It's contentious because I see a lot of people complaining about the loot in this game, but it's always about how much drops suck.

There's this backlash against Destiny's end-game being broken because the loot is broken or the content is boring. The end-game is definitely broken, but only because it doesn't explain well enough how to play. Instead you get people playing it like a different game and being frustrated it's not behaving how they expect/want.

I had 13 strange coins from playing the game normally, so I bought an exotic helm. I manged to get ~70 vanguard marks per week so far, so I bought 2 legendary armor pieces. I had a blue drop turn into legendary boots. So my armor is exclusively purple & yellow. Since i'm not farming the treasure cave I'm getting the planetary mats I need to level up my legendary gear.

And because I'm not farming the treasure cave, I'm doing bounties. The bounties gave me an exotic pulse rifle and got my Vanguard rank up to 3, so I got a free legendary auto-rifle. No RNG, no decrypt. Just here ya go, guardian.

The systems really work together and encourage a variety of play and I always know what I need to do to get my next piece of armor.

This is a fair point. But reducing the whole of Destiny to a slot machine of treasure cave shooting seems like it's doing the game a tremendous disservice.

Don't blame the players, blame the game. The whole game should not have the exact same RNG on every enemy. The drop rate should scale to the enemy level, period. If they did that, they wouldn't have to nerf the Cryptarch.

I have a legendary: assault rifle, scout rifle, pusle rifle, fusion rifle, sniper, rocket launcher, heavy machine gun (2x). Idk why this game loves giving me legendary weapons. Are they easier to get than legendary armor pieces? I got a legendary chest and gauntlets but it's for my warlock class. I did get my first hunter legendary guantlets yesterday, though, so I'm finally level 25.

My brother doesn't have nearly as many legendary but he got exotic helmet that he can wear and an exotic assault rifle with high fire rate and stability. I'm jealous :(

But even WoW figured out that giving loot for the wrong class pisses people off. Nothing like going to turn in a purple engram I earned from PVP to see it be warlock gloves or a Titan chest when I'm a hunter. Let me pick my reward!

All that does is discourages me from playing the game it was meant to be played.

I pictured the game having far more content in the case of it being a subscription based MMO. Basically WoW with guns.

We can guess at what could have been but when the structural stuff is so all over the place it makes it difficult to speculate. All I know is most of the MMOs I've played don't register the level of boredom/frustration that I reach when doing Destiny's endgame chores. I don't think much would change on a subscription plan IMO.

Am I the only one that kinda likes hanging out at the loot cave? It feels like one of the most social places in the game. Not to mention that it's not only shooting into a cave. You get the public events that spawn there and the random war cluster fuck which can be a lot of fun and absolutely CRAZY with a lot of high level people there. I'm not hanging out there extensively, but I'll probably spend 15-30 minutes there to cool off between challenging strikes/missions and just to hang out.

I do the same. It's just on my list of things to do among lots of other stuff.

I'd be curious about this too. The self rez IS nice, but none of my party members mentioned any appreciable difference with the cooldown reduction option. I assumed Sunsinger would be the go to for raids, which is why I leveled it. But now that I've filled it out I see no incentive in group play to be anything other than Voidwalker. On the one hand I guess I'm glad if it comes down to preference, on the other, I'm struggling to see what areas it excels in.

IMO the best thing about Voidwalker is the speed. You get surge and blink. You also get Nova Bomb, which is unfortunately one giant rocket.

Sunsinger is more defensive, but makes you a killing machine depending on how good you are with grenades.

This is the worst part of the loot. At least give me something usable.

Ascendant Shards are the *actual* gate on levelling up, and every purple you get gives you ascendant shards. At this point I'm fully decked out in purples except for my head, and I need about 20 ascendant shards. I'll happily take legendaries for other classes all day long.

Does anyone actually get upgrade/ascended materials from Public Events outside the one daily mail? I always do the events looking for shards but I've gotten bonus materials maybe twice out of 50+ events.

I have my exotic + raid legendary gear so I just need ~65 shards to go from lv28 to 30...

I'm glad loot isn't like Borerlands/diablo, in those games even high level loot is completely common and I'm never excited when it drops, the loot is entirely disposable.

I did last week, hasn't happened this week. Either they nerfed it or its just rare as hell.

Nah, for Bad Juju.

I only just got the bounty on late Saturday night/Sunday. Xur wasn't even around when I got the damn bounty. I'm just pissed that I've got to sit around with this thing in my inventory a whole week. I've got less space for bounties now.

I'd rather that at this point then taking apart 10 fusion rifles. Every blue secondary I get is a green fusion rifle. It's like the Cryptarch is mocking me.

