The Queen missions aren't new then...what's the Epic modifier do? I really like the idea of those Halo style modifiers, excited to see these coming down the pipe even if it's not new content.

Yeah, I think breaking down the queens junk to upgrade shards will help us all out. I'm very close to level 28.

But other than that I think everyone needs legendary and exotic weapons. Blues just don't really cut it even if they're fully upgraded.

Tell me about it! I've got two damn legendary scout rifles that are basically useless in the final stages of the raid, no way I want to use a medium-long range weapon against charging minotaurs. I've got a slightly better Shingen now, but hopefully tomorrow I'll have enough vanguard rep to at least buy a legendary AR. Any one would do right now.

Sounds good, i'll be available all evenings this week EST. I don't even know who you are though, lol. I don't remember a comet in our group.

Jarek23. Just add me next time you jump on PSN.

I'm ScrewAttack_, the unwillingly silent ;p At least I move out soon so I can use my mic past 10pm *sigh*. I'll add you when I get on in the morning bud.

Best spinmetal farming route?

Also is this easy legendary stuff just about queens bounties?

Edit Also do the queens missions ever give weapons?

I'm pretty sure it only can give a chest or headpiece, atleast today.

Or in my experience, it can give a chest to you 6 times in a row when you don't want it.

Has anyone bought a sparrow from vanguard rank 3 yet? Is it worth it?
Are you completely geared out with everything that you want? That's a pure luxury purchase, no way it's "worth it" compared to the other things you can buy with marks.

It's a bit on the brutal side. In Epic. you NEED to take down shields with the right element; firing against shields without doing so does barely any damage at all. Enemies are also pretty smart and will use cover to recharge their shields, turtle behind other less important mobs, press for a kill, etc.

Er, sorry, is this you telling me not to participate on that topic? :-/
?????????

Not what I said at all.

I responded to someone else and you insert yourself like I directly called out - so pardon me if I'm a little confused

not sure what someone else misunderstanding something has to do with you at all. again. confuse.

do we know what the patch notes are?

Okay, this is lame. The Queen's shit is just a random level 24 mission? This is what Bungie hypes up? :|

Keep sending to me Venus though. :P

This is fucking comedic. A week of whining about the difficulty of getting legendaries, Bungie hands them out, whining about the ease of earning legendaries and requesting a higher tier to grind towards.

The definition of cannot win.

Also that Legendary gear that's 'only a few points better in stats' lets you get to level 30, which is the level of the hard raid, and if you've done any post 20 content, you know how much it sucks to be under leveled against pve mobs. It will also matter very slightly in iron banner, for those who want every advantage they can get, though its less of an issue there.

More critically, there are mods on the raid gear you cannot find elsewhere currently. I'm packing a Solar primary weapon. And it's Solar Burn week. And Epic week. Shanks, Wizards, Cabal, and every poor bastard in the Nightfall, Weekly, or Queen mission with Solar Burn active fear me.

tldr: Queen bounties own.

Seems like you're taking advantage of the bandage work Bungie put in place. I would be too, but I doubt I'd be so oblivious to the issues that this event brings up.

Despite raid armor getting folks up to level 30, which does prep them for Heroic VoG, this reveals legendary gear shouldn't be seen as exclusive, rare, and difficult to obtain. Before this event, I definitely wouldn't say obtaining legendaries was fair in either relying on RNG or getting rep and marks on a weekly basis. But now, because legendaries seem to be common now, what gives? What happened to the notion of earning purples? If anything, the event should have given players a week to get exclusive legendary gear, but not in the numbers I'm seeing in this thread.

On top of the game's current state and to add more to my opinion that Bungie doesn't know what they're doing, raiders are still kind of left high and dry due to the fact the raid gear, despite having better stats, is still in the same category of legendary the ones you get from the legendary engrams or this Queen event.

If anything, I'm seeing the gear from the Queen event as 'intro-to-raiding' gear. Kind of like how The Old Republic does when someone hit 55 for the first time, and then when they raid, they get drastically better gear as drops. If Bungie treats it this way, and as you say, they are, then perhaps things will be cool.

You gotta admit the loot and gear system is wonky. First it's piss hard and obnoxious to get a legendary, and now we have this event that makes it easier while being temporary. If anything, there should be a quest line getting people legendary gear that's weaker than what you get in a raid. This will get them ready for VoG as far as levels go.

As it stands, VoG is a true test of skill with people in their current levels, so I don't see people blazing through it one-shotting every enemy regardless of being level 26+.

I also guess that my whole argument of Bungie needing to do better hinges on what kind of drops Heroic VoG has.

Yeah, I don't need any of the legendary gear. If I bought any, it'd be to dismantle it for mats.

Hey. We're looking for a few experienced raiders for doing the raid start to finish (if time permits). Any level 27+ is welcome (we're 28). Let's get some of that raid loot! We want to start in 15/20 minutes.

Give the scout rifle a try. I hated it at first when I got it as my legendary but once I got used to it and learned to properly aim at all the right spots it deals great damage.

Didn't mean to imply you were calling me out at all, sorry. I chose the wrong words. I was just saying I think I have a decent impression of the systems in place here and don't see really much of anything but a positive from the queen's bounties; i.e., I don't understand the issue.

I totally get the criticisms of it not being actually "new content" and reusing old missions/requiring you to watch cutscenes, but in terms of gameplay/progression impact it seems to be a positive event all around.

Getting stuck at the startup load screen.. is this because of the patch?

Today has been amazing so far for me. SUROS off a legendary engram which I found at the postmaster and the 4 golden shot hunter helm from nightfall. SO HAPPY

A legendary engram, for the first time, gave me legendary gear. I got it last night doing (what was the) previous week's heroic strike solo (didn't put anyone else into it for some reason). Gauntlets that are 229 defense, same as the ones I already bought from Dead Orbit. What do you get for discarding those? Should I level them up all the way before ditching them?

