i hope they patch out the cave, i need some drama

All I need is some time to farm helium filaments on the Moon for the upgrade to 26. It has served its purpose for me.

I knew it. A drinking game. That means you're in college and mommy and daddy are the source of the disposable income! That makes your drivel so much more understandable. Continue on your vacation, the real world awaits.

this guy

I'd be surprised if they patch the Cave, there will be other spots for people to discover, just like in any MMO

Eh, if they had done loot right then grays wouldn't drop a damn thing and you'd actually have a reasonable expectation of good loot from legendary engrams, and a decent chance of finding them in strikes. Yes you can grind rep to get legendaries, but you could grind rep/pvp in WoW to get legendaries too. Fuck, you could also just plain buy them from the auction house or craft them.

Edit: For the record, none of my gear came from farming.

The Cryptarch has went from an incompetent Engram decrypter to a straight troll.

Me: Oh sweet I got an exotic out of a purple engram! My second Exotic after 45 hours. Yay!

Wait a minute..... What the fuck.........

The same Rocket Launcher are you serious. That is some calculating bullshit right there. I actually respect the commitment to find new ways to create despair.

Treasure Cave will be patched by tomorrow, I'm almost positive. Enjoy it tonight while you can guys.

The only reason it's the most well known is because everyone can see you doing it as they run through the patrol area, and you can get a shitload of bounty and patrols completed while doing it. There are at least two almost as good spots that are known, and most likely if they patch those, there will be more found elsewhere. I doubt all spawn points have been scrutinized for their farmablity yet.

There will be a mass exodus if they patch out the loot cave.

The game is not good enough and does not have enough content to keep people. The loot cave allows people to rank up to play the tiny bit of "additional" higher rank content.

They should focus on fixing the game first. Make the loot system work properly, add in trading with friends, and do something about the abysmal repetitiveness of everything.

There will be no "mass exodus". The vast majority of Destiny players have no idea what the loot cave is and most likely still have yet to hit Level 20. Perspective. Majority of gamers are not like Gaffers.

Haha is it terrible that I thought the same thing? I'm over and done with the cave. They can nerf it to hell.

No. If you spend hours (say two) there, you WILL get something nice. In a half hour you will most likely get at least one purple, and enough blues to level the cryptarch which will get you a purple gift. At least half the time I'll get something good from either the purple from the cave, or the gift. So that's on average at least one good thing per hour.
"Good thing?" You mean a purple engram, yes? These have a ~66% chance of being a blue item, and for armor items succeeding that roll, a 66% chance of not being for your class. Ruling out class item engrams of course. And if you're looking for light progression you need to rule out weapon engrams as well. It seems like it's a fine option for people with good luck but pretty dangerous to describe as any kind of guarantee.

RNG itself makes it likely- really, almost ensures- that for everyone who receives two useful upgrades from the cave's engrams drops in an hour of farming, another person out there over two hours has received none. I don't like to participate in any system where that's a possibility unless absolutely forced to, and in Destiny I rather fundamentally am not.

I'd be curious to know how they'll do it. Only thing I can think of is to make it so level appropriate foes drop the loot. Level vs level 20 softcap, anyways.

All they would need to do is change the respawn time to something like 1 minute. That would essentially kill it. That said, I think Bungie secretly likes the cave and will keep it in.

Break that shit down for rare upgrade materials...I'd much rather get a dup exotic than a green, or even blue.

"Wow. What a cool weapon. What's the story behind that one?"

"I shot at random spawns from a Russian cave for 2 hours and it dropped. I call it Spawnski. Your Exotic is pretty cool too, how did you get it?"

"Oh, I bought it from the vendor this Friday, just like everyone else who plays my class. I wish I could trade it to you but the story is so special on this item that I just can't part with it."
-----

Dat incredible weapon-storytelling.

I play the game daily now for about an hour or so. Small talk with a couple of friends about our day while doing the daily, a little bit of patrol, maybe one strike and the weekly strike once a week. Makes it more enjoyable, I burned out on the game earlier. The game will probably get buried when my October and November purchases arrive though. Sorry Bungie, I guess I will be back full time in December.

Yeah but with the earth spot, you don't have to die or anything. You literally can sit there and let other people kill enemies for you while you get drops. At least Nexus and Temple of Crota you have to die over and over to get the drops.

I hit level 19 today and I still haven't gotten around to going to the loot cave yet :( I hope it doesn't go yet, but if it does I am sure someone will come up with something.

I'd love to see strike bosses bursting into shiny engrams. Killing them would be much more enjoyable.

About the farming i think thrash mobs should drop thrash loot. And strikes, patrol missions, story should be the way to get better equipment.

They've already "fixed" one of the loot farm areas

I doubt people are going to stop playing because a place where they can stand there and shoot while not aiming is going to be patched

Honestly, the loot system is fine, ya'll should be focusing on earning vanguard marks and crucible marks for gear

saying this over and over doesn't make it true lol

im pretty sure their going to patch in the new content we get this week

so im assuming some type of patch is coming

Hmm, I thought it was server side.

Hahah, that is some straight up trolling.

Are you sure about that? Every time I pass by that area there is a shooting gallery of 5 guys firing away at it. Unless everyone I come across are gaffers, I'm pretty sure it's common knowledge to most folks by now. I can't imagine what Bungie's heat maps must look like lol.

