Xbox One price cut by £20 in the UK Now £329.99 - even White Sunset Overdrive bundle

Thinking back to 1999, Xbox One's life is reminding me a lot of the Dreamcast. Not saying Xbox One will meet the same fate because Microsoft will keep throwing money at it to keep it afloat. Just the price drops, free games, all the stuff they are trying to stimulate sales reminds me of the DC days.

I'm thinking they will drop the price by $25 - 50 in the US for the holidays. Bundling games alone does not seem to be cutting it.

^ See. This is what I was talking about. Whilst not on PS4-levels, the XBO is gaining popularity here.
Yeah but you said creeping up - as in closing the gap. The gap has been constantly growing in UK and even when the XB1 saw a boost the PS4 saw a bigger one and outsold it 2 to 1 hence making the gap grow even faster.

To creep up the XB1 has to start outselling the PS4: anything else is simply an increase or decrease in the rate of the gap growing.

The XB1 can sell okay and still be outsold you know, decent sales don't automatically translate to narrow the PS 4s lead and to be blunt they aren't.

Every NPD shows PS4 increasing gap and all signs from UK PR indicate same thing.

All that can be said is the gap is narrowest and growing the slowest in US. Next is UK where gap is growing more quickly then outside those all indications is gap is growing rapidly.

Sorry to be so pedantic but there has been zero gap closing or creeping up anywhere so far.

The XBO is gaining interest over here quite quickly. Obviously not as popular as PS4 right now, but I don't think it will be long before it gains traction from price drops and a good Q4 exclusive line-up. I don't think it will ever catch up. But it will close the gap enough for Sony to take notice. Mark my words.

This time next year I will have you eating humble pie out of my hand.

If the gap is not narrowing, or remaining the same, then the gap is getting wider. You understand that, right?

I think Microsoft are close to fearing the worst which is Sony running away with it and cementing a significant mind share, particularly online with plus subscriptions. When that happens, a major price cut might not bring about a rousing return for Xbox One. Microsoft losing out on sales and online revenue wouldn't go down well. They have to figure out a way to compete and overtake. Will £20 off help, Forza Horizon 2, Halo MCC ? If not, why not? They need to turn it around somehow, will it be games, slim console, major price reduction, free online gaming?

This will basically mirror my nov/dec npd predictions so...

PS4 - 750k
XB1 - 1.1m

PS4 - 1.2m
XB1 - 1.5m

Massive bump for COD and Halo gives November to Xbox. Holiday bundle keeps them ahead in December. The gap will still be over 100k.

This is assuming prices stay the same.
Like the bump you were so sure that Xbox is gonna get from Madden in spite of Aquamarine and Abdiel telling you otherwise?

Good to see MS so aggressive in the face of a growingly complacent and arrogant Sony.

The nerve of them to refer to a third party title as first party. Do their crimes know no bounds?

Get 'em, MS. Get 'em for the working guy.

Problem they have is upsetting the early adopters - they will expect some compensation so it's like a double blow.

This just seems like they are putting all eggs into their Halo basket.

I agree that's a legit concern which they should have been cognizant of, but I really don't think MS has ever cared the slightest after they chose to unbundle Kinect instead of simply dropping the price of the system.

Wow.

Please take 5 minutes look at the financials of Sony and then MS and see if you draw the same conclusion.

I imagine they mean desperate to sell consoles, which clearly, given the myriad of cuts, incentives, reversal of policies etc, they very much are.

Desperate for money? Lol no, they can set fire to it all day long, and still never burn more than the interest they make.

It did get a bump.

And are you going to compare Madden to COD and Halo?
That's not what I mean and you know it. You were so sure that Xbox's bump was gonna win August despite Aquamarine and Abdiel telling you otherwise.

All I'm saying, you might want to keep your expectations in check.

OK... thanks I guess?

I'll stick with those numbers.

Also just got an email from Microsoft UK saying that I'd get 50,000 reward points for buying an Xbox One. Said it was only valid for the people who'd received the email though.

50k reward points is about £35 to spend in the Xbox Store, right?

But then I'll have had a piece of delicious pie paid for by you, and you'll have a pair of hands covered in pie crumbs and my spit.

Got that too! already have the Sunset Overdrive bundle ordered and paid for at £309.97 and with thee credits it's £33.50 of free spending money which almost means that the bundle has only cost me £276.47 which I'm really happy with!!

