It's contentious because I see a lot of people complaining about the loot in this game, but it's always about how much drops suck.
There's this backlash against Destiny's end-game being broken because the loot is broken or the content is boring. The end-game is definitely broken, but only because it doesn't explain well enough how to play. Instead you get people playing it like a different game and being frustrated it's not behaving how they expect/want.
I had 13 strange coins from playing the game normally, so I bought an exotic helm. I manged to get ~70 vanguard marks per week so far, so I bought 2 legendary armor pieces. I had a blue drop turn into legendary boots. So my armor is exclusively purple & yellow. Since i'm not farming the treasure cave I'm getting the planetary mats I need to level up my legendary gear.
And because I'm not farming the treasure cave, I'm doing bounties. The bounties gave me an exotic pulse rifle and got my Vanguard rank up to 3, so I got a free legendary auto-rifle. No RNG, no decrypt. Just here ya go, guardian.
The systems really work together and encourage a variety of play and I always know what I need to do to get my next piece of armor.
This is a fair point. But reducing the whole of Destiny to a slot machine of treasure cave shooting seems like it's doing the game a tremendous disservice.
Don't blame the players, blame the game. The whole game should not have the exact same RNG on every enemy. The drop rate should scale to the enemy level, period. If they did that, they wouldn't have to nerf the Cryptarch.