I keep seeing this people not liking bigger maps it seems. I much rather play on them then run into a full team of shotty's and fusion rifles on tiny maps.

I don't mind first light too much but once only then move on, having the game load that map four times back to back, it should have a cooldown.

I'm guessing you have never played an MMO before

Most MMO's have guaranteed drops for things. You beat this boss and one of these 3 items has a 100% chance to drop. The idea of consistently rewarding players for accomplishing something challenging isn't some casual, crap system. It's basic common sense in modern game design based on simple psychological ideas. If someone feels rewarded, they will want to repeat that process. It's the very reason the loot cave is popular.

And the repetition of the grind in MMO's is seriously helped by the proper social aspects in those games, like real chat, guilds, etc. Things that Destiny can't use to distract you from the more mundane parts in its current state.

Constantly trying to use the excuse of "It's just like MMO's" doesn't work when those MMO's do the things better than what Destiny has in place.

I mean, you have people comparing the current state of loot/grinding in Destiny in 2014 to the launch of WoW in 2004 and saying "Can't believe people are complaining about Destiny!". There's a reason WoW isn't like that anymore! There's a reason that the systems in the game evolved over the course of 10 years with the knowledge of how people played the game and how it could be improved, in addition to overall improvements in design sense as game development matured. Having to compare Destiny to the WoW launch to make it look favorable should be a big fucking tell that it isn't in a great place!

Even if they are initially why would they be forever? They've already said Destiny is a 10 year IP. MMOs are never finished, they're always adding new stuff. Final Fantasy XI, for example, has probably 10x the amount of content now as it did at launch. Not an exaggeration either, literally 10x. WoW is the same. People are looking at Destiny 2 weeks after launch and saying "this game doesn't have enough content". I need the Jackie Chan gif, that's how insane that kind of comment sounds. Why would they just stop and say "ok you guys are good for the next 10 years now"? Or artificially limit themselves to saying "ok for the next 10 years we can only have new content on the existing planets"? Makes no sense.

The only issue I see with comparing Destiny to an MMO in regards to content is that Activision / Bungie has already made it clear that you will be paying for the additional content much earlier then you would be with a normal MMO.

When you buy WoW or an expansion pack, you know you're getting roughly a year of updates and content. With Destiny, they made it clear that you will need to pay for new content as soon as December and before the game was even released. That's fine if the game world was as large as people expected, but based on the brevity of the story and the current state of the end game, making people pay for the 2 expansion packs seems questionable.

When comparing to WoW or FFXI, the 2 upcoming expansions would have just been considered free content patches. However, at this point you're comparing a one-time purchase console game to a subscription-based MMO which is tricky. Tthen you look at something like Guild Wars 2 which doesn't have a fee and has had a ton of free content patches, but is fueled by micro-transactions.

Any way you look at it, comparing Destiny to other games in the genre is not easy.

Seriously. I'll hit level 28 once I upgrade my raid boots and I haven't received one piece of usable gear from an engram.

The loot complaints are absurd.

if you haven't received one piece of usable gear from an engram

then maybe the loot system is kinda busted

lol

Haha is it terrible that I thought the same thing? I'm over and done with the cave. They can nerf it to hell.

I'll be dressed to the nines and ready to hang out in the raid club with the cool kids who shoot at bullet sponge bosses for loot rather the weird kids who smoke behind the school and shoot at trash mobs for loot.

Social mobility, son.

Silver lining and all that, but at least you can vault that dupe launcher for another character regardless of class should you decide to make one. I'm a Hunter and all the non-Hunter legendaries I've picked up are for Warlocks so I feel kind of compelled to go Space Bro for my next character even though I wanted to try out the Titan Defender :\

Ok, I betcha that you have some intangible idea that the loot system is "bad" or "broken"

No Instant Gratification =/= bad loot system

uh no

trash mobs dropping shit that level 24 bosses don't is a great identifier of a bad loot system

pretending it isn't bad does nothing but make people feel better. it is what it is. admitting its trash and that it must be actively worked around by using a gimped and poorly thought out vendor system is just being honest

Again, I don't know what is so tough to understand. You are shooting into a cave. How is that fun? You spent $60 to do so.

I am fine with farming by doing PEs or dailies or weeklies. But literally just standing in front of a cave and mindlessly hitting R2? And in some cases not even doing that? Yeah, ok. Well, have fun.

I'm not the one not understanding. The game is the game. How is PvP fun? How are Strikes fun? Do you question and criticize those aspects of the game? Different people find different things fun. Some people find more than one thing fun. Some people even like a variety of things! Shocking, I know. You are fine with the things you personally enjoy, and apparently NOT fine with things you don't. I understand that very well. You don't seem to.

I spent way more than $60 on the game, by the way. I have a Ghost Edition.

There's no piece of "unusable" gear in the game, unless you found a way to just generate Plasteel buy shooting Fallen.

I have 170 plasteel and I never farmed once, Plasteel is worthless.

Where do I get the Shingen-E from?

RNGeusus. You might get lucky and find one in the shop. Keep an eye out for the Silvered Hushwind, it's pretty much a slightly tweeked Shingen, or the Cydonia, just as good.

Crazy theory: the legendary engrams don't decrypt to legendaries precisely because Bungie knows they can't stop all of these exploits and they don't want people getting tons of legs per hour.