So each Queen's bounty unlocks the ability to do a Queen's Wrath modified mission, correct?

And then there's only a Queen's Guard mask and chest piece, no arm, boot, and class items?

Again. Missing the point. Its nice that everyone has their stuff now - but at the same time, its just made the entire progression system that bungie laid out even more of a clusterfuck.

They make it so performance has nothing to do with drops
They make it level 5 goons essentially more valuable than level 24 strike bosses
They make rep grinding a huge hurdle - then go and cap the currency tied to each rep
Then gate post-20 gameplay based on itemization entirely

Then they turn around and give away 1 legendary per bounty?

I'm not upset that people are getting what they want. I'm upset that Bungie is either making it up as they go or just don't give a fuck. None of it makes sense at all.

If you're talking about pvp performance, that would be disastrous for shitty players. Rewarding players who already do well in pvp with more loot would be an awful experience for bad players in pvp.

In pve they *do* reward performance. Nightfall Strikes and the Raid give goodies.

Rep grinding is not a huge hurdle, that's been debunked repeatedly. It's fast and easy with a split farming fireteam, and you get a big fat chunk of rep every week from the weekly strike and nightfall.

They intentionally capped rare progression at 24 which is what everyone hits from farming 24 strikes (or engrams!) from rares, and conveniently, a pair of legendaries will push those players right to 26 and the raid.

I'm not posting the rep/mark math for the umpteenth time, it's not even remotely a huge grind to cap marks, raise rep, or gear to 26 in a reasonable amount of time if you go about it the right way.

The biggest gate on progression in the game right now is ascendant materials, not armor, and even that is only really relevant if you give a shit about the hard mode raid, reaching 28 for all weekly content is totally doable without crazy shard farming.

If Bungie fucked up anywhere, it was not explaining all the systems they have in place to gear up, the idiocy of the purple legendary engrams (perception, not contents), and players expectations from 'a loot game' (or whatever).

when i logged on after being kicked for the patch i got an item pop up that said "Queen's Guard's Grips" or something, so i guess there is arm/leg armor. I tried to save video of it but apparently it wasn't quite working there.

Interesting. So I should be saving decent guns with other damage types just in case I hit a mission where I really need that damage type.

before anyone asks, cave still works.

On a broader scope of the game, this is absolutely true. While I think the reasoning behind some of these features, such as being able to get legendaries off anything on Old Earth, is for easy co-op and giving incentive to group with lowbies, I have to go with what's said earlier - was it really hard to get legendaries with a fuck-all system like the one implemented now?

The farming cave is Destiny's loot system in its purest form.

Stuck at level 24, can't seem to grab a purple at all. It's frustrating not being able to attempt the raid. Which is easier to farm rep for-- Vanguard or Crucible? Both are currently at level 1 for me and I'd like to just purchase better gear at this point.

Vanguard maybe. The weekly strike (not nightfall) should give you 150 rep. Then do as many bounties as you can. That should get you another 200/250 rep right there. It's 2000rep to go from rank 1 to 2.

Great post. Something went wrong in the design phase of this game, in several areas, OR there were some major changes halfway through and stuff was cut/changed.

I never considered it either difficult or obnoxious to get a legendary :-/ I have 6; every armor slot and a weapon, and I earned all of them.

however, a lot of people were neither progressing as quickly as they wished to nor happy with earning marks to buy their gear nor having good luck with RNG/engrams. this event allows for a basic couple of "welfare" legendaries for a bit of effort.

Give the scout rifle a try. I hated it at first when I got it as my legendary but once I got used to it and learned to properly aim at all the right spots it deals great damage.

For sure. I used a scout rifle all through the beta and it'll definitely be useful at points, but minotaurs and praetorians are unpredictable and a little panic inducing when they get close. Doesn't help they don't really have a critical hit spot like other Vex, just the rage mode spot.

But then I usually whip out an FR or machine gun when those buggers come tearing out of the spawn points.

Y'know what?

If they seriously removed the majors to stop glimmer farming, but used their reasoning as reduced difficulty, it's....offensive.

Be honest. Blizzard would tell me that they were removing it due to "people were acquiring loot at a rate faster than had been designed for / anticipated".

The difficulty part is nonsense, especially as when I play I have like 5 different difficulties I can choose from.

It also makes me worry about later changes / the planning for this game if they're already masking their reasoning.

Two amazing things in one post, I salute you good sir.

Also, I am pissed I missed the excellent Top Gun reference within the Top Gun reference.

Holy shit I think Bungie just fixed the cave. I was sitting there farming it waiting for the maintenance to happen before I try to do anything I care about and all of a sudden a couple dozen chosen knights and a dozen or so chosen wizards, along with a massive crowd of trash mobs just started pouring out of every spawn door in the area. It was absolute madness. That was the most intense fight I can imagine having with a bunch of level 7 AIs lol

Haha, I've seen that a few times last weekend. It gets absolutely crazy. The cave might still be fine, though.

The farming cave is Destiny's loot system in its purest form.

I also think stuff like the cave is spawned out of them making it so that endgame isn't solely focused on Mars thanks to the way the game progresses and the lack of any variable Patrol instances on higher levels. But going this route completely diminishes the value of actually fighting harder enemies when a level 2 grey enemy you drop like nothing can drop whatever you need.

This is almost exactly the purpose it serves. a helm and chest will get you to 26.

I would be incredibly surprised if the drops don't change in later days, making it possible to fully deck out in the Queen gear.

Nah, it's just a sort of public event without being a public event. Wherever there are two factions fighting, about once an hour a big battle starts between them.

Nah that happens after a while. It's probably the best part of farming the cave :D