I've had the bounty for 4 or 5 days and I've only taken apart 2. Yuck. Hoping the gunsmith sells them at some point. I've been checking the app alot to try and catch him. He's sold every rare but fusion in the past two days. Unless I missed it on a 4-7am rotation when I was asleep.

I'm currently still with rare's just because I'm waiting for the vanguard faction to rank up, I run the cave to do bounties and get materials and either way those things are going to be incredibly boring I may as well just stay in one spot and do them as quickly as possible.

Random drops are fine up to a point but chances are you'll be hoping for some incredible luck to perfectly complement your weapons and armour to gain the bonuses they offer, I have enough marks buy my missing legendary items from New Monarchy but they don't offer what I'm after like boots that allow me to carry more auto rifle ammo. The issue comes from ranking up each faction to obtain the perfect balance, obviously it's meant to take time to do but it's so incredibly dull and slow to achieve that people are just hoping for lucky drops instead.

But the way it is, the vendors suck balls when it comes to getting the perfect set. What if I want all white armor favoring +intellect and Auto rifle perks (more ammo, faster reload) and I don't want the big Vanguard "V" and the "shoot to loot weapon perk", not "luck in the chamber". I can't do that with the vendors, I have to wait for the RNG to drop all of that, probably six months from now.

Bad juju is so bad... I just wanted a good primary.
Oh RNGesus why are you doing this to me?

Is this your opinion after fully upgrading it?

I just got the bounty today, contemplating whether to do it or not.

Did you unlock the exotic mod yet?

The gun is ass at first... it HAS to be because later on it instantly reloads.

I'm enjoying it so far. Really can't wait to get it fully upgraded.

Is it sad that I grab my vita, remote play the loot cave and just leave it while i go play something else? yes thats what this game has turned into for me.

Most of the MMOs you play have probably been out for longer than 2 weeks, right?

Most MMOs have better main story quests on release than Destiny. I just wanted to get through to the "opened up" game that was claimed to exist. I went from a lifeless story to a boring grind with people AFK in Vanguard Tiger and getting a better chance at legendary loot in a cave. Joy.

I'm glad loot isn't like Borerlands/diablo, in those games even high level loot is completely common and I'm never excited when it drops, the loot is entirely disposable.
But in diablo you can always find something better. And if you do you are motivated to grind more, because you were properly rewarded.

Eh, I hate MMOs and probably wouldn't have purchased it.

Ditto. You end up with that top down Diablo III thing = little to no connection to the loot for me, once again.

I don't know, maybe I shouldn't have rolled a Demon Hunter first but I really have no interest in returning to that game. Between that and Destiny it's definitely the one I regret purchasing, but I know it's supposed to be so good that maybe someday I'll be able to give it the time and focus it deserves.

Eh. That's what the Engrams are for, right? Providing a reason why your enemies are dropping loot besides "they're secretly pinatas." They made the narrative "out," and then refused to use it.

I feel the Engrams are just a better way of doing "corpse loot sparkle" for an FPS game. It keeps the game moving instead of you having to click through every corpse picking stuff up.

Raidiance is awesome in both PvP and PvE. Yeah, you lose nova bomb, but you are able to spam grenades. Because of this, you are able to basically spam numerous grenades that may as well be nova bombs. That's if you go with Solar grenades.

I personally go with sticky grenades in PvP. That + long lasting radiance + overshield you get when you Scorch someone = a monstrosity of a killing spree.

So basically, Sunsinger gives Warlocks a defensive boost and a way to one-shot multiple people, as well as a way to control the train with Solar grenades.

Can you only spam grenades during your super or is there another way to trigger it? I need to look at the full tree when I get a chance. I'm trying to finish maxing Void quick so I can start pouring in my xp from bounties and strike completions into Sungsinger. I'm assuming you scorch people with grenades? constant overshield sounds nice

Is Dr. nope terrible? Or does it need upgrades to become decent in pve?

Is 27 too low for nightfall guy above me?

So all legendary armour items will get to 30 light with all upgrades? I'm worried that only some do and I need to find something different. Don't want to use all my shards on something that won't get me to level 30.

No you either need the full legendary raid set or 3 pieces and an exotic mixed in.

Raid armor maxes out at 30 light while normal legendary stuff from the various vendors caps out at 27.

Is Dr. nope terrible? Or does it need upgrades to become decent in pve?

It's terrible. Dismantle it for materials.

If it didn't then sellers would be useless, and earning marks and rep (and by extension, bounties) would be pointless.

I'd rather have loot drops be stingy and earning viable rather than one or the other have no place in the game.