Wow that seems like a good deal.
Of course I get no e-mail :(

I think it goes by your local currency. It would be $50 in the states. Not sure about the UK though.

Just to quote myself, looking at the email it sates only people in the UK & USA are being sent those emails.

Now that would be amazing, id consider picking one up if that happened.

But i remember a GT bonus round where Pachter talked about when he met up with some MS suits where he was advising them on how to help move more units. And when he suggested that they throw in a 1 year free sub to Live, the guys at MS were baffled by the suggestion, with an attitude like "why the hell would we do something crazy like that?" which in turn baffled Pachter at such ignorance from MS.

So i dont see it happening, but it would be a megaton.

It has already happened! Pretty soon it will be 2:1 or maybe more, the rest will just be an avalanche as people go where their friends are.

An awful reveal coupled with a weakarse system, fucked them before the console even launched.... They know it already.

They just want to try and get to 20 or 30 mil before they launch another system.

This gen will be one massive dryhump for Microsoft.

Xbone only gamer saying this aswell

Yeah, I remember that. It was something along the lines of "why the hell would we do that, they will buy it anyway"

I don't think MS will give it up, probably the real cash cow at Xbox. Sony by following have reaped the rewards as well as putting a big hole in the Xbox dingy. Reap what you sow I guess.

haha! those working mans graphics are slowly picking up momentum.....The hard working men and women of the world are growing fonder of the tank shaped beta max player

The XBO is gaining interest over here

You might be right, more and more I saw thread like lttp xbox one, how satisfy for the console, better OS, great holiday lineup,
it's just pre season, only the real battle ground matter, etc etc
Maybe all they need is win one or two biggest month at largest margin to overcome full year of minor lost battle.

Winter is coming.

Yea, $1bn in losses dude. That's how much they've lost. When that happens, you don't go on to interfere with a profitable division which will then lose you more money in the process.

So? $2.1bn predicted this year. That doesn't change your comment being wrong also funny that you completely ignore the second part of the post.

Do you honestly believe those numbers are insurmountable?

Overtime maybe?Just holiday season as per Hindle post yes. Given that XB1 is unlikely to outsell PS4 in both Nov/Dec and even if it does it wouldn't be to a significant degree to offset the current ratio which will again likely be in PS4 favour from the beginning of next year.

They might in the US and UK, where the Xbox is slowly creeping up on them.

Elaborate on your definition of "creeping up"? Reducing the amount you're being outpaced is NOT the same thing as creeping up... it's still quite the opposite. You're losing ground slower.

Think of it this way. If we're racing and I'm in a car driving 180mph and you're doing 60mph, I'm outpacing you by going 3 miles in the amount of time it takes you to go 1 mile. If you eventually increase your speed to 120mph, you've improved your speed by 100% but you're not slowly creeping up on me, I'm still going 3 miles in the same amount of time that you're now only going 2 miles. I'm still pulling away from you, just not as quickly as before. Even if you reach finally reach my speed of 180mph... all that distance further than you that I traveled up to that point is still between us. You've matched my pace, but I'm a LONG way ahead of you. In order to catch me, you need to drive much faster than me for a long time.

So by "slowly creeping up", I think you're a bit off. I know vgfartz isn't an iron-clad source for accurate numbers, but for US+Europe they're reporting PS4 at 8.35M whereas XBOne is at 4.84M.

Also got that bundle preordered, but it says "Between 22 September and 6 October" so I don't think it applies for this bundle.

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2011/07/29/5-controversial-console-price-cuts

Then it dropped even further when the Gamecube was announced at a launch price of £149.99 (IIRC. It may have been a tenner give or take) so MS dropped the price to that, so Nintendo dropped the GC price to £129.99 so we had to ring every pre-order to tell them and ask if they wanted an extra controller or game with the money saved. Fucking telesales in a retail store.
I got two free controllers and PGR/Munch's Oddysee were also game options.

The offer for the 50k points ends Oct 6th, the sunset bundle is out on the 31st of Oct?

Xbox One is going to outsell PS4 by 650k this holiday despite being outsold all year, at a 2:1 ratio in certain months? Well alright.

Relevant? 2 friends of mine just received an offer from MS in their email.

50,000 Xbox Live points if they buy a One and sign in before October 6th.
