they already do, but at least give people a reason to want to perform better.

The way loot works in Destiny is really unsatisfying to me. And I'm also fine with no trading, as I opened with. But I was hoping they would justify that by making the cool stuff something you really earn and can show off. Not be giving it away to random, often poor performing people in the crucible lol. People with super low K/D ratios are running around with far better weapons than raid clearers, that's a bit weird =p

Vanquisher VII looks good when upgraded, though.

I'm not sure if this is fully understood, but the Legendary weapons in the tower have fixed mods - you can find the exact same weapon in the wild with different mods.

Mods can absolutely define a weapon, the right combination can do amazing things for different guns.

The name sets the baseline stats, but the mods affect everything else about its behavior.

(It's also one of the reasons that even though everyone is/can be in full exotic/legendary in a bit over a week, the hunt for 'perfect' loot will go on for a looooooooooong time - to get a full set of all primary weapon types and elements for special/heavy with the mods you want on the guns you want is going to take weeks, probably months)

Remember when bungie told us they wanted everyone to have a story for their armor? So far I only have two stories. I got this chest piece from defeating first boss of raid and I got this exotic helmet from defeating a nightfall strike. The problem is that I don't even plan on ever wearing the exotic helmet lol. I'm trying to get the heart of the praxtic Fire. I assume I will just be buying that off xur at some point. Unless I'm blessed by RNGesus.

Vanquisher VII looks good when upgraded, though.

Saw this the other day, decided I needed to level my new monarchy rep, just for this weapon. The only real downside I see is the clip size, but with solid aim which will help with the stability upgrade, that will help nullify that disadvantage some.

My life since Destiny launched:

I need to mow the grass - just a couple more crucible matches (2 more hours pass and now too dark)
I Need groceries - I'll go tomorrow and just eat something really fast over the sink.
I need to do laundry - speed run to the basement during loading screens
I need to go to the bathroom - speed run during loading screens
I need to go to work - read GAF and Destiny stuff all day

etc.

Kidding, sort of.

Relying on chests to get the upgrading materials is 100% accurate. I would have said "bullshit" before yesterday, but I went to the moon to get mats as well as pound out my moon patrol bounty, and it was unreal how many materials I found simply from opening chests. Some chests can contain 10 materials alone.

You know what the real problem with the treasure cave is? People just gear out through shooting at the cave (and, in some cases, level up by shooting at the cave), and then they get into harder strikes/raids and just suck. I've never seen so many people who are level 27 and 28 just play so terrible or not know how basic mechanics work.

This...I was trying to lvl up my second character yesterday. We were at The Devil's Layer Strike(the first for my second character) and I was lvl 10 and my team mates were 11 and 12 respectively. They wouldn't come to the start of the mission. They kept messing around in the playground before. All I could think was....really?!

No you're not.

Ooh ooh, me next.

I farmed rep and marks and bought it.

The end.

I guess I could include the step where I identified 2948293428 blue engrams and a few dozen purple and looted one usable legendary weapon, three for other classes, and two exotics for other classes, but everyone has done that step.

Wait everyone has done the first step too.

Ok uh...

I got a legendary from the Nightfall while my two teammates got Exotics.

That's a good one too.

I did, however, get a Scout Rifle with Solar damage from Atheon, so that at least, is a story I'm happy about ;)

I'm at 0.64 actually lol.

I'm at .8. I know I suck at Crucible but, I enjoy it. It's fun sometimes to have better than stock AI. I'd hate to think someone thinks I'm playing it just to farm just because I have a sub 1 KDR. I try to help in other ways anyways, such as capping points, etc. when I can.

On Mars I got 10 relic iron, a ship, and a legendary engram from a chest.

i was confused.

FORGIVE ME RNGesus.

I knew I shouldn't have cursed your name earlier, why oh why did you feel the need to break my only DS4?

You could have smited me a different way... now, I am controller-less till at least tomorrow afternoon (that's if the retailer I got my PS4 from will swap it..), not keen on buying another controller already, just got that one (and they are $90-99 here in NZ : bargain!! :P).

At least I got a Shingen-E L20 from Crypty just before it broke.. some good news at least :(

I have fun with it in spurts honestly. I just try to hang with teammates & steer clear of FFAs because I know Im dead in any 1 on 1 fight.

Too true. I found a legendary engram, 12 heliums and 200 glimmer in a moon chest yesterday. They're all over the place in that initial section you get dropped off at.

I don't know about any legendaries but I can confirm Suros Regime is great. Got it from a random drop in the crucible and the mod that lets it shoot slower when zoomed but do more damage is great. Basically a scout rifle auto fired with recoil that lets me keep the auto fire on someones head with a 1.5x damage increase.

PvP is such fucking shit

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because I don't know how anyone can like this. People just running around with shotguns on shitty clusterfuck maps. Oh, you managed to shoot at him first? Too bad he's just teleported behind you because he chose a different class and now you're dead.

Or he's got a golden gun and can one shot you for no reason. Or take a million bullets and lunge at you and kill everyone because fuck it. Why not huh?

I wouldn't even be angry if I could ignore this entire aspect of the game.