It's currently bad as far as I'm concerned. The loot drops are just terrible and the way it's handled is worse. Exotics which could have been earned through strikes or something are instead handed out randomly in the crucible, oftentimes to people that performed poorly or super rarely via engrams that rarely even give their own rarity item. Or they're bought for a special currency with only a couple options every week.

Marks have their place, and they would even if the loot system was a bit more generous with legendaries. You'd be able to spend them for the slots you're having difficulty filling since even if there was a higher chance of getting a legendary from an engram, you'd still have to get engrams for the particular slot and get the right class.

I think my biggest gripe is the exotics though. I was really hoping stuff like Hawkmoon would come as a somewhat uncommon drop from high level strikes or something, not just be 100% insane RNG and potentially handed out to someone that does nothing in the Crucible. People that actually want to earn these things are screwed and people that did nothing to deserve them get them x.x Performing well doesn't even seem to increase the odds of getting it. So much for earning your cool gear and showing it off.

It honestly amazes me how other than the timelocked ones, strikes aren't even worth stepping foot into if you're capped on marks and already into legendaries. They just sit there. Dungeons with no purpose because they can't give actual good loot... not even rarely... just blues... I can't really count legendary engrams from random drops since you can get that anywhere else more efficiently.

The way loot was handled, especially when compared to how they made it sound, is the one real complaint I have about Destiny. "No trading because we want you to earn your gear and show it off" didn't even remotely translate to "Yeah random people that do horribly in PvP can be handed the highest tier weapons in the game" in my mind.

I like the core gameplay, I enjoy the game, and I really like the raid. But when the most efficient way for me to try to get an exotic weapon may be to basically AFK in the Crucible, something's wrong.

Edit: I have no idea why this is bugging me so much more today than normal lol. It may just be because I want to actually get a nice exotic and find it absurd that the only methods afforded to me are basically jack around in the Crucible, wait for timelocked strikes or wait for Xur and hope he has something good x.x I would absolutely love to be running Vanguard Tiger and hoping for something cool, but not even a legendary will show up on those reward screens so what's the point?

I've gotten maybe 3 or 4 randomly out of 50+ public events. I think you are probably better off doing the 1 public event and then finding a decent farm spot and hoping for legendaries / blues to DE.

It's only during the super. This is because the cooldown is so small.

The overshield isn't constant, but I guess if you put points into Strength, you could possibly get it to that point. I invest in Intelligence and Discipline. My Raidiance form can last a while, and I have grenades for days.

It saved us twice on the nightfall strike but i didnt find it as useful on the raid.

But in diablo you can always find something better. And if you do you are motivated to grind more, because you were properly rewarded.

How are you motivated though? I'm asking because it never worked for me. How would I be motivated to get a line of green arrows and a tiny crossbow I can hardly see. That can make it faster to kill skeletons? That were already fast to kill?

Say what you will about Destiny's many problems, but kitting out the gear screens like damn Forza Motorsport is probably the biggest reason I keep playing this game. The gear is showcased like a true, treasured reward, it doesn't just sit in some Geiger-rip-off flourished brown circle with some snoozer compounded name in Helvetica Light (Destiny teaches us: ALWAYS HELVETICA BOLD.)

Is it sad that I grab my vita, remote play the loot cave and just leave it while i go play something else? yes thats what this game has turned into for me.

okay, hadn't thought of doing that before. But yeah, that's happening right now.

What a joke this game is. Still like it a lot though.

Yep. If I'm there I'll hang out and empty my ammo a couple times. It's a godsend to get weapon parts and sapphire wire (hunter).

Ok, I lied a little. I did spend the entire browns game there on my Vita and ended up with a legendary helmet. The Vita finally earned its keep!

Right on, thanks.

Haha yeah I tell myself "just" 65 to make to sound less depressing.

I got lucky as hell with the raid gear. I had bought an exotic helm before, and a set of gauntlets, chest, and legs dropped during my playthrough. Got a sweet AR (Atheon's Epilogue) from the final boss drop too. Also got a shitty Titan Mark to balance it out a little.

Am I correct that all Raid gear can be upgraded to 30 light? Doesn't have to be from "hard" mode or anything?

I agree, it can be fun. Especially because Bungie put in these bullshit artificial barriers to leveling and buying Legendary gear. Why is there a cap on bounties and Vanguard Marks, etc.? It's simply an artificial way to get people coming back the next day/week. So, the alternative is to hang out at the cave and get tons of loot.

Well every half hour with the public events can disrupt the flow lol

Yeah I pretty much set a timer for that lol. It just really bothers me I want enjoy the game but when I can't get anything better than what i currently have whats the point? The Crucible, now that's something I enjoy just wish loot dropped better, maybe I am spoiled because of Diablo 3.

I received quite a few at first but after that initial bunch, I've received 0.
